Welcome to Vihula Manor Country Club & Spa, the first fullservice manor resort in the Baltic countries, set amidst the wildlife-rich Lahemaa National Park and only 4 km from the gentle waters of the Baltic Sea in Northern Estonia. This elegant and secluded estate, which dates from the 16th century, is a perfect escape from the bustling life of the city and a supremely comfortable and luxurious place to stay, whether you are here on business, attending a family celebration or relaxing on holiday. Vihula Manor is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in Estonia, with its painstakingly renovated ensemble of historical buildings located in a picture-perfect balance with each other and with the surrounding nature. Above all, Vihula Manor will enchant you with its atmosphere. With the old historical buildings reflected in the waters, the slow-moving Mustoja River snakes around the manor park with its majestic trees and luscious greenery, before gradually broadening into a lily-covered pond with miniature islands and lovely wooden bridges. At the far end, a weir beside an old watermill lends these enchanted gardens the magical, echoing sound of rushing water...... This is the romance of Vihula Manor.

Vihula Manor represents more than 800 exciting years of history. The Danish knight, Odvard von Lode, accompanied King Canute VI of Denmark on his crusade against the pagan Estonians at the end of the 12th century. Most probably, Odvard von Lode was rewarded the area around Vihula and established the first manor there at that time. The earliest written source that refers to Vihula Manor is dated 1501 and places ownership in the hands of a successor of the bold Danish knight, Baron Hans von Lode. During the 16th century, the German noble families Wekebrod and von Helffreich became the owners of Vihula Manor. At the beginning of the 19th century, the economic situation of the owners was very difficult and the manor was sold at an auction. In 1810 Alexander von Schubert became the new owner. The oldest preserved building of the estate is the socalled Back Manor. It was constructed in the second half of the 18th century. Vihula Manor as it appears today was built during the time of the von Schuberts. The historicist main building was completed in the 1880s, but mostly the buildings were constructed between 1820 and 1840. After WWI, Vihula Manor was nationalized, existing as a state-owned estate between the two world

wars. However, the von Schubert family remained at the estate until 1939. During WWII, the estate was an Intelligence School for the German Abwehr counterintelligence and after the war it served as a home for senior citizens and as a collective farm. Since 1st of July 1991, the estate has been managed by the company Vihula Manor, which is privately owned.

The restoration has combined historical ambience with a daring design. The historical atmosphere has been enhanced by details that have survived the brutal onslaught of the centuries, such as steep staircases, wooden floorboards, ornamented ceilings, original fireplaces, large bright windows and handsome façades. Other than that, the style is strictly and daringly minimalist with bright walls, open spaces, Scandinavian furniture and design and all the modern conveniences that can be expected from a contemporary luxurious resort. Vihula Manor is Green Key certified and has been developed with a green concept placing strong focus on nature- and envirronmental friendly solutions in all aspects – from using natural materials in the construction and design to energy-saving power solutions and from local organic food served in the restaurants to 100% natural treatments in the Eco-SPA. The Vihula Manor restoration project took four years and was co-funded by the European Union Regional Development Fund. Vihula Manor was reborn on the 1st of June 2008 as the Vihula Manor Country Club & Spa by Unique Hotels. After a change in ownership, Vihula Manor has been completely restored to its former glory and beauty. The restoration has preserved the historical concept of a Baltic manor as an independent economical unit and developed Vihula Manor into a full-service manor

resort, a cultural centre and an important tourist attraction. The buildings of the estate have, one by one, been painstakingly restored with the utmost care for retaining the historical authenticity of each building and of the estate as a whole.
