Main A Tale Of Five Students A Charles Dickens Collection

Charles Dickens (7 February 1812 – 9 June 1870) was an English writer and one of the most popular novelists of the Victorian era. His creation of vivid, memorable characters such as Ebenezer Scrooge, Fagin, and David Copperfield has endeared him to countless readers and contributed to his writings' timelessness and success. Since their initial publishing, not one of his works have been taken out of print, giving clear evidence to their popularity in well over 150 years of existence.

Dickens used his literature to address various societal flaws, from the imbalance of the social classes to children's rights, an issue which is possibly most noticeable in his depiction of Oliver Twist and Pip from Great Expectations, among other works and themes. He publicly spoke out about these issues many times during his lifetime, using his overwhelming popularity to exact a change for the better. His epitaph read: β€œHe was a sympathiser with the poor, the suffering, and the oppressed; and by his death, one of England's greatest writers is lost to the world.”

A Charles Dickens Collection was created with a mind to gather the writings of Charles Dickens, provide sources to aid in education, and encourage new readers to access and enjoy the wit, wisdom, and entertainment found within his works.

This collection seeks to provide information to individuals with an interest in the author and his accomplishments, as well as the adapted works they have inspired. The sources have been chosen by the group members, based upon their relevance to the overall mission. The collection

does not attempt to be a comprehensive anthology of Charles Dickens' works, but one that seeks simply to pay tribute to the author's extensive achievements and influence in the literary, political, social, and historical realms.

Please explore this wiki, and we hope that you will come to appreciate his works as much as we have.

Our group wanted to find material on Charles Dickens that would complement the collection in James Joyce's library. We noticed that the library lacked relevant numbers of his novels and we wanted to offer the student body, as well as others, access to his work. We wanted to provide an environment for students to read his works not just for study but for fun. We found that there was a larger number of resources on Dickens then we had anticipated and narrowing down our selection was difficult. We used the following resources to find the material we needed;

For Our Print Collection Ebay provided us with cheap secondhand printed material ranging from, novels, speeches, and critical analysis. Bloomsbury Auctions

offered us material on Dickens for our rare and special collections.

Internet Public Library offered ideas for books we wanted in our collection. isbndb.com/- http://isbndb.com/ is an online database for books and explained where we could buy our materials. iBookDB Amazon We inquired at UCD library about the methods they use to order in their stock.

For Our Online Collection Proquest gave us access to critical articles written about his work, which we hope to incorporate into our online collection. JStor introduced us to the online collection Dickens Quarterly which along with material from Proquest will be incorporated into our online collection. LISA ALA IMDb
