What is the Eisteddfod? Every summer since 1947, Llangollen has staged one of the world’s most inspirational cultural festivals. Each year, around 4,000 performers converge on this beautiful small Welsh town and its International Pavilion; to sing and dance in a unique combination of competition, performance, and international peace and friendship.

Children of the World Wednesday 6 July - Day time

In the Pavilion - Children’s Day begins with a Roald Dahl themed ‘Phizz-whizzing Big Friendly Concert’ exclusively for schools. The first of the week’s competitions start at 1pm and will include Children’s Folk Dance and Junior Children’s Choir, as well as international vocalists.

The festival field is filled with colour and sound, with outside

stage performances, workshops

and impromptu singing and dancing from every corner of the world.

On the Field - The field will be abuzz with a number of interesting performers; stilt walkers, African drummers, Denbighshire County Council Roald Dahl Promenade, Bollywood dancing, giant bubbles, circus skills, international singers, dancers and instrumentalists. Into the evening… • 6.00pm: Latin Dance class • 6.15pm: Jazz Hour - Spirit of Shearing: East Coast Jazz

CARMEN starring Katherine Jenkins Tuesday 5 July Classical singing sensation Katherine Jenkins will lead an all-star cast in a concert adaptation of Georges Bizet’s opera, Carmen. It’s the tale of the downfall of Don José, played by heart throb tenor Noah Stewart, a naïve soldier seduced by the fiery gypsy. It will be the first opportunity fans of Jenkins will have to hear her sing all of Carmen’s operatic arias in one performance. The world-class orchestra of the Welsh National Opera, under the baton of Anthony Inglis, will bring a magical evening of music and drama.

Concert starts: 7.45pm Tickets: £45, £32

Voices of Musical Theatre If you’re a lover of musicals, this is the concert for you! We have brought together a star studded line-up of performers to whisk you away to the wonderful world of the West End, with a programme featuring some of the best musical moments of all time. This celebration of musical theatre will include Kerry Ellis (Wicked), Collabro (Britain’s Got Talent winners), CBC Voices, Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatre and the Arts, and the orchestra of the Welsh National Opera.

Concert starts: 7.45pm Tickets: £30, £25, £20

The stage will also host the heart warming inclusion project; bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to perform together ‘As One!’.

In the Pavilion - Our three main dance competitions take place in the Pavilion; the winners of the Open, Traditional and Choreographed categories will go through to the final of the Dance Champions 2016. We also have Folk and Youth Choirs and our Open Floor Dance competition.

Thursday 7 July - Day time

Into the evening… • 6.00pm: Salsa class • 6.15pm: Jazz Hour - Casey Greene's Latin Jazz

70th Classical Gala Concert

A feast of music and dance from the best of the Eisteddfod’s international competitors. The concert will open with a Caribbean Carnival Extravaganza, and will include the International Peace Message delivered by Theatr yr Ifanc, Rhosllannerchrugog. The international competitors will fill the Pavilion with the annual Procession of Nations. The highlight of the evening will be the Dance Champions 2016 competition that will be held on this evening for the very first time.

They will be joined by the Eisteddfod’s 2014 Voice of the Future competition winner, mezzo soprano Eirlys Myfanwy Davies and the progressive Sinfonia Cymru Orchestra, conducted by Gareth Jones.
