Key benefits of using spray foam systems  Energy efficiency Spray foam is a speedy, efficient insulation solution coupled with significantly lower U-values than other conventional insulation materials. Spray foam has a thermal conductivity as low as 0.025W/mK.

 Air tightness The continuous spray leaves a minimal amount of surface area without insulation resulting in an airtight building envelope of low permeability, and without the need for supplementary material. The foam is fast to apply and quick to cure. Spray foam therefore offers the specifier an all in one solution to meet and exceed latest Building Regulations requirements.

 Sustainability By virtually eliminating air leakage, spray foam helps control the movement of vapour and moisture throughout the building, reducing the risk of condensation and mould. Sustainable over the life span of the building, spray foam can even prolong the buildings life as it protects against premature deterioration of building materials.

4

 Design freedom Spray foam also provides the specifier with complete design freedom as the spray foam adapts to the shape of the substrate providing an ideal solution for insulating difficult areas such as profiled and curved roofs. Technical support is available via our in-house team and external retained consultants.

 Occupier comfort For building occupiers, spray foam makes a significant contribution to a comfortable indoor climate by creating a draft free environment that prevents the infiltration of pollutants, toxins and allergens.

 Reliability BASF spray foam is only installed by BASF-trained professionals. A nationwide network of Approved Contractors is available throughout the UK and Ireland.

Foam Masters Approved Contractors

Every high performing system requires high performance installation to guarantee satisfaction. In order to ensure the highest standard application, BASF spray foam systems can only be installed by fully trained and qualified spray Foam Masters. A Foam Master is part of a well established and growing consortium of independent local spray foam contractors across Ireland and the UK.

FOAM MASTERS Before receiving the Foam master accolade contractors must attend a rigorous training programme located at the BASF Training Centre in Alfreton. The training programme includes application techniques, building regulations, health and safety requirements and much more. Graduating from the Foam Master academy takes time and commitment. Upon completion each contractor is issued with a photo identity card and entry to part of the Foam Master database. Why choose a Foam Master? Foam Masters have become highly skilled installers of the BASF spray foam product range, guaranteeing the client that the project will be completed to the highest quality and with the best product available. Each Foam Master is a local independent contractor with a local reputation to maintain and as part of the Foam Master network, offers consistent level of service and quality throughout Ireland and the UK.

What they offer • A comprehensive product range including cavity wall injection, closed and open cell foam manufactured by the leading supplier of Polyurethane solutions for systems. • Identify your needs and offer the most appropriate product to suit your application. • Technical advice, U-value calculations and condensation risk analysis supported by both Econ and BASF. • You benefit from the financial stability and quality assurance of the highly trained Foam Master professional whose work and business profile must meet the stringent quality standards of a renowned global corporation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are polyurethane foams applied? Our polyurethane systems consist of two component spray applied foams and are installed by trained applicators with specialist spray foam equipment. What are the differences between low density opencell and higher density closed cell foams? Open cell foam is applied as a liquid and typically expands to 100 times its original volume to form a semi rigid flexible non structural insulation with a thermal conductivity of 0.037W/mK. Closed cell foam is applied also as a liquid and typically expands 35 to 50 times it original volume to form a rigid structural insulation with a thermal conductivity of 0.025W/mK. BASF closed cell foam has a closed cell content of greater than 90%. Is foam airtight? Yes, both open cell and closed cell spray and injection polyurethane foam have been independently tested for airtightness and performed exceptionally well as air barriers with figures as low as 0.028m³/hr.m². Is spray foam insulation breathable? Yes both open and closed cell foams are vapour permeable, allowing vapour diffuse through the system. Open cell is more vapour open than closed cell with a µ factor of 3.2. Unlike open cell foam, closed cell foam is water tight and impervious to water penetration. Liquid water has much larger structure and is unable to pass into or through a closed cell foam barrier. Is spray foam fire rated? Our BASF closed cell foams are Class 1 surface spread of flame tested to BS476: Part 7. Our open cell product achieved a Class E under the Euroclass single flame fire classification system.

Can spray foam be applied to non breathable roofing felt? No. Spray foam should not be applied to non-breathable roofing felt regardless of type in line with building regulations requirements and good building practice. Such membranes behave as vapour barriers. A vapour permeable slide should be used to maintain a ventilation void between the insulation layer and roof membrane. Can spray foam be applied to breathable roofing felt? In the case of open cell foam applications spray insulation can be applied directly to breathable roof membranes where a counter-batten has been installed between the roof tile or slate batten and roofing membrane. In certain circumstances closed cell foam may be applied directly to breathable roofing felts without the need for a counter batten. Please consult our technical department for information relating to your specific construction. What is the insulation u-value of your system? The U-value is calculated by adding the thermal resistance of each material within an element to find the total heat resistance and then calculating the reciprocal of this value to establish the total heat loss associated with the elements (wall, roof etc.) represented as a U-value. Will sealing my building with spray foam insulation affect the air quality of my building? Spray foam insulation will help to provide and air tight barrier to the envelope of your building thereby eliminating unwanted air penetration and heat loss. However the quality of the air inside your building should be considered separately and will depend on controlling the level of ventilation by using mechanical or natural passive ventilation systems.
