June 21, 2013 On behalf of the National Duckpin Youth Association and Duckpin Bowling Proprietors of America, I offer our sincere congratulations to all of the teams which have advanced to the 40th annual NDYA National Duckpin Youth Championships. A great number of coaches, parents, proprietors and bowlers have contributed to making this weekend a very unique event and we extend our heartfelt appreciation to them. I want to thank our NDYA Director, Stacy Karten, and our dedicated Board for their commitment to providing our youth bowlers with a terrific program. We also thank AMF Dundalk for supporting this weekend with their wonderful staff and facility and the Crowne Plaze Baltimore for accommodating us. This wonderful tournament weekend is about good sportsmanship, making friends, and having a fun time bowling duckpins. Bowling as a team builds many life-long relationships and happy memories. As stated above, this is a special year — our 40th anniversary for the NDYA and our National Tournament. Countless people have served and made our organization a success. Our gratitude goes out to the various NDYA Presidents, Board members and Program Directors (Evelyn Foreman Larochelle, Carol Yingling and Stacy Karten), plus a long time Co-Advisor, Jim "Buddy" Russell. Thanks to all of the people who keep our great game of duckpins moving forward and have an enjoyable weekend.

June 21, 2013 Greetings, On behalf of the National Duckpin Bowling Congress (NDBC) I would like to welcome the participants and coaches to the 2013 National Duckpin Youth Association National Tournament. Each year this event gives an opportunity to the best youth bowlers from each region to compete for the title of National Champion. I wish everyone the best of luck as they compete for that title. Even though only one team from each division can be named the champions, take pride in knowing your accomplishments on the lanes are what brought you here. One final thought. I would also like to thank the NDYA staff, coaches and most of all the parents for supporting the NDYA and the game of duckpins throughout the year. Without your dedication and support of these youth there would be no duckpin youth organization or national championship event. THE ZARRELLA AWARD Beginning with the 1986 National Duckpin Youth Championships, an award called the Zarrella Award has been presented at the national tournament. The Zarrella Award goes to the national tournament bowler who bowls the most pins over his/her three-game average. The award is named for Tom and Ray Zarrella who owned and operated the Garden City Lanes in Cranston, Rhode Island for 32 years. After the bowling center closed in 1985, a banquet was held for Tom and Ray and some money was contributed to the National Duckpin Youth Association for the creation of this everlasting award in Tom and Ray's names.

$500 SCHOLARSHIPS The boys and girls who bowl the highest three-game sets, scratch and handicap, during the tournament win $500 scholarships. These awards are announced during Saturday night's awards banquet. This year's $500 scholarships are again being funded through generous contributions from the following people/organizations: •Peter Capello, proprietor of the Bowling Academy in E. Providence, Rhode Island, contributed money in his late parents' names, Cap and Dorothy, and in memory of his friend, Ted Barnes. •Pete Santora, was vice president of Fair Lanes, Inc., and was greatly involved in the duckpin industry, who died in September, 2012. Special Awards The Mattie Schneider Strikemaster Award The bowler who rolls the most strikes in this weekend's tournament will win the Mattie Schneider Strikemaster Award and receive a plaque at the awards banquet! This special award is named in memory of Mattie Schneider who died in August, 1999. Mattie was the founder and long-time owner of Strikemaster Manufacturing, which produces duckpins. Mattie was a wonderful person and avid supporter of the National Duckpin Youth Association. The Duckpin Bowling Proprietors of America and National Duckpin Youth Association established this award to honor Mattie's memory.
