As a member of the Association of Professional Schools in International Affairs (APSIA), the Graduate School of International Studies at Seoul National University (SNU-GSIS) is widely acknowledged as a leading educational institution of international studies. Its program reaches out internationally through its cooperative ties with other prestigious partner organizations around the world. As a source of knowledge, skills and ideas, GSIS seeks to contribute to the promotion of mutual understanding, peace, and prosperity, both regionally and globally.

Climate change, global financial instability, nuclear proliferation and terrorism, underdevelopment and poverty. These are only a few of the dire challenges the world is faced with today. Many of them are so immense as to transcend national boundaries. Thus, few, if any, of them can be understood or solved without working through close international cooperation.

The mission of the GSIS is to train our students to become leaders and problem-solvers in responding to such challenges. With an eminent faculty comprising accomplished scholars and top-level practitioners coupled with an interdisciplinary curriculum combining theory with practical training, we prepare our students for careers in the public, private and non-profit sectors relating to international affairs. Indeed, our alumni are very active in those sectors across the world. Our students benefit from numerous conferences, seminars, public lectures, and special events that take place at the GSIS, which provide them with opportunities to interact with leaders in government, business and international organizations.

The diversity of our student body is yet another of the strengths of the GSIS. With almost 40% of the students coming from all over the world, GSIS is a truly international educational institution. Furthermore, we maintain an extensive network of exchange and cooperation with prestigious foreign schools of similar orientation. This network provides our students with additional opportunities to explore their ideas and pursue their interests. In addition to being a preeminent institution fully committed to professional education in international affairs, GSIS is a hub of research activities in the field of international and regional studies. Creative ideas and fresh perspectives are produced from the researches at GSIS aimed at making an impact on academic discourses and policy-making.

We welcome talented students with ideals to make this world a better place to live for everyone. We are confident that our education and training can transform their idealism into reality. I hope you consider joining the GSIS community and exploring the exciting careers in international affairs.
