INSIDE FRONT COVER BLANK

A Message from the Queen To the illustrious Dr. George E. Cooper, 10th President of SC State University and First Lady Diane Cooper, my fellow Student Government Association Executive officers and guests, it is my pleasure to welcome you to “ A Royal Renaissance: A Celebration of Movement.” This year’s coronation theme was chosen because I wanted to embrace the African American culture. After the great migration, African American’s wanted a new start. The African Americans during this time desired to express themselves through art, music, dance, and literature. The Harlem Renaissance gave birth to some of the greatest authors and musicians. To my fellow Bulldogs, I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for placing your trust in me as the spokeswoman for our beloved University. As your 72nd Miss South Carolina State University, I am continuing the legacy of those queens who came before me and laying the foundation for those who will come after me. I continue to live by the verse, “God did not give me a spirit of fear but the power of love and sound mind.” I hope to continue to be a role model for the young women of our university. To my coronation committee, words can not express how much I appreciate all of you. Without you, none of this would be possible. I do not think there is a great enough gift that I can give you that would truly show how grateful I am to have all of you in my life. You have taken my vision of the Cotton Club and brought it to life. To Ms. Adderson, Where do I begin? From the time I met you, I knew that you would be someone I can count on. You work so hard for the students here at South Carolina State and you are truly an angel. You continue to put others before you, even when you are not feeling well. I know that when I leave this institution, you will be the one that I continue to call on for motherly advice. To all former queens, visiting queens, my royal court and coronation participates, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to celebrate this wonderful day with me. I have formed friendships with all of you and I know that we will continue to grow together. Finally and most importantly, to my family, all of you have been with me since birth. We have had our ups and downs but you continue to support me no matter what. Mom, I love you. I remember when I told you I wanted to run for Miss SC State, and you were so excited because this was something that you wanted to do while you were in school but did not have the courage to go through with it. I am so happy that I had the opportunity to live out your dreams. Dad, even though you are out of the country (in Iraq), I know how proud you are of me. Zoel, my baby sister, I love you to pieces. I am so happy that I have you for a sister and I pray to continue to be a role model in your life. With Bulldog Pride and Honor,

Zuri Stackhouse Zuri Stackhouse Miss South Carolina State University

A Message From The Student Government Association

Greetings South Carolina State Family, I welcome you to the 2009-2010 Coronation and Installation ceremony. This year’s theme is “A Royal Renaissance: “A Celebration of Movement.” This year we will be crowning our own royalty, a true renaissance woman, Ms. Zuri Stackhouse, Miss SC State 2009-2010, and her Royal Court. We will also be installing the 2009 – 2010 Student Government Association Executive Board Officers. Our SGA theme is “Believing in Greatness.” We are encouraging you and the community of Orangeburg to believe in the greatness that we have here at SC State University. I would like for you to show your support as a “Believer” by purchasing your very own student designed “Believer” T-Shirt. The proceeds from these T-Shirts will fund student scholarships. I do not only want you to believe, I want you to be immersed by the pride, the culture, and the creativity that is being displayed tonight by our students. They have been working tirelessly to prepare for this event for your viewing pleasure. This event is simply one of the many great functions that our campus has to offer during this historic Homecoming week. I encourage you to attend the expression of dance and the lyceum which will be held tomorrow in the Smith Hammond Middleton Auditorium. On Saturday, as we take on the Delaware State Hornets in Oliver C. Dawson Stadium, I would like you to come out and show your Bulldog Pride. This coronation and SGA Executive Board Installation have exceptional significance for me as Student Body President. My great uncle, Delano Middleton was one of the three students for which this Memorial Center was named. We would like for you and your family to attend the very first reenactment of the Orangeburg Massacre, entitled “Taking a Stand.” The reenactment will take place February 4th- 6th, 2010, in Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium. The reenactment will feature the Henderson Davis Players. A portion of the ticket sale proceeds will be used to fund the SGA Orangeburg Massacre Social Mobility Scholarships. Once again, I welcome you, and I thank you for your attendance. We look forward to seeing you again on our campus. Sincerely Yours,

Zachary Delano Middleton Zachary Delano Middleton 2009-2010 SC State SGA President FIVE
