No, I tell you, but rather division.” (Luke 12:51) Living a stewardship lifestyle means stepping out of our comfort zone when needed. Many of us like to play it safe, not cause waves, stay in the middle of the road. In today’s world we are called to be informed and take a stance for life, marriage, and religious liberty.

Gathering Rite The “gathering rite” is a name descriptive of its purpose. According to the Sacramentary, the purpose is to unify the assembled people into a community prepared to listen to God’s word and to celebrate the Eucharist. We experience ourselves as a worshiping community. We acknowledge that we have come together to worship the Lord. We begin to pray together to be ready to hear God’s word and to receive God’s sacrament as that assembly called together by God for his purpose.

PARISH RENOVATION LOAN Our Renovation Loan had reached the end of the loan terms as of June 2016. Fr. Joseph refinanced the amount to be paid of $1,861,555 for three more years. Because the loan amount was so much lower than the original amount, our monthly payments have decreased from $31,129 to $15,805. Thank you for your generosity so that we can work toward paying down the principal ahead of schedule if possible and save money for the parish.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who dedicated her life to helping the poorest of the poor, will be canonized a saint on September 4, 2016. We will feature some interesting facts about her in the coming weeks leading up to her canonization.  In 2002, the Vatican recognized as a miracle the healing of a tumor in the abdomen of an Indian woman, Monica Besra, after the application of a locket containing Mother Teresa’s pictur e. Mother Teresa said, “By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus.” On December 17, 2015, Pope Francis issued a decree that recognized a second miracle attributed to Mother Teresa, clearing the way for her to be canonized as a saint. The Second Miracle involved the healing of a man in Santos, Brazil, who was diagnosed with a viral brain infection and lapsed into a coma. His wife, family and friends prayed to Mother Teresa, and when the man was brought to the operating room for emergency surgery, he woke up without pain and cured of his symptoms. http:www.biography.com/people/mother-teresa

ADULT BIBLE STUDY “Exodus: Called to Freedom” looks through the lens of Christ and the Church to show that more than just seeking to free His people from the domination of Pharaoh, God desired to free His people from the far more sinister tyranny of sin, so they could live the authentic freedom that belongs to children of God. Because of this, the Exodus story is not just Israel’s story, it is our story as well; it tells us who God is and what He calls us to be. We will begin a new Bible study “Exodus: Called to Freedom” in September. The evening session on Monday night begins September 12th at 7:00 - 9:00 pm and the morning session on Tuesday, September 13th 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (noon). It is a 10 week study. Please call Mary Pesek at 713771-3482 or Theresa Moore at 713-988-0559 to sign up.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), also called the Catechumenate, is a spiritual process and the formation steps one takes to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church; that is, to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. St. Francis de Sales parish offers guidance, formation and religious education for all who desire to know about the Catholic faith, beliefs and practices. We welcome the following persons:

 

An adult wishing to inquire about becoming Catholic A baptized adult from another Christian faith wishing to inquire about the Catholic faith  A baptized Catholic adult who has not received the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and/or Confirmation  A non-practicing Catholic wishing to return. Classes offered in English and Spanish. Please call Vicky Quiray, Director of Adult Faith Formation, at 713-774-7475 for appointment and information.

SAVE THE DATE! COMING IN SEPTEMBER Coming in September! Mystery of God What do we really mean by “God”? In this new six-part film series and study program, Bishop Robert Barron reaches into our rich intellectual tradition to teach us how we can turn the tide of secularism and draw people back to God. Using the insights of St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, Pope Benedict XVI, he uncovers a clear yet sophisticated understanding of what we mean by “God”. Who is God? And why does he matter? Watch this series and you’ll not only learn the answers yourself, but you’ll discover how to share them with others– especially those who no longer believe. Beginning Thursday, September 15, 2016 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm / Saturday, September 17, 2016 9:00 am - 11:00 am.
