First comes loves, then comes marriage ... then what? If sex is natural, why are we so eager to make it artificial? In this presentation, Jason Evert presents the case for Natural Family Planning as he unveils the beauty of God's plan for sexuality. Jason has spoken about chastity to more than one million people around the world and is the author of more than a dozen books.

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION St. Leo the Great Parish offers Religious Education classes for those in grades 1-10. Registration forms were sent home to everyone whom our records indicate should be enrolled next year. If you need a registration form or would like information about our faith formation and sacramental preparation programs, please call the Parish Offices at 835-8905 x 14 or go online to: ww.stleothegreatamherst.com. We are here to assist you in your mission of raising your child to be a faithful disciple of Jesus. We hold religious education classes for those who are in first through sixth grade roughly every other week on Saturday mornings from 9 AM- 11 AM, and classes for those who are in sixth through tenth grade roughly every other week on Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30 PM.

WHAT IS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH Many people are puzzled by the idea of the Church. They may believe in God, and have faith in Jesus and study the bible, and pray, and try to lead good lives. But they don’t understand why we need a Church. If you or some one you know is interested in becoming a Catholic or learning more about the Catholic Faith contact Dawn at 835-8905 x 12 or [email protected]

We also offer an At-Home/Sunday Program for students in all grade levels. This program consists of parents working on assignments with their children throughout the month and then meeting one Sunday a month for a family session. Please register your child soon, and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same. I PLACE MY TRUST IN YOU When troubles and sorrow come into our lives we can get so caught up in them that it is difficult to find adequate words for prayer. Yet prayer is a vital source for sustaining and encouraging us when we are stumbling amid the pain of life. Prayer can be a deep source of hope and strength, reminding us that we are not alone, that we always have a Loving Companion to journey with us. Sometimes we can be too dazed, too tired, or too discouraged to speak with this Compassionate One who never leaves us. Prayers express spiritual longings, comfort you and bring you peace. -Joyce Rupp author of Praying Our Goodbyes, Your Sorrow is My Sorrow and other books on suffering

St. Francis High School Summer Basketball Camp 2016

A NOBLE HOLY CUSTOM Intentions for Celebration of Masses Catholic tradition teaches that individuals can be assisted by the prayers of others, a belief that goes back to Old Testament times and also finds expression in the New Testament. A celebration of a particular Mass intention is among one of the many expressions of our Catholic tradition and piety. In doing such, one fulfills the beautiful and commendable practice of one of the several spiritual works of mercy, namely, to pray for the living and the dead, certainly a most appropriate act of piety. Masses can be offered for a number of various intentions: • for a deceased loved one, a family member, or a friend who has died, as well as on the anniversary of the death of the deceased; •

to invoke the Lord’s special graces and blessings for a friend or loved one;

to petition the Lord for the good health of someone who is ill or to pray for successful surgery and speedy recovery;

to ask the Lord’s blessings for a couple celebrating their wedding anniversary;

in thanksgiving for graces received by an individual

In this commendable practice of devotion and piety, individuals provide an offering for particular Mass intentions. In the Diocese of Buffalo, $15 is the recommended offering per Mass intention. An individual requesting a Mass intention can contact a parish rectory to schedule a particular Mass intention at a daily Mass or at a Mass celebrated on the weekend.

The Summer Basketball Camp is a program open to boys entering the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. It is a one week program taking place the week of August 1, 2016 through August 5, 2016 from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. Students will learn skills and drills from St. Francis High School coaches.
