Math tied more closely to school curriculum

Math tied more closely to school curriculum, fewer concepts than ACT(?), tougher than ACT(?)

Ability to interpret graphical Ability to interpret graphical representation of data is key to Science representation of data is important on section Math and Reading sections English section tests mechanics and rhetoric within the context of a passage

Writing section tests mechanics and rhetoric within the context of a passage 12

Why do the Changes Matter? The SAT is going to look a lot like the ACT: • 4 longer sections plus an optional essay • 4 answer choices • No guessing penalty • Less emphasis on vocabulary • Heavier emphasis on graphical representation in all sections • Similar question formats • Similar math content 13

•  The Class of 2017 has to decide which test to take. •  Revised PSAT will take place in October 2015 before the redesigned SAT rolls out in Spring 2016. •  Not much for test prep, particularly since the SAT will remain a timed, multiple choice, high-stakes exam with little connection to curricular practices.

14

REASONS NOT TO TAKE THE NEW SAT in 2016 •  Who Wants to be a Guinea Pig? •  Scores on the March and May Exam Will Not Be Released for more than 6 weeks •  There will not be as much practice material •  We won’t know exactly what the new test looks like until Spring 2016 (4+ samples released this June will help) •  There’s the ACT(which has none of these problems) 15
