In 2005 arose “Orchestrale”. It is the result of a project thought by a group of people who wished to unite their know-how and experiences in the different fields of commercial espresso-coffee machine manufacture, of the restaurant industry and of furniture design. This meeting produced D.I.D. Srl, a company that sets its target on the production of high-quality design and above all Made in Italy “instruments” and special attention to the professional espresso coffee machines. This is because the company believes that coffee is a worldwide experience and a socio-cultural symbol, rather than a consumer product. Therefore thanks to the experience in design and in espresso-coffee machine manufacture of its promoters, D.I.D. has produced its first collection of instruments: “Orchestrale” Instruments for Espresso is a collection of espresso machines rich in contents and poetry, where D.I.D. Design Instruments Development is the sound entrepreneurial reality that constantly upholds this poem.

"Behind the wheel I think of my next stop, the next service centre, the customary break during long trips to have a coffee, hopefully made on an Italian machine. At last I spot a bar and with my mind still far away I open the door and find myself amid a clamour of voices that startle me back to reality. I head for the bar where a small group of persons is quietly, almost ceremoniously, waiting in two orderly queues. I look at the barman and all at once, as if by magic, the noisy bustle turns into an opera of orchestrated sounds, gestures, actions, rhythmic humming and whirring... I’m rapt by this ritual performed by a man, clearly unperturbed by what’s happening around him, who manages to turn the humdrum of daily routine into a melodic work of art. The coffee machine he uses is Italian, with a classic eye-catching design and metal parts that gleam like polished wind instruments. It’s very high-tech but seems to have a soul and like an old violin its notes evoke the sounds of days gone by. I’ll never forget that sound because it made the clamour disappear forever...

a passionate barman… the greatest conductor, a special coffee… the best composition, an Italian coffee machine… the finest orchestra!" M.B.

The Collection

This collection was conceived as a poem inspired by the historical and indivisible bond between the great cultures of coffee and music in the Italian tradition. It wants to pay homage to the music but with a special dedication to the user of our machines, who is seen as a great conductor of orchestra who knows how to get the best from the symphonies, or rather the blends he has chosen.

Orchestrale, thanks to the collaboration with Danes Gourmet Coffee, GBC Australia’s founder, and to its distribution channels, was partner of GBC AustralAsia, providing its coffee machines from 2009 to 2011 in Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea and Australia and involving the best masters of coffee of each of these countries. Finally, the best barista of each event competed for the Grand Barista Title at the AustralAsia final, and he not only got a jackpot but also an Etnica GBC Edition.

Jamie Hersol, Barista trainer says: “The feedback I received from the GBC competitors regarding the Orchestrale machines was extremely positive. They found the Orchestrale machine’s steam wands produced some of the best textured milk they had experienced and that the flow rate of the water coming out of the group head extracts the coffee to its full potential, bringing forth the sweet, smooth and delicate flavours to the coffee.”

The winner Jesse Hyde says: “Once I had worked out that the Orchestrale was able to deliver the same perfect shot with great consistency. And when it comes to texturing great silky milk the Orchestrale provides the right balance of pressure and dry steam to make steaming really easy. The Orchestrale is easy to use and yet complex and responsive enough to meet the expectations and demands of an expert barista.”
