ANZAC Day Our school will be recognising ANZAC Day by holding a school service at 10.45am on Wednesday 27th April (first day Term 2). Again, this year we would like to make floral wreaths as part of our commemoration. We would like all families (if possible) to send in some flowers on Wednesday morning to go towards the making of the wreaths. Please feel free to attend this special assembly and join the staff and students in remembering our country’s ANZACs. A big thank you to Mrs McCorriston for organising the ceremony this year. In addition, the school will participate in the Glenorie ANZAC ceremony and march at 3pm on 25th April. If your child is wishing to attend the march, please assemble in the Woolworths car park prior to 3pm in school uniform on ANZAC Day.

A Big Thank You We have such a dedicated team at Glenorie Public School. Thanks to Anna & Rosa, our cleaners, and Neil Daniels, our general assistant, for taking our flag pole down and repairing it so our flag can again fly high. We appreciate your support.

It is with great sadness that we say good bye to Miss Phillips, who sets off on her big overseas adventure next week. Miss Phillips has brought joy to the whole community and has made a big impact on many students at Glenorie Public School. On behalf of the entire Glenorie Public School community, I would like to thank you, Miss Phillips, for the outstanding work that you have done over the past year and for replacing Ms Hugo this term.

Cross Country Carnival Please be informed that our school Cross Country Carnival will be held on Friday 6 th May (Week 2). All students in Years K – 6 will compete. The canteen will be selling cakes and drinks on the day. Thanks to Mr Gornalle for coordinating what we are sure will be a great day!

Pens…Pencils…Erasers… Earlier this year we sent home a stationery list suggesting the items that your child would need to complete class work this year. Some children have been “very active” with their stationery and supplies are depleting. Please check your child’s pencil case and restock it if new pencils, pens, erasers, rulers, glue sticks, etc. are needed. Thanks for your support.

Mr Moloney will be replacing Miss Phillips on 3/4H and we take this opportunity to welcome Mr Moloney to our wonderful school.

The Dreaded Lice Epidemic This time of year is notorious for head lice and nits. Please keep a watchful eye on your child’s hair and consult your pharmacist if you notice any signs of lice. Please use the school holidays as a chance to thoroughly check your child’s hair and, if necessary, treat accordingly.

KS News KS really enjoyed visiting the butcher, bakery, chemist, dentist and Woolworths as part of learning about the different jobs people do in our local community. Last week Mrs Truelove taught us all about floristry. A special thank you to Nati Bros for supplying the roses which most lucky mums were then presented with. We are looking forward to learning about what a nurse does with Mrs Hope today. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us mums.

‘Pam’ - A special visitor to Glenorie PS On Tuesday, Stage 2 classes were treated to a visit from ‘Pam’ a 91-year-old resident from the Anglican Retirement Village at Castle Hill. Pam, born in 1921, spoke with the children about the very different conditions she encountered as a child growing up in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The children asked thoughtful and interesting questions and felt sorry for her when Pam shared the story about receiving ‘the cane’ for speaking while in lines…… Ouch! Poor Pam! Other changes discussed involved fashion during the depression era, the need for backyard vegetable gardens, visits from the milkman and the iceman, as well as changes in technology, eg: washing machines have replaced washboards and coppers. Students were interested to hear about a time in Australian history that involved no computers, mobile phones or iPads. We discovered that people completed documents using a typewriter and listened to ‘news’ on the wireless radio. Pam brought in a variety of items including Mechano toys, old fashioned cotton reels, a metal iron and interestingly, from the 1970’s, a vinyl record (Australian Crawl) which caused an argument between Mrs Pearce and Mrs Harmon as to who they loved the most ….. David or James Reyne. All in all, it was a fascinating morning and we appreciated Pam’s stories, knowledge and generosity in agreeing to speak to our children.
