Al Fajr International School Hajj –The Fifth And The Last Pillar Of Islam It is obligatory on all Muslims to perform Hajj once in their lifetime if they are able to do so.

The prophet (SAW) said, “Whoever slaughtered the sacrifice before the prayer, he just slaughtered it for himself, and whoever slaughtered it after prayer, he slaughtered it at the right time and followed the tradition of the Muslim.” Narrated Anas Bin Malik

On the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, which is known as Yawm at Tarwiyah (day of reflection), the pilgrim takes a bath and enters into Ihram from the place of stay, making intention for Hajj. The pilgrim leaves for Mina and stays there in the tents spending their time meditating and praying. On the 9th of Dhul Hijjah after Fajr prayer, the pilgrims leave Mina for the plains of Arafat for the Wuquf “the Standing” the central rite of the Hajj. Hajj is not complete without standing and praying to Allah the Almighty in Arafat. Prophet (SAW) said: “Arafat is Hajj” . The pilgrims perform the zuhar and asr prayers combined and shortened . Just after sunset the pilgrims leave Arafat for Muzdalifah reciting Talbeeyah and perform Magrib and Isha prayers combined and shortened. Pilgrims spend their night praising Allah. On the 10th of Dhul Hijjah after the Fajr prayer, the pilgrims leave for Mina. There they throw seven pebbles one after the other at the big pillar known as Jamratul-Aqabah saying “Allahu Akbar” after each throw. Following the casting of the pebbles, pilgrims sacrifice a goat, sheep, cow or camel. The men shave their head or cut some of their hair. The women cut a length of a finger tip of their hair. Pilgrims go back to Makkah to perform another obligatory rite of the Hajj: the Tawaf al Ifaadah, the seven-fold circumambulation of the Holy Ka'bah.

Then they drink the water of Zamzam. Then they perform the next rite, the Sai'e ("the running"). Now the pilgrims are completely out of Ihram. On 11 ,12 ,& 13 Dhul Hijjah , the pilgrims stay in Mina and throw pebbles at the three pillars every day . th

Hasan Bin Ali (RA)

PAGE: 2

(The beloved grand son of The Prophet (saw) ) Hasan bin Ali bin Abi Talib bin Abdul Mutallib bin Hashim bin Abd Manaf was born in the middle of Ramadan, the third year of Hijrah. His father was Ali bin Abi Talib whom the Prophet (SAW) loved so much and his mother was the beloved daughter of the prophet, Fatima bint Muhammad. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) cared for Hasan from his earliest years by calling the adhan in his ears and performed Tahnik with his saliva. Hasan used to keep company with the Prophet (SAW) and play with him often and remain patient with any mischief he got up to in his presence. He combined a beautiful character with a beautiful disposition, being graceful, handsome, dignified, generous, kind, pious and modest. His beautiful form is not surprising, nor is his beautiful character, because he was the grandson of the messenger of Allah and the closest of people in resemblance to him. When the prophet (SAW) passed away, peoples eyes would be filled with tears and the men would break into sobs seeing Hasan as he reminded them of the prophet (SAW). He was extremely gentle towards anyone who wronged him or behaved ignorant towards him. What gentleness is greater than this that he gave up the caliphate, which was his by right, due to fear of spilling the blood of the Muslims? He used to say, ”I did not wish to have power over the nation of Muhammad at the cost of spilling the Muslims’ blood. He was chaste in speech, never spoke evil or lewdness. Hassan was highly respected and esteemed by the companions particularly since he resembled his grandfather, the Messenger of Allah, No one who saw him could fail to respect him, esteem him and treat him in the manner which his status deserved. Hasan (RA) was extremely pious, God fearing, and careful in trying to please his Lord. He performed Hajj 25 times on foot. He was a scholar whose knowledge was vast. In spite of the fact that he was young when the Prophet (SAW) died, he memorized some ahadith from him and narrated them. Hasan was poisoned and when death came to him he said, “Take my bed out to the courtyard of the house, so that I may look towards the kingdom of the heavens”, so they took out his bed and he raised his head towards the heaven and said, “ Oh, Allah! I believe that my soul will soon be with You and it is the dearest of souls to me”. When his death was close, he asked permission from Aishah (RA) to be buried in her house, beside his grandfather and Aishah (RA) agreed. But some people from the tribe of Banu Umaiyyah prevented him from being buried near to the Messenger of Allah. His brother Hussain wanted to take up the sword against those who prevented Hasan from being buried near to his grandfather, but Ibn Umar reminded him that his brother had ordered him not to shed blood in the matter and so he changed his mind and Hasan was buried in Al- Baqi’ Cemetery. He died at the age of forty seven in the year 49 AH .May Allah have mercy on him. -Compiled by Mariyah Abdulla Grade 6

E for Eid Mela E for Exciting!! The day of Eid Mela was on of the most awaited days for my elder sister and I . We had lots of games, food and fun . I even had fun selling the strawberry cookies which I brought from home. I loved the chicken pokadas , the ice cream, the cutlets, the chips and the burgers which my school friends sold. I played the bowling alley game and I got couple of sweets as a prize for it. Alhamdulillah that our teachers planned such a treat for us. It was great Mela indeed!!! Inshallah I look forward for the next Eid Mela. -Written By Aishah Abdullah Gr.1

The story of Prophet Ibrahim(AS) Prophet Ibrahim also known as Khaliullah (friend of Allah) had a father named Azar, who worshiped idols. One day he went to his father and asked “How can you pray to a piece of stone?” Then Azar got really angry and warned Ibrahim not to ask those questions. Ibrahim felt sorry for his people. When Ibrahim was a little older and a prophet of Allah, he had a dream that Allah is telling him to travel and preach. So Ibrahim went to Canaan along with his wife Sarah and his nephew Prophet Lut . In Canaan, he spread the word about Allah, and then he moved to Egypt. He got Hajar there. Sarah was happy, she wanted a baby in the family but she was too old. Hajar and Ibrahim had a son, Ismail. Ibrahim took them to Mecca, on Allahs command and left them there. Ibrahim left back to Canaan. Hajar had some water and food which did not last long . Ismail began to cry with thirst. Hajar went looking for water. She ran between the hills of Safa and Marwah 7 times. While Hajar went up and down the hills, Ismail was crying and kicking the ground. Then suddenly water bursted out of the ground. It was named „Zam Zam‟ . One night in Ibrahim‟s (AS) dream, Allah told him to sacrifice his son Ismail. He narrated this dream to Ismail and he agreed with this and they went to Mina. He laid Ismail down to sacrifice him. As soon as he was going to sacrifice him, Allah (swt) replaced Ismail with a lamb. This is why we celebrate Eid-Ul-Adha. Later Ibrahim and his son Ismail built the Kaaba, and by the Kaaba today are Ibrahim's (AS) foot prints -Compiled by Muhammad Thaiyib Grade.5
