A hidden gem for curious minds Our range of opportunities enables every pupil to discover their own particular talents. We are passionate about developing future-proof, resilient children and we encourage all our pupils to participate fully in school life. Curiosity is ignited by a highly-skilled, dedicated team. Pastoral care is exceptional. Learning is extended by the wide-range of extra-curricular activities. These factors contribute significantly to the excellent standards achieved by our pupils. As well as attaining places at selective Grammar Schools, thanks to the academic rigour and support, we have the confidence that they will go on to enhance the excellent academic success enjoyed in the Senior School. Beechwood’s pupils are happy children; they are also articulate, courteous, considerate individuals who are developing their selfconfidence and preparing for the future. We believe that children with a sense of wellbeing and mindfulness will learn, feel secure and develop into fully-rounded, successful individuals. Your children will love it. Don’t just take my word for it, come and discover this wonderful place for yourselves when you visit this hidden gem of a school. Beechwood teaches you how to be a good, kind and helpful friend. Year 5 pupil

Beechwood is a Catholic school, originally founded by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, where children of all faiths benefit from the school’s traditional values. The Beechwood Code helps pupils to understand what we expect of them. From their early years through to the oldest in the school, Beechwood boys and girls learn to respect the feelings of other people and to show consideration for each other. Older children become playground buddies and later school prefects, giving them a sense of responsibility as they recognise that their actions are seen and emulated by younger pupils. In Form Time and in School Council, pupils learn to listen and to develop their own opinions. In our small classes, everyone has the chance to speak and to feel that their contribution is valued. The House system also encourages everyone to take part in events and feel part of a team.

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire William Butler Yeats

We want Beechwood boys and girls to enjoy coming to school. Our skilful teachers stimulate and inspire their pupils, who tackle their work with growing confidence, knowing that there will always be someone there to lend a hand. Classrooms are well-resourced; teachers and their assistants work with individuals to ensure that they can all reach their goals. As the children get older they have some lessons from specialist teachers, helping to prepare them for the next stage of their education. We always have time to treat each boy or girl as an individual, and to listen to their needs. No matter what their aptitude, Beechwood will find and nurture it, building self-esteem and a joy in learning. Across the whole range of abilities, children are encouraged and helped to do their best.

At Beechwood Prep School we do more than develop the essential life skills of numeracy and literacy; we have a broad curriculum, enhanced by real-life experiences on a wide variety of outings and by visiting experts who bring their knowledge and enthusiasm to the classroom.

There are lots of fun clubs after school like chess, rugby and judo. Year 4 pupil

Our exciting outdoor education programme includes camps and activities which give children a sense of independence and adventure. Subject specific skills are enhanced by theme days, in which a whole day is devoted to one subject: Science Days involve investigation and research; literature comes to life on World Book Day; French Day brings language use, gastronomy, fashion and drama. After school and in lunchtime clubs, girls and boys have the opportunity to broaden their experiences. Many choose to take private lessons in instrumental music, speech and drama, chess, ballet, fencing and more. There is something for every child to enjoy.
