INTRODUCTION

Samsung aspires to create new technologies and innovative products that inspire the world, delivering genuine value that enhances the lives of its customers, partners and employees. Samsung Electronics was established in 1969 and has since gone on to lead the world of consumer electronics through relentless innovation and a passion for discovery. Many of these innovations were born from a deep commitment to R&D that, through considered research, has led to many breakthroughs from the first ever digital TV to the first mobile phone able to play MP3s. Design has long been at the center of Samsung products, influencing not only their look and feel but also how they are built. Currently one in four of the company’s total workforce is

based in 33 R&D centers that span the globe, drawing upon the wealth of diverse global talent to develop future technologies. Samsung’s design approach, Make it Meaningful, places the greatest importance on how design brings value to consumers’ lives by making technology more natural and intuitive, as well as making an emotional connection. To date Samsung has been recognized with over 600 design accolades, from prestigious design bodies such as iF and IDEA, and this document traces the history of many of its most admired product lines.

To meet growing demand for color televisions, Samsung launched its first color TV abroad in 1976 before launching the television domestically in 1980.

The +Plus One had the world’s first 12.8:9 screen format. The television screen was created from input across the Samsung business, including Samsung Corning, Samsung SDI and Samsung Electric.

Samsung’s First Samsung’s Monochrome TV First Color TV Samsung’s 12” vacuum tube TV was Samsung’s first TV and was also exported for use in Panama. This TV was heralded the dawn of a new chapter in Samsung’s electronic history.

The Econo TV, Samsung’s First Quick Start TV Samsung’s energy saving TV would play immediately when switched on, without needing to warm up. It was also Samsung’s first black and white TV to be exported.

The World’s First Bio TV Samsung’s first bio TV was designed to allay the public’s health concerns around TVs emitting electronic rays, using infrared waves instead.

The CD Music Center offered a range of features to play music in the home, including an LP player, radio and cassette player.

The Mymy The name ‘mymy’ was chosen following a competition and became an alternative term for cassette players. The Mymy was Samsung’s first portable mini cassette player.

The CD-OK The CD-OK was named to reflect the way in which the device offered both a CD and Karaoke player. It offered high audio quality and featured 1,500 songs and could also display four thousand pictures from the CDs.

The World’s First Blu-ray Home Theater System The system played Blu-ray discs and DVDs through the high quality speakers.

Samsung’s first MP3 Player was the size of a business card, which made it smaller than any other on the market. It won ‘Excellent Design Product’ at the iF design awards.

The Mymy Wingo The Mymy Wingo CD Player could also recharge the batteries of portable Mymy CD player so music could be enjoyed at home and on the move.

Samsung’s wireless audio dock uses new vacuum tube amplifier technology to deliver a warmer, more natural sound.

The World’s First Dual Band Wireless Sound Bar The 39 mm ultra slim sound bar was able to be mounted on a wall and came with wireless subwoofers.

The Wireless Sound Bar For the first time, vacuum tubes were mounted inside the sound bar to deliver a more authentic sound. The soundshare technology also enables the user to connect the sound bar to a TV via Bluetooth.

The Galaxy Laundry Machine Samsung’s first washing machine was manuallyoperated with two separate tubs for washing and drying.

Able to automatically adjust the amount of detergent and time needed, centripetal water flow emulated the effectiveness of hand washing.

Samsung’s First Drum Washing Machine The washing machine made use of the rotating force of the laundry to increase cleaning performance.

The Crystal Laundry Machine The machine prevented laundry from being twisted or damaged and increased washing efficiency by using hot water. With a 4.5kg drum, the largest capacity for its time, all modes could be chosen by one touch of a button.

Samsung’s First Steam and Air Wash Drum Washing Machine The machine dramatically increased washing performance by spraying steam into the drum. Its Air Wash mode used no water to remove odor and germs with no harm to fabric.

The “Baby Love” Washing Machine The 3kg baby-focused machine steamed clothes up to 90° C to eliminate germs, and additional rinse modes were perfect for babies sensitive to detergent.

The Diamond Drum Washing Machine The machine counteracted vibration and noise using two unique rings containing 14 stainless steel ball bearings to balance the drum.

The First Bubble Drum Washing Machine

The machine automatically calculates the amount of detergent and softener needed based on the weight of the laundry. Its Air Speed Dry feature dries clothes faster without water, leading to a reduced drying time.

Its Bubble Engine formed fine detergent bubbles within the two minutes of operation that permeated deep into clothes to make a full cycle last only 59 minutes.

The Fully Automated Wobble Washing Machine The Wobble pulsator not only creates both left and right but also upward and downward flows, creating a three-dimensional dynamic water current resulting in cleaner clothes.
