4v4 Indoor Soccer Rules Team Roster  Games are played 4v4 but teams may play with as few as 3 players. The maximum number of players on a roster is 12.  The minimum number of players must be on the court ready to play no later than 10 minutes after the official game time. Teams not ready to play by this time will get a “No-Show” loss.  A player may compete for only one team in a league (Men’s or Women’s). Once a person has played with a team they cannot play with any other team. A player is also eligible to participate in a Co-Rec division.  Varsity soccer players are ineligible.  A player may be added to a roster up to the start of the last regular season game.  All players must sign-in at the score table before every game by presenting their Maroon Card.  Co-Rec Modifications o The number of males cannot exceed the number of females by more than 1 (i.e. 2 males and 2 females or 2 males and 1 female). o The goalie can be of either gender. Playing Surface  Alumni Gym will be reserved for intramural indoor soccer.  The size of the court will be 94 feet x 50 feet.  The black lines on the court are the boundaries and regulation lines.  The 3-point arc is considered the goalie box.  Spectators must remain in their designated areas. Equipment  All players must wear matching color pinnies with different numbers.  All players are required to wear non-marking, athletic sneakers (no sandals or bare feet).  Wearing jewelry (rings, necklaces, earrings, etc.) is prohibited while playing.  It is strongly suggested that players not wear pants or shorts with belt loops or pockets. Denim is not permitted.  Players may not wear headwear that is hard, unyielding, stiff material, including billed hats, or items containing exposed knots (ex. bandanas, skull caps and baseball hats). Players are permitted to wear sweatbands, as long as they are located around the forehead or wrist. Sweatbands around the neck are NOT permitted.  Shin guards are strongly suggested.  Soccer balls, goals, and pinnies will be provided.

Timing  Games will be two 20-minute halves with a 3-minute halftime.  The clock will not stop except for official or team timeouts.  Each team will receive one 30-second timeout per half. A timeout can only be used when your team has possession of the ball. Timeouts do not carry over between halves.  The team captains will compete in Rock-Paper-Scissors to determine possession. The winner will get to choose whether his/her team will play offense or defense or choose the goal a team will defend. Teams automatically switch ends at the half. Scoring  All goals are worth 1 point.  The ball must completely cross the goal line under the crossbar and between the goal posts.  A goal may be scored on a penalty kick, a drop ball, or during regular play.  In the case of a No-Show or Forfeit, the offended team will win by a score of 10-0.  Mercy Rule o 20 points with 10 minutes remaining o 10 points with 5 minutes remaining Ties and Overtime  Regular season games can end in a tie.  For playoff games, the following overtime protocol will be in effect: o Two 5-minute overtime periods will be played with possession determined by RockPaper-Scissors. o If neither team is winning by the end of the overtime periods, a shootout will take place. The 3 players who were on the field will alternate shots from the top of the arc. o If still tied after the first round of shooters, the shootout will continue until one team scores and the other does not. General Rules  Indoor Soccer is played within the lines of the basketball court, not “off-the-wall.”  There will be NO OFFSIDES in indoor soccer.  No player (except the goalie) will be permitted to intentionally use their hands at any time. Self-protection is excluded from this rule. An intentional handball within the goalie box will result in a penalty kick. All other instances will result in an indirect kick.  Initial possession will be determined by Rock-Paper-Scissors. The winner will get to choose whether his/her team will kick off or choose the goal they want to defend first. Teams will automatically switch ends and possession for the second half. Substitutions  Unlimited substitutions may enter the game under the following conditions: o On a team’s own kick-in/corner kicks (if offense subs, then defense may sub too) o On any goal kick o After a goal has been scored 2



o When a player has been cautioned (yellow carded), they must leave game until next substitution opportunity o When a player has been ordered off for equipment change or when an injury occurs All subs must enter and leave from midcourt closest to their designated bench area at the referees’ discretion.

Kickoff  At kickoff, all players must be on their respective halves of the field.  All opposing players must be a minimum of seven feet away at kickoff.  At the start of the second half, the team which did not start the game will receive the kickoff.  One offensive player must kickoff the ball to another player and may not contact the ball again until it has been touched by another player. Kick-ins  A kick-in will occur when the opposing team last touches or plays the ball before the entire ball passes beyond the playing area in the air or on the ground.  Opponents shall not interfere in any way to impede the actions of the kicker. Opposing player must be five (5) feet away from designated kicking area.  The ball may be kicked in any direction from the spot where it crossed the touchline.  The kicker may not touch the ball until played by another player. Penalty: Indirect kick.  A kick that never comes inbound will result in a change of possession. Other Kicks  Free kicks (Indirect) o All free kicks besides penalty kicks are indirect. o A ball that hits the ceiling or any other object will be whistled out of play. The opposing team be rewarded an indirect kick. o Any player of the offended team may take a free kick. o After a player takes the free kick, he/she may not touch the ball before another player. o Players opposing the free kick shall be at least seven feet away.  Corner kicks (Indirect) o A corner kick is awarded to the attacking team if the ball is last touched by the defending team before going out of play over the goal line. o The ball shall be kicked from the ground in the corner nearest the spot where the ball went out of play.  Goal kicks (Indirect) o A goal kick is awarded when the ball goes out of play over the goal line and was last touched by the attacking team. o Players opposing the kicker shall remain outside the penalty area until the ball has cleared the penalty area. o The goal kick must clear the penalty area before it is put in play or will re-kick.  Penalty Kicks (Direct) o A penalty kick is awarded for slide tackling, handball, and any foul which occurs within the offending team’s goal area. o All other players are to be out of the penalty box and on the half court line. 3

o The goalkeeper's heels are required to stay on the line until the ball is kicked, though the goalkeeper may move laterally along the line prior to the kick. o Ball shall be kicked with the ball stationary at the top of the arc. Shot must be taken while in constant motion moving towards the ball. o After kick any player may make a play on the ball, except the kicker in which it must be touched by another player first. Restrictions on Goalkeepers  Goalkeepers are only permitted to use their hands inside the goalie box.  Teams may pass the ball back to the goalie, however the goalie may not pick the ball up with his/her hands. If the ball is unintentionally passed to the goalie by his/her own team, then the goalie may pick it up only inside the box.  Goalies cannot punt the ball and must throw/roll it to a teammate or drop it on the ground then pass it to another player.  Goalkeepers may not kick/roll the ball and then pick it up.  Goalies may not control the ball with either hands or feet in the box for more than 5 seconds. Continued violation of this rule will result in a yellow card at the referee’s discretion. Slide Tackling  Slide tackling is strictly prohibited. Slide tackling will be called when a player slides feet first or head first into the ball or a player unless it occurs where no one is within playable distance.  Goalies may come out headfirst but cannot slide feet first.  Penalty o 1st violation: yellow card and an indirect kick, unless it occurs inside the goal box then a penalty kick will result. o 2nd violation: red card and an indirect kick; unless it occurs inside the goal box then a penalty kick will result. o Exception: If flagrant contact is made during a slide tackle, an ejection will result immediately. Yellow and Red Cards  Yellow cards are a warning on an illegal play while red cards are an ejection. If a player receives two yellow cards they are ejected.  A player needs not receive two yellow cards in order to be ejected. At discretion of the referee, a player may receive only a red card. A red card results in an additional 1-game suspension.  For every red card, the team must play a player down for the rest of the game.  If a team receives 2 red cards, they must forfeit the game. Fouls and Misconduct  A player shall not kick, trip, push, tackle, strike, or attempt to do so.  A player shall not charge an opponent in a reckless and careless manner. An allowable charge is when both players make shoulder to shoulder contact in an upright position, with the ball in playing distance, having one foot on the ground and their arms held close to their bodies.  A player shall not charge into an opponent when neither player is within playing distance of the ball. The deliberate act of a player, not in possession of the ball, shielding an opponent from the ball is not permitted. 4

A player who purposely falls without receiving any direct contact from the opposing team (at discretion of referee) will result in an indirect kick for the opposing team. A player shall not recklessly charge or foul the goalkeeper with the ball in hand. A goalkeeper shall not strike or push an opponent with or without the ball in their possession. No player may interfere with the goalkeeper in the process of kicking/throwing the ball. Yelling or arguing with the official is not permitted.
