Whatt is Affordablee Housing? Affordablee Housing is a vague v term gennerally definedd as housing whhere the occuppant pays no moore than 30% of o gross income forr total housing costs, includinng utilities. Whatt is Public Housing? Public Houusing is housin ng which a Pubblic Housing Auuthority operattes. A backgrouund check is reequired in all Public P Housingg buildings. Whatt is a Public Housing H Autho ority? A Public Housing H Authorrity is a public agency created by state or loocal governmennt to finance orr operate low-iincome housing. I've heard h that Secction 8 helps lo ow-income peeople with theiir rent. What is Section 8 an nd how can I apply? a The Sectioon 8 Program iss a federally fuunded rent subssidy program for fo lower incom me persons. Thee local housingg authority (HA) receiives funds from m HUD to adm minister the Section 8 Program m. The HA deteermines your eligibility for thhe program andd the amountt of the rental assistance a paym ment. You are required to payy 30% of your adjusted incom me for rent. Transitionaal Housing is th hat which assissts people transition from hom melessness to greater g indepenndence and sellf-sufficiency. Typically, a person/familly who is homeeless will movee into transitionnal housing as part of a compprehensive program with selffsufficiencyy as the end goal. Transitionaal housing usuaally offers suppportive servicess like job trainiing/assistance, GED preparationn/tutoring, chilldcare services and/or referralls, budget/finanncial managem ment workshops, etc. In most cases, persons/fam milies pay a modest m fee or peercentage of theeir income for rent. Short-terrm housing mayy be 60-90 dayys while longterm housiing may allow for residency up u to 2 years.
