Acknowledgments As prayer is the focal point of this journal, I must reflect on the many who have influenced my life in this hidden and holy dimension. I received Jesus on Mother’s Day, 1972 due to the persistent prayers of my saintly mother with whom I share a name, Frances Anfuso. During her most fruitful decade of prayer, while in her 70’s, she prayed four or more hours a day for hundreds of saved and unsaved people around the world. All of her children, Victor, Diana, Maria, Joseph and I, love Jesus today because of her faithful intercession for our lost souls. Mom, we owe you an eternal debt of gratitude, and we long to run across the hills of Heaven to greet you. I have also been blessed to marry a wise, prayerful woman of God named Suzie. I cherish our prayer walks together, Sweetheart! Your prayers have kept me sane and healthy and steadied the lives of the daughters who are honored to call you Mom. One day your grandchildren will tell their children about their godly grandma who never failed to show them Jesus. I recall two significant intercessory seasons from early in my Christian life influenced by godly figures. The first belongs to Aubrey and Dillion Blankenship, who opened their home to all-night prayer meetings. Watching the sun come up on our knees is a cherished memory. The second season was with my dear friend, Lou Engle, who has pioneered prayer for an entire generation. Our humble prayer times in a musty room with discarded furniture provide perhaps the most authentic glimpse into the lives of the many nameless and faceless intercessors throughout the ages. One day they will receive the true reward for their labors. The greatest prayer influence in my life over the past decade has been IHOP (International House of Prayer) in Kansas City, Missouri. Hardly a morning passes when I do not go to ihop. org and tap into its artesian well of live worship and prayer. In

particular, I so appreciate the prayer and worship ministries of Mike Bickle and Misty Edwards. Thank you Mike and Misty. I am a different man today because of your service. On a local level, the prayer sentries who have manned our RHOP (Rock House of Prayer) have done so at much personal cost. The Simeon and Anna of our HOP are Nick and Diane Parnell. You have waited for the coming of the Lord, and will not be disappointed. Our chief musician, Matt Trask, labors ceaselessly to escort us into God’s presence. Thank you Matt! Your calming, consistent gift has under girded our longing to touch Jesus. My son-in-law, Ben Cunnington, brought his musical gift and focused heart to our church family. Ben, you have waited patiently to use your intercessory grace within a local church, which is so rare and yet so needed. (Plus, you gave Suzie and me three of our six precious grandchildren.) Finally, two of my great editorial champions are back at it again. Kathy Kunde and Betty Price, I am always amazed at your perceptions, additions, and corrections. You are brilliant, godly women, a combination that is rare, but so needed. Lastly, to all of you who have seen my frail heart and flawed life and prayed for me, I send my love and appreciation. On countless occasions I have awakened to the jolting realization: someone is praying for me. God knows how grateful I am for your caring support.

Prayer is birthing! Prayer focuses our spirit, mind, will and emotions around the struggle to connect the issue on our heart with our ultimate purpose—the issue on God’s heart. It draws our scattered feelings into the deepest part of who we are created to be. When we are shallow, God seems far away! When we get real, God draws near! Even more amazingly, when, through humility, our spirit breaks, God breaks with us! It is for that reason that God led me on a 40-day fast while writing the prayers for this journal, which proved infinitely more difficult than anything else I have written. Why? Because touching the heart of God requires brutal honesty, and that level of truthfulness is always painful. We all try to avert the epicenter of pain and concern. Touch a painful part of your body and it will naturally flinch. The same is true for your soul. In the end, unwillingness to pay the price of brutal honesty results in boring, distracted and uninspired prayers. If, on the other hand, touching God is more about bearing our heart, and revealing His heart than protecting ourselves, He will heal us and we will feel a depth of protection and peace far exceeding anything we could ever manufacture. It is not nearly as difficult to go high as it is to go deep. I can jump a foot off the ground quite easily; but to dig a foot deep through the hard soil of a self-protecting, un-trusting heart, now that’s difficult. God asked the prophet Hosea to marry a prostitute to demonstrate Israel’s infidelity with other gods. Hosea, of all people, would certainly know the rigidity of hard soil. That is why he pleads so vehemently, “Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that He may come and shower righteousness upon you.” Breaking up the unopened, unbroken, unrepentant parts of our heart are the hardest of all spiritual practices. It is why true revival is rare, and true repentance is sparse.

7

I have spent weeks writing the prayers in this journal: praying, writing, re-working each word, phrase and perspective until it flowed from my heart to God’s and back again. As you write your own “My Prayer,” may you be willing to pay the price of birthing prayer yourself. Prayer is a dance! My wife loves to dance. She loves being swept off her feet, out of the mundane dimensions of life, into an unexpected romantic adventure. To truly dance is to float uninhibitedly above all pressure, all stress, all problems. This carefree state of mind unlocks the spirit and liberates the soul. True prayer is a dance! It sets us free of cares yet keeps us from carelessness. We inhabit heavenly places, while focusing, like never before, on the battles of Earth. The temporary dimension of Earth is seen for what it is. What would typically be exhausting now invigorates. God has entered the room! We stand effortlessly to honor Him! We kneel humbly to entreat Him! We lift our hands in exhilaration to celebrate Him! We bow in adoration! He has captured our heart! Those who have mastered the art and heart of prayer can spend hours in the presence of God. They glide across the dance floor, as the One who gave His life leads. His concerns have now become their concerns. I’m always amazed at how my wife flows as we dance, even though I lack ability. The fact that prayer is hard work at times reveals how important it is. But it should never be constant work. At some point, if our heart is right, and our method is effective, then our worship, prayer and even intercession will flow like cascading water. It rushes and rolls, swirls and surges, gushing and gliding over every inch of our soul. We dance with our Creator. We witness the value of His heart and the depths of His love. It is what He created us to do with Him—dance in worship, prayer and intercession. It is what we will do with Him throughout eternity. 8

As you read my prayers and write your own, enjoy the dance. You were made for it. Like striking spiritual gold, nothing else compares. While reading and meditating on the scriptures and prayers, remember: you have nothing better, nothing more important, no activity more exciting than dancing with the lover of your soul. “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come.’ Let anyone who hears this say, ‘Come.’ Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.” We were created to drink in God’s living water! We were created to dance! Francis Anfuso October 2011

Courage

The Gurkhas of Nepal are a people renowned as fearless fighters. One day, during a war, they were asked if they would be willing to jump from airplanes into combat. The Gurkhas didn't understand what was involved, but they bravely agreed to do it, requesting only that the planes fly slowly over a swampy area and no higher than 100 feet. When they were told that their parachutes wouldn’t have time to open from that height, the Gurkhas replied, “Oh, you didn't mention that we’d have parachutes!” That’s courage! It makes us brave and willing to give everything, even our lives. You may never train a lion, but there’s one thing you need to train, and that’s your soul! Each day I try to train my soul to embrace every second of my God-intended life. From God’s point of view, all days are created equal. There is no best day in Heaven. A perfect God has flawlessly crafted every molecule and every moment of my life. If I’m attached to my dream for my life, it will slip through my fingers. If I embrace God’s plan, I can begin to live the pleasures of eternal life right now. Train your soul, your mind, your will, and your emotions to embrace the long-term value of every circumstance in your life. After Joshua assumed Moses’ leadership, God encouraged him, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”1 Paul said, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”2 He was courageous! He was committed! He had trained His soul to trust God.

IDENTITY — Courage Scripture: 1Corinthians 16:13 (NLT) “Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.” Identity Prayer “Lord, you define who I am. I was created to be courageous, fearless—even as bold as a lion. Give me such confidence in who You are that I can face whatever seemingly insurmountable challenges come my way. Help me to believe that, by Your grace, I can overcome all fear. My future belongs to You! I belong to You! Therefore, my future is as bright as Yours.”

DESTINY — Courage Scripture: Psalm 37:5 (NKJV)

“Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” Destiny Prayer “Father God, I believe my true identity in You will lead me to my destiny. I have been created in Your image and likeness to do Your will. Give me the humility I need to accept the script You have written for me. Give me boldness when it comes to being and doing all that is in Your heart for me. Nothing else will satisfy my longing for significance, for my hope is in You alone.”

Deliverance From Evil

Do you know your enemy? He knows you! I’m not talking about humans...they’re not our enemies! I’m talking about enemies in the spirit realm. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”3 Your enemy doesn't have to beat you, he only has to bluff you. He’s not looking for a fight. He’s looking for a flaw. But don’t be discouraged because you have an enemy! Without enemies we don't have a future because we’re only rewarded for the enemy we conquer. Without Goliath we would never have heard of David. Every time we delay a battle, we postpone a victory. An enemy can do for us in one day what friends could not do for us in a lifetime. So...how do we get the attention of a God who’s seen everything? Demonstrate something that He doesn't see that often? Present someone who is fully persuaded that God is greater than any enemy we face? “...He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”4 Trust God alone, and don’t bow to fear! Pray as Jesus did, “don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.”5 Your existence proves God saw a battle only you could fight and that, by His grace, you could win. “...we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”6 (Some principles in this section have been extracted from the teachings of Dr. Mike Murdock.)

IDENTITY — Deliverance From Evil Scripture: Psalm 56:13 (NKJV)

“For You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?” Identity Prayer “Lord Jesus, I know that I am prone to wander. My heart is easily led astray. Please watch over me, holding me accountable to walk in the light of Your Word. Intercept those thoughts and attitudes that are contrary to Your best for me. ‘The fool trusts in his own heart.’7 I don’t want to be fooled, but be found faithful to cling to Your truth that alone will set me free.”8

DESTINY — Deliverance From Evil Scripture: 2Corinthians 11:3 (ESV) “But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.” Destiny Prayer “Lord, I know the enemy of my soul roams about seeking whom he may devour. I don’t want to be ignorant of his devices; instead, I want to be steadfast in doing the will of the Father. As You conquered sin and death and resisted the devil until he fled, may You give me the grace and power to do the same.”

Depression Just as beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, so is bondage. I have a choice in how I see and live my life. No one and no situation can force me to be depressed or discouraged—angry or bitter. These flawed responses to life are in my court. I can allow them as companions, or dismiss them as the distractions they really are. Every situation in my life is an opportunity to see the miraculous, saving hand of God. I can live with excited anticipation of how God is going to deliver me out of my predicaments, or I can fret waiting for the other shoe to fall. I choose to see my life from God’s point of view. If I then sprinkle my heart with a little faith, I will be in a position to add what will bring a smile to my life—joy. Faith is the miraculous ingredient that activates true joy in each of our lives. Happiness waits to see what will happen, whereas joy blissfully welcomes every moment, choosing in advance to see life from God’s viewpoint. Joy comes in the morning, before anything has happened to make us happy! We can opt to let fear or worry come in the morning or perhaps even depression and disappointment. If we so desire, we can invite discouragement for breakfast, take hopelessness out to lunch, and join despair for a candlelight dinner. It’s always our choice! Will you step out in faith? Will you choose joy today?

IDENTITY — Depression Scripture: 2Corinthians 7:6 (AMP)

“But God, Who comforts and encourages and refreshes and cheers the depressed and the sinking, comforted and encouraged and refreshed and cheered us.” Identity Prayer “Lord, in the past I have given in to depression. I never want to go to that land of unbelief and fear again. You have called me to live in confidence believing You are greater than the struggles I face. Therefore, I set my face to gaze upon Yours. Give me the conviction to trust and rest no matter what I see and feel. You will never disappoint me. Help me to believe this without wavering.”

DESTINY — Depression Scripture: 2Corinthians 11:3 (ESV) “But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.”

Difficulties Are you facing major trials? Feel like giving up? Please don’t! Trials are meant to bring out the best in us, not the worst. They throw the pass beyond our reach but not beyond God’s intent and grace. It isn’t an accident when we feel completely inadequate to meet our own needs. God’s the only one who can redeem every dimension of our lives. When you’re struggling, continually reach out to Jesus to receive the grace you need. Oswald Chambers writes, “God does not give us overcoming life: He gives us life as we overcome.” The discouragements of yesterday don’t disqualify you, the setbacks of today can’t sabotage you, and the failures of tomorrow won’t finish you. You were created to be victorious...to overcome.9 A missionary in Africa was asked if he really liked what he was doing. His response was extraordinary. “Do I like this work? No! My wife and I don’t like dirt. We don’t like crawling into vile huts through goat refuse. We don’t like the heat and the disease. And we don’t like being away from our loved ones and all of the conveniences of home. But, are we to do only those things for Jesus that we like to do? Liking or disliking has nothing to do with it. We’re called to ‘Go,’ and we go. Love compels us!” God is love. That’s who He is. And whatever He asks us to do will be motivated by His nature...His love. What’s God asking you to do today? Live your purpose!

question How do you tend to improperly process your difficulties? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________

IDENTITY — Difficulties Scripture: Psalm 91:1–2 (NASB) “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!’” Identity Prayer “God, you are greater than my difficulties. Help me to believe this. You are forging me into a new person, no longer tossed back and forth by my difficulties, but solidly planted upon the rock of Your promises and provision. As You overcame, You have created me to be an overcomer. I will stand waiting, trusting, and believing that Your grace is sufficient for this and every moment.”

DESTINY — Difficulties Scripture: John 16:32 (MSG)

“Jesus said, ‘In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.’” Destiny Prayer “Lord Jesus, You faced difficulties that I cannot even imagine when You became sin for me, when You were separated by that sin from Your Father in Heaven, and when you died an excruciating death on the Cross. As You had joy while withstanding those difficulties, give me the joyful assurance I need to stand in all seasons. Let me have complete faith that you will always protect my fragile life.”

Disappointments Are you experiencing setbacks? Why do our hearts melt when tested? Is it because we fear what we don’t know, or because we fail to trust the God who knows all things? Research has proven that no one drowns gracefully. Human nature struggles to stay afloat. At times, accepting unmet expectations, with true humility, is the only good option. Being humbled by life is always awkward, even embarrassing. But if we trust God in the struggle, it eventually yields the eternal fruit of a fully blessed life. I want to enthusiastically wade through disappointments. Paul the apostle understood this when he wrote, “now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ.”10 Trust God! He’ll never fail you! One of the most knowledgeable men I know once told me, “Heavy winters bring more bountiful summers.” Hmm? The fiercer the winter, the more fruitful the summer! We all appreciate spring flowers and summer fruit, but the fading of fall and the tempest of winter create the most abundant harvests. Our inability to fully appreciate the storms of life merely demonstrates how shortsighted we are. An over-dependence upon temporary satisfaction usually leads to future disappointment. God has no desire to give you peace FROM the storms of life. His plan is to give you peace IN the storm. Peace that comes when the storm stops is temporary. Learning to embrace God’s peace during the storm: that’s the goal. So, the next time you encounter a storm, respond well. A wonderful harvest is just around the bend.

question What disappointments do you need God to help you with? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________

IDENTITY — Disappointments Scripture: Psalm 22:5 (AMP) “They cried to You and were delivered; they trusted in, leaned on, and confidently relied on You, and were not ashamed or confounded or disappointed.” Identity Prayer “Lord, why do I focus my hopes and dreams on that which will inevitably disappoint? Only Your will can lead to eternal fulfillment—never to disappointment. Only Your plans solve the riddle for my life. My expectations will invariably end in disillusionment. So I will set my affections on things above and not on things of the Earth.11 I pray that Your will would become my desire. I want to believe that every seeming disappointment is really a divine appointment prepared just for me.”

DESTINY — Disappointments Scripture: Psalm 25:2 (AMP) “O my God, I trust, lean on, rely on, and am confident in You. Let me not be put to shame or [my hope in You] be disappointed; let not my enemies triumph over me.”

Destiny Prayer “Heavenly Father, You are a faithful Dad. Many of our earthly fathers promised but then disappointed. I know You are not like that. It is not Your nature to abandon or reject, to promise and not deliver. Whatever You promise, You will fulfill. Therefore, I reject the lies that attack my mind saying my future with You will eventually lead to disappointment. What a lie! The truth is that there is nothing about You or Your will that could ever disappoint.”

Dying to Self Do you feel like the rug has been pulled out from under you? When God's at work in our lives, He prunes away what is dead and dying! When it's a vast, eternal work, He uses bulldozers. At times, the experience can be so overwhelming we think we’ll never recover! But don't fear. In time, old fruit orchards are pulled up and new ones are planted. All for our good! When you notice dead dimensions in your heart, let Jesus prune them away. Let Him trim the refuse. Let Him remove what has no lasting value and will only weigh you down. Soon you will rebound from your winter to bask among the sweet fruit of a fully surrendered life and to reflect on your worthwhile winter. God is committed to establishing our internal, long-term health. Therefore, He cuts away attachments to Earth, even those appearing healthy, in order to produce eternal fruit. This is His destiny for our life. Be attached only to Jesus. The Bible says, “As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as His own children.”12 For a few short years you may not see fruit. But get ready. Around the bend, in God’s perfect time, you will notice an abundant and plentiful harvest. You will be a different person, transformed by responding well to God’s work. The Bible promises, “Let nothing move you...because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”13

IDENTITY — Dying to Self Scripture: Matthew 16:24 (NKJV)

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.’” Identity Prayer “Lord, I believe it is in dying to myself that I will learn to live in the fullness of the resurrection life You promised. Only You can fill that which is empty in me. Alter my affections so that You are the only Person I cannot live without. For You are the one I long for.”

DESTINY — Dying to Self Scripture: Galatians 2:20 (NKJV)

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Destiny Prayer “Jesus, You died to Your own will every day and every moment You were on this Earth. So I ask that You, Holy Spirit, would please come and live in me as You lived in Jesus, guiding me through the dying process. Only then can I truly live as You intended. Help me to see the dying process as the gift it truly is.”

Failure

Have you been feeling sorry for yourself lately? I'm reminded of an old Chippewa Indian saying that my twin brother, Joseph, once told me: “Sometimes I go about feeling sorry for myself, and all the time I'm being carried by great winds across the sky.” Life has not cheated us! And none of our regrets are worth dwelling on! The greatest lessons in life come from learning to properly respond to perceived failures or losses. God is able to use setbacks for good as we trust Him. Instead of sinking me, the pressures in my life actually anchor me to the One who loves me. I may see my life as an adventure or a disaster. I choose adventure. Not because it's easy or because I know what's ahead, but because I've seen the faithfulness of the One who holds my future. Paul the Apostle was in so much pain he begged God to take it away. But God told him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”14 What was Paul's response? He got it! He said, “Then I'll just boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me”15 God the Father is most glorified in us when we are most fruitful in Him. That’s why Jesus came, not to hand us the life of our dreams, but to offer the life of His dreams. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”16 If you and I let God determine what His abundant life looks like, we’ll never be disappointed. The truth is that every irritation is a divine invitation to become more like Jesus. Each of us has been blessed beyond measure. Jesus, open my eyes to see how You are carrying me...even now!

IDENTITY — Failure Scripture: Romans 3:23–24 (NLT)

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” Identity Prayer “Father God, even though I have failed, You have not created me to be a failure. You bore my failures in Your broken body when You died in my place on the Cross of Calvary. Give me faith to receive Your gift of repentance and forgiveness—to rise above the failures of yesterday, joyfully anticipating the victories of tomorrow. In Jesus’ name, Amen!”

DESTINY — Failure Scripture: Psalm 32:5 (MSG)

“Then I let it all out; I said, 'I'll make a clean breast of my failures to God.' Suddenly the pressure was gone— my guilt dissolved, my sin disappeared.” Destiny Prayer “Faithful Father, You have covered my failures with the blood of Your Son, Jesus. For only Christ’s blood can cleanse me from my sins. As You expressed Your approval over Him on many occasions, help me to believe that you smile on me as well. As much as You loved Jesus, You love me. Your destiny for my life is perfectly scripted to eclipse all of my failures. I believe this and rest in Your perfect will.”

Faith

Instead of praying for things to work out, what if you prayed to be content? No one knows what “things working out” looks like. Only God does. Pray to be satisfied with whatever Jesus provides for you. That satisfaction demonstrates, more than anything else, that you trust God. It's called faith! Faith alone pleases God and activates His best for your life. I've never known what's best, but I'm learning to trust that God always does. Nothing outside of God's promises and desires for me will bring about the satisfaction I long for. Don't think of your life as a disaster when God wants to make it an adventure. Once you see your life in this way, you'll look forward to it each and every day. Everything of God must be received by faith. I need the same amount of faith to embrace the life God gives me as I needed to embrace the God who saved me. It takes no faith to say, “God has not given me a life worth living.” On the other hand, it takes great faith to believe the truth: “God can only give me a life worth loving.” I love my life because it's a gift from God. When I first received Jesus, I was so elated I thought I'd never touch ground. But within a month, the emotions began to fade. God wanted me to develop spiritual muscles: to walk by faith, not feelings! To fully trust Him, put your faith in the truth of God's Word. It alone will last forever.17

question In what area do you want God to strengthen your faith? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________

IDENTITY — Faith Scripture: Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Identity Prayer “Lord, as I read Your Word, I ask that You would increase my faith. Help me believe all You created me to be and experience all of the gifts You desire me to receive. As faith works through love, fill my heart with Your love for me, and then in turn give me Your love for others.”

DESTINY — Faith Scripture: John 14:12 (ESV)

Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” Destiny Prayer “Jesus, You were tested in every area that challenges me. Yet You rose to receive faith to move mountains, conviction to raise the dead, vision to set captives free, and hope to heal the sick and deliver the oppressed. You overcame every spiritual enemy that tried to quiet You, deceive You, or destroy You. Please give me this same victorious faith that I may live as You lived.”

Fear

Do you have trouble enjoying the present because you’re afraid of the future? After World War II, millions of orphans throughout Europe were gathered into camps to be housed and fed. Though their physical needs were met, the orphans still couldn’t sleep. Finally, the solution came. Every night, when the children went to bed, a small piece of bread was placed in their hands. So whenever they woke in the night, they would be assured of food the next day. Soon the children were sleeping great. Their past experience conditioned them to feel hopeless for tomorrow. But hopelessness was far from the truth. What worry keeps you from resting? God’s promised us a future and a hope if we will trust Him.18 Throughout your day, hold on to the bread of life, God’s Word. You’ll find the rest you’re looking for. If we face our fears, they'll dissolve. If we bow to them, they'll become bondages, strongholds, and even generational curses. If you want to be healed, you'll need to walk in God's love, forgiveness, comfort, and power. God's love covers. His grace forgives. His Spirit comforts and empowers us to be fully healed: spirit, body, and soul. Time doesn't heal. Jesus does. Look to Him first in the challenges of life. He'll never disappoint you. With a clear view of life’s past hurdles, the only appropriate response to a loving God is “thank you” a million times over.

question What fears do you need to overcome? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________

IDENTITY — Fear Scripture: Romans 8:15 (NLT)

“So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when He adopted you as His own children. Now we call Him, 'Abba, Father.'” Identity Prayer “Lord Jesus, You have not given me the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound, clear mind. When I am confronted with fear, I know it does not come from You, for You always motivate me with love and not fear. There is no fear in love, and You are a God who is love.19 Help me not to succumb to fear, but stand in faith representing and pleasing You in all that I say and do.”

DESTINY — Fear Scripture: 2Timothy 1:7 (AMP)

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.” Destiny Prayer “Jesus, You told me not to fear man who can kill my temporary body, but fear God who can put my soul in hell for ever and ever.20 I, therefore, refuse to bow to the fear of man which is a trap, but instead I bow in humility and reverence to You, most holy God Who rules the Universe.”

Forgiveness

Have you been severely wounded? At one time or another, all of us will be. But, at some point, we’ll have to decide: are we on a healing journey? Or would we rather remain a patient. We may be hurt, but are we more committed to restoration, or to reminiscing? When we hold on to a bitter perspective, we become unwilling to understand, forgive, and be healed. A far better choice is to exchange your pain for His peace—to allow God to have His way. We were created to meet Jesus in the midst of storms. Frankly, few of us have time for Him outside of life’s storms. If you let Him, God will give you the “peace that goes far beyond your understanding.”29 How do you recover when someone hurts you? If your goal is to understand with a humble heart, you will be healed. But, if you refuse to budge, preferring to nurse the hurt, then your pain will only deepen. Our attitude may clearly indicate what we're most committed to: stewing or healing, remembering or reconciling. Jesus suffered and died so that we could become completely whole inside. He gave explicit requirements regarding forgiveness. “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.”30 Receiving healing is a life-long process but worth every minute. So “be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”31

IDENTITY — Forgiveness Scripture: Matthew 6:14 (MSG) “In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others.” Identity Prayer “Lord, You have made my forgiving others a prerequisite for my own forgiveness. As I do not deserve Your forgiveness, they may not deserve mine. But as You graciously forgive me, I will choose to forgive them. Please help me to forgive as completely as You do.”

DESTINY — Forgiveness Scripture: Psalm 103:3 (MSG)

“He forgives your sins—every one. He heals your diseases— every one.” Destiny Prayer “Jesus, as it was Your destiny to forgive me of my sins, so it is my destiny to forgive others of theirs. Only then can I be most Christ-like, expressing the heart and spirit of forgiveness that You have toward me. I now repeat the words that You said over my rebellious life, ‘Father forgive them for they did not know what they were doing.’”32

Frustrations

Do you feel like you’ve been short-changed by God, or over-paid? The answer to this question will affect not only how you process your past, but also how you view your future. Has God given me a raw deal? Or have I merely misinterpreted the opportunities He’s sent my way? God’s Word says He’s given each of us, “everything we need to live a godly, fulfilled life.” None of us have been short-changed. We’ve been shortsighted! The God who sent His only Son to die in our place has always given us His best. I once read about an elderly American woman who died of starvation alone in her apartment because she didn’t have any money. Yet when the police examined her belongings, they found over $100,000 in cash buried inside the mattress on which she died. She forgot what she had! Amazing gifts have been buried deep within us. Remember them! Extraordinary opportunities are all around! What have you overlooked that’s right in front? Ask God to show you! “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. But we know these things because God has revealed them to us by his spirit...” Let God show you His gifts! As you wade through life’s circumstances, resist the temptation to rejoice in only the opportunities that please you. The truly successful followers of God have learned to eat the meals placed before them with grateful hearts. The Bible says, “In everything give thanks.” Rejoicing forever...starts now!

IDENTITY — Frustrations Scripture: Romans 8:20 (AMP)

“For the creation (nature) was subjected to frailty (to futility, condemned to frustration), not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of Him Who so subjected it— [yet] with the hope...” Identity Prayer “Lord, give me faith to believe the impossible, because sooner or later it is what I will face. When I encounter insurmountable challenges, help me not to react in frustration or fear, but in faith. Why should I be frustrated when my plans fail? Let me learn that only Your plans succeed, in Your way and Your time. My future is as bright as Your plans for me.”

DESTINY — Frustrations Scripture: 2Corinthians 5:1A (MSG)

“Sometimes we can hardly wait to move—and so we cry out in frustration. Compared to what's coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we're tired of it! We've been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies! Destiny Prayer “Jesus, I know that frustration does not move mountains, only faith does. So please give me the faith I need to overcome every obstacle, reject all fear, and see Your plan as You have designed it. By Your grace, I will live in faith and not frustration. Quiet my soul when it refuses to rest and trust, for You are my only hope. I believe that by Your grace, I will learn to overcome.”

Guidance In my 18 years of globetrotting the world, I flew in many small private planes and was able to talk with pilots about their training. One of the first things pilots are taught is to read their gauges and trust their instruments more than their feelings or senses. I’ve flown in thick clouds and dense fog where I couldn’t see a thing. At those moments of flying blind, I’m glad the pilots trusted their instruments. Unless you and I trust the flawless instrument of God’s Word, we’ll make decisions based on our senses. Don’t come to eternal conclusions based on what you see; trust what God sees. It’s the only way you will ever be completely safe. Whenever you find yourself wondering why something's happening, realize it's never a coincidence. Invariably, God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey Him and the power to do what pleases Him.26 Actually, “why” is typically the wrong question; “what” is the question we should be asking.”God, what are you showing me?” I don’t know what’s best for me. I never have and never will. I don’t even know enough to have a strong personal preference. Spending my days wishing things would work out is an enormous waste of my time. The smartest thing I can do is to remain neutral: no bias, fully flexible, and yielded only to the will of God. If we love God and are committed to doing His will, He promises us in Romans 8:28 that all things, no matter how much they hurt, will work for our good, either on Earth or in Heaven. That's a promise God will keep.

King Solomon wrote, “you've given me a staggering task, ruling this mob of people. Healing of Past Are you riding an emotional roller coaster? One moment you’re overcoming, and the next you’re being overcome. The psalmist wrote, “I am overcome with joy because of Your unfailing love, for You have seen my troubles, and You care about the anguish of my soul.”28 It seems that we have a choice to be overcome by joy or by despair. If there were nothing to overcome, we'd have no occasion to feel joy. Like ripened fruit, it would just fall from the trees of life. But that’s not the case. At times we may need to battle fears and doubts, lies and circumstances in order to receive the joy God has prepared. Whatever it is, fight for joy. It’s absolutely worth fighting for! Whether we like it or not, we must look back long and deep enough into our past to allow God’s healing. The longer we resist acknowledging our pain, the longer its repercussion may continue. If we refuse to address it, then the abused may become the abuser, and the neglected may become the neglecter. Look back through the healing eyes of a Creator who was with us during every horrific moment. Only He can heal the years of turmoil and brokenness. He will transform our tortured memories into bridges of healing and hope, not just for ourselves, but also for those He will send our way. And the best news is: this is His will for you.

DESTINY — Healing of Past Scripture: Isaiah 53:5 (NLT)

“But He (Jesus) was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.” Destiny Prayer “God, I believe that my destiny is to help heal others in the same way You have healed me. Please make my healing complete. If it takes years, even decades, then so be it. Do not allow me to respond to others through my own hurts, but rather through a desire to see them healed and set free. Impossible Prayers

Are you facing the impossible? The fact that something is impossible actually places it in the “Maybe It Is God?” column. As Hudson Taylor, the great missionary to China, often said, “I have found that there are three stages in every great work of God. First it is impossible. Then it is difficult. Then it is done.” When Igor Sikorsky was 12 years old, his parents told him that experts had proven human flight was impossible. Years later, after Igor had invented the helicopter, he put this sign in his assembly plant: “According to recognized aero technical tests, the bumblebee cannot fly because of the shape and weight of his body in relation to the total wing area. The bumblebee, however, doesn't know this; so he goes ahead and flies anyway.” Faith laughs at the impossible! If we look at the storms of life, it’s hard to visualize our dreams taking flight. If we look to Jesus, we’ll be able to rise above any obstacle. God’s limitless Word, the Bible, is filled with endless promises and possibilities! Trust Jesus for your “today,” and get ready to fly! Many Christians, leaders included, are paralyzed by fear of failure. They'd rather debate and analyze than begin to do something—anything. It can be overwhelming to look at the failure in our lives. Apparent impossibilities inhibit our belief in God's possibilities. Over the years, I've seen the God of the impossible open doors no one can close, and likewise close doors no one can open.33 Trust that He knows which is which. God wants to completely fulfill our lives, but only He knows what true fulfillment looks like.

question What impossible prayers are you seeking answers for? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________

IDENTITY — Impossible Prayers Scripture: Luke 18:27 (NIV)

Jesus replied, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.” God is Jehovah-Jireh, meaning “The Lord Will Provide.” As He provided for Abraham, He will provide for us, the sons of Abraham.33,34

Identity Prayer “Father, You are the God of the impossible. As Your child, You have called me to follow You into impossible situations. So I begin with the premise that I will not limit who I am based upon what I can do, but upon Your limitless power in my life. I will live out the impossible script you have written for me. I know You will provide the faith that I need to become the person You created me to be.”

DESTINY — Impossible Prayers Scripture: Matthew 19:26 (NLT) “When Jesus’ disciples struggled to believe an impossible thought or idea that Jesus proposed, Jesus “looked at them intently and said, 'Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.'” Destiny Prayer “God, at the end of my life, I want to look back and see that though I faced numerous obstacles that seemed immoveable, they were mere stepping stones to You. Intimacy With God If pleasure is the goal in life, then everyone wins something... a measure of pleasure! The devil's happy to give us the pleasures of Connecticut and Vermont Avenues as long as he gets to keep Boardwalk and Park Place. But, if you’ve ever played the board game MONOPOLY, you know that Connecticut and Vermont Avenues are basically worthless, while Boardwalk and Park Place are valuable. The devil offers counterfeit enjoyment through some shallow, momentary pleasure. It's pleasure, minus eternity—a forgery of what we’re created for which is a personal relationship with God. Only God’s way leads to life: “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of Your presence and the pleasures of living with You forever.”36 The pleasure that truly satisfies comes from God alone. Submit to the God of reality and re-enter the relational joy He intended. Anything less than intimacy with our Creator consigns us to aimless toil day after day. This is why so many Christians today are bored to death plodding through predictable trivialities. Having forsaken the spontaneous adventure of walking hand-in-hand with their Maker, they vainly attempt to govern their own lives. Do they settle for a make-believe god because they have never experienced the exhilaration of actually knowing the true God? Or have they become distracted, disillusioned, and have consequently ceased to pursue Him? Give your heart fully to no one but God. His Word challenges: “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”37

Identity Prayer “Lord, I know that I have been created to have a deeply personal relationship with You. Only You can fulfill the deepest longings of my heart. Holy Spirit, I invite You to fill my soul and spirit with Your presence. I want to give You Your rightful place as the Lord and God of my life. May communion and intimacy with You grow, so that wherever I go, Your Spirit fills, overflows, and leads my life.”

DESTINY — Intimacy with God Scripture: Philippians 3:8 (NLT)

“Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ.” Destiny Prayer “One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life.’38 Lord Jesus, this prayer of David is my prayer as well. Lack of Joy Do you feel like your life has been shattered? If so, there’s only one cure, a three-letter word: joy! You could describe joy as “a deep sense of inner satisfaction that comes from seeing our lives from God’s perspective, and responding properly to the challenges and suffering of life.” The Bible says our lives can be “perfect, complete, and lack nothing” if we count it all joy when we fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of our faith produces patience.39 Things coming up roses won’t make us perfect, complete, and lacking nothing; at times we must allow situations to come up thorns. If we then respond properly to life’s trials, they will produce the faith and patience that pleases God and ultimately—an eternal joy.Everyone wants to be happy. But joy is more about a state of mind and happiness about things working out. A man in his 90s lost his wife of 60 years. Checking into a nursing home, an attendant described his new room to him. The man replied, “I love it.” The attendant laughed and said, “But you haven't even seen it yet.” Without missing a beat the man shot back, “That has nothing to do with it. Happiness is something you decide ahead of time.” What an extraordinary response! I’ve found that happiness is not having what you want; it’s wanting what you have. That’s why happiness is available to everyone. It’s just a new perspective away. The Bible agrees. “...be exceedingly joyful in all…tribulation...”40 Today, be grateful for what you have. Only Jesus can quench the thirst He created in you.

Lack of Peace Are you at peace? True peace only comes from one Person: God Himself, the Prince of Peace.46 Jesus offers peace no one else can provide. He says, “My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.”47 In fact, peace without the holiness of Christ will lead to appeasement without principle. The Bible tells us to, “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.”48 We won’t see God move, or understand His intent, unless we follow His road to peace through Jesus Christ. If we compromise genuine holiness, we wind up with counterfeit peace. True peace never conflicts with the truth of God's Word, and always accompanies a place of inner rest and safety, no matter what’s happening around us. Learning to trust God accesses the peace of mind that seems impossible to attain. Yet it's always within arm’s reach of faith. Believe God for the impossible, not with presumption, based on the desires of your own heart, but with real faith. Real faith is grounded upon the sublime plan of God, who knows all things, infinitely loves us, and enacts His wisdom for our good. Jesus said, “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.” 49It may be hard to believe, but we are as loved by the Father as Jesus was. He longs for us to remain in constant connection with His unconditional love. Only then can we process life as God intended.

Love of God If you hear nothing else today, hear this: character comes only from receiving the love of God. All attempts to change without first realizing and accepting God’s love will consign you to a life based on self-performance. Without knowing God's love, our lives eventually become devoid of the fulfillment found only in knowing our Creator. If we reject God's love, we will vainly try to remake ourselves into an image of this fallen world. In the end it will all be for nothing. “This is real love...not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”54 Because He already knows everything you'll ever do, either God has always loved you, or He has never loved you. He doesn't just see a few random moments of your life. He sees its entirety! The good news is God is madly in love with you! No matter who you are. No matter what you've done! He loves you with an everlasting love.55 God doesn't love us more when we're good, nor does He love us less when we're bad. Why? Because even in our lowest moments God fully differentiates between who we are and what we've done. He not only loves us unconditionally and forgives us eternally, but God likes us so completely His heart smiles every time He thinks of us—and He thinks of us constantly.

question How have you experienced the love of God? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________

IDENTITY — Love of God Scripture: 1John 4:10 (NLT)

“This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” Identity Prayer “God, You are love! You fully loved me before I even existed. No one could love me with an everlasting love like You have purposed to love me.56 Though my weak love for You does not compare to Your endless love for me, I know that I have been created in love—to love! Help me to reject the enemy’s lies and receive Your unwavering heart of love for me.”

DESTINY — Love of God Scripture: 1Corinthians 13:13 (MSG) “But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadilyin God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.”

Destiny Prayer “Jesus, I know there is nothing I could ever do to make You love me more. Nor is there anything I could ever do to make You love me less. Your heart completely loves me, not based on anything I have done or could do, but based upon Your destiny for my life. Therefore, I live grateful to You for Your unconditional love for me.”

Loving Others A friend was driving on a cold, rainy day, when he saw a barefoot man walking a puppy. He said to himself, “He’s crazy!” Then he thought: “Maybe he’s not barefoot by choice.” God encouraged my friend to go back. He responded, “OK Lord, if this is really You, his shoe size will be my size...11.” Finding him rummaging through garbage cans, the homeless man shared how his pup chewed his sandals, and he was looking for bottles to redeem for another pair. My friend asked, “What size do you wear?” You guessed it, size 11. The barefoot man’s eyes welled with tears as he received socks and shoes. My friend then reached through the window and gave him a big hug. That moment made both their days. True love is the most powerful emotion of all and is perhaps seen most clearly in man’s best friend. In Edinburgh, Scotland there’s a statue of a small Scottish Terrier. The dog’s master died when his pet was two years old. But the dog followed the funeral procession to the gravesite. After everyone had gone and the grave was covered, the little dog crawled to the foot of the grave as if to wait for his master's return. The dog waited and waited through all kinds of weather and unbelievable ordeals. People would capture the dog and take him home, but he repeatedly escaped and returned to the foot of the grave to continue the vigil. The dog waited until his own death, 14 years later. If a little dog can be devoted to a dead master, how much more should we be devoted to Jesus by loving others?

IDENTITY — Loving Others Scripture: 1Corinthians 13:3 (MSG)

“If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don't love, I've gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love.” Identity Prayer “Father God, You loved me when I was Your enemy. When Jesus came to Earth He not only taught the revolutionary principle ‘love your enemies’, He lived it until His last breath.57 Lord, pour that same selfless love into my own heart that others may see Your life and character in me.”

DESTINY — Loving Others Scripture: 2Corinthians 1:3–4 (NLT)

“God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” Destiny Prayer “Jesus, as You flawlessly modeled how to live in love when You were on this Earth, please help me live as You lived. My heart is often so selfish that many times I am a poor reflection of Your lavish love. Please do whatever it takes to help me live as You lived, and love as You loved.”

Man’s vs. God’s Will Being attached to my will can be really dangerous. I’ve never known what’s best for me. Only God does. Sure, I’ve been attached to lots of things and even to people I thought I desperately needed. But they weren’t what I was really looking for. What I really wanted was God! Now, my overwhelming preference in life is to fully embrace God’s will. Every day, I choose to wake up excited to see what My Heavenly Father has picked out for me. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him. But we know these things because God has revealed them to us by His Spirit…”58 In life there are no shortcuts, only detours. Even if we’re momentarily pleased by one of life’s circumstances, it’ll be short-lived. May we each accept this: God desires to change us, not change the world around us. In life, if we can’t appreciate the present, we’ll never be pleased with what's ahead. There’s actually no faster way to get to where your heart wants to be than by accepting and embracing the will of God for your life. It’s the express train to fulfillment! The primary reason we don’t love the life God’s given us is because we don’t know God. We don’t trust Him, and inevitably we begin to play God ourselves. It always ends badly. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.”59 Let God be God!

Maturity A young boy in South Africa once swapped a costly diamond for a few toy soldiers because he was ignorant of what he had. Satan, the enemy of our soul, trifled away his own value, and now attempts to devalue as many other eternal beings as possible. Once known as Lucifer, the anointed worship leader of Heaven traded the priceless for the meaningless, when the love of God was all he would ever need. In the beginning, charisma might get you going, but it'll take character and discernment to keep you going. The only real limitations lie within our own makeup, never in the heart of a loving God. He will gladly fulfill our heart's desire once we fully embrace what's on His heart for us. Would it surprise you if I said that the part of each of us that wishes things would get better is not our friend? Actually, it could be our enemy! I have no idea what “better” looks like, and God has no intention of fulfilling my expectations. But, if I’ll let Him, He does intend to fulfill His expectations through me. The psalmist wrote: “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.”62 The only way that can happen is, “I must decrease, and He must increase.”63 How we respond to life is far more important than what happens to us. Oswald Sanders described it in a slightly different way, “Maturity is moving from a thin skin and a hard heart to a thick skin and a soft heart.”

You’ve solved the king’s mystery.” Identity Prayer “Lord, I know that discernment requires that I see and understand the difference between good and evil, between what is true and what is false. Therefore, I humbly ask You to take the scales from my eyes and the hardness from my heart that I may fully discern what is consistent with Your will—what is best for my life.”

I know Your plans for me are best, so help me to discern Your will. Help me to surrender my attachments, the shallow substitutes of Earth, for the eternal realities of Heaven. Show me Your thoughts. You have promised to give me the mind of Christ.”64

Overwhelmed

Are you facing mountains of pain and discouragement? Does a mass of misery threaten to bankrupt your entire investment in God? Don’t let it! It’s been powerfully said, “Stop telling God how big your mountains are, and start telling your mountains how big your God is.”65 Life always comes to a show down. A standoff! Who’s going to blink first! If God is God, then trust Him! If God is able, then believe Him! The Bible says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God.”66 So what are you going to believe—the size of your mountains, or the size of your God? Be encouraged. Even with faith as little as a mustard seed your mountains can be moved. How often should we die to our ambitions, our self-will, and even ourselves? Resurrection life is only available to dead people. If Jesus had to die to get it, so do we. So how can you tell if you're dead to yourself? This is how: when you're asleep in a boat in the middle of a violent storm. When someone slaps you on one cheek and you turn the other. When all hell's breaking loose outside of you and yet you allow the peace of Heaven to rise up inside you. Resurrection life is only available through Jesus Christ. He conquered sin and death for each of us. Trust in Jesus and you'll never taste death...only everlasting life, not just in Heaven, but right here on Earth.

Either we will be overcome or we shall be overcomers! Perseverance

Do you feel like you're losing the battle for life? Civil War General Stonewall Jackson once said that in battle both sides, at one point, feel defeated. But the one who rises for a final surge wins the day. Such is true in the Christian life. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego prepared their hearts for one final surge of trusting God. They fearlessly told King Nebuchadnezzar that even if God didn't deliver them, they weren't going to worship the king. “Put that in your fiery furnace!” Don't ever say, “But God would never deliver me like that.” If it's in the Book, one way or another, it's on the schedule. King David trusted God and wrote, “This I know, God is for me.”69 Sure, all of us would like our lives to be easier. Yet, as I look back over my life, my consistent appeals for an easier life have not fallen on indifferent ears; the all-knowing, all-caring God has merely dismissed my fleeting petitions as narrow-minded and lacking foresight. He knows the easy life would destroy my potential; therefore, He makes my life purposefully challenging. Only by pressing the olive is the oil extracted. Only by crushing the flower is the true fragrance released. Only as Paul and his companions were “pressed out of measure… insomuch that we despaired even of life” did they experience the “sweet-smelling aroma (and become) an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.70,71

Purpose in Life

Do you need vision for your life? We all need motivation to get out of bed in the morning; a purpose to work hard; a reason to step out in faith; and a fresh start in order to experience what we’ve never experienced before. Initiative is the ability to take the lead, to introduce change and act first. But trying harder won't get you different results. When we’re born again, God gives us new thoughts, a new reason to live, new hopes, and new dreams. But we have to keep asking Him for them. It’s an “ask and it will be given to you” relationship. Don’t hesitate to ask God. He’s got all the vision and purpose you need. When Jesus faced the greatest trials of His life, He didn’t manipulate His Father in Heaven to lighten His load. Instead, Jesus realized that His pain further disclosed His true purpose in life. He once prayed, “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour.’ But for this purpose I came to this hour.”73 He’s saying, “Pain reveals purpose!” Being created in the likeness of God initiated our purpose.74 Finishing that work is our destiny. Anything that keeps us from fulfilling God’s ultimate purpose—being conformed to His image—must be disregarded and treated as a distraction.75 Tragically, most people live and die distracted. Don’t let it happen to you! Be committed to live only His purpose for your life.

Purpose of Pain

Are you resisting the gift of pain? That’s right...the gift of pain! Why do we second-guess the perfect plans of an all-wise Creator? Many times, it’s our shallow understanding that causes us to miss the point and purpose of our challenges. As a result, we needlessly repeat the learning process that was tailor-made just for us. Why experience the same pain twice when you can embrace the value of your pain the first time! Sometimes I naively pray, “Lord, if I just didn’t have so much pain, my life would be great.” But looking back, it’s been pain that’s kept me humble. It’s pain that’s increased my dependency on God. I thank God for the pain that kept me from destroying my life. Pain protects us when we choose to embrace it as a gift! There is no accidental pain in life, just marvelously crafted stretchings that not only bring out the best in us, but once our eyes are opened, also reveal the best of God’s all-wise intentions. Can you even imagine finding pleasure in your pain? Paul the Apostle did! He endorsed this seemingly crazy way of thinking when he wrote: “I am exceedingly joyful in all our tribulation [our pressures, afflictions, burdens and troubles].”76 If the joy that Paul expresses is a correct example of response to life, and if God truly lives in us, then joy should be our response as well. Is it possible to be grieved and joyful simultaneously? Absolutely! You might be brokenhearted that someone has died yet joyful he is in Heaven. You may be saddened your job’s ending but joyfully confident God has something better. Here’s a great recipe for living: ask God to give you His joy and purpose in the middle of your pain.

“Paul the Apostle writes, “Therefore I take pleasure in [think well of, am pleased with] infirmities, in reproaches [insults, hurts] in needs, in persecutions, in distresses [calamities, anguish] for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Identity Prayer “Help me, Lord, not to let the pains of life keep me from trusting You implicitly. I will fasten my heart to the operating table of Your refining will. May I never suppose the pain You allow is pointless. In the end, if I refuse to give up, I will clearly see that what appeared to be coincidental was actually providential.”

DESTINY — Purpose of Pain Scripture: James 1:2–4 (NKJV)

Pursuing Light

You and I have never seen anything eternal with our natural eyes. Similar to the movie, The Matrix, the real world is invisible. It can only be seen with eyes of faith. In order to change the visible realm, we must learn to see the invisible. Make it a goal to discover God's eternal blessings and not succumb to earth's temporary distractions. Our time here is a dress rehearsal. Every aspect of life on Earth is a test. As Jesus prayed to His Father, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.”77 His prayer was heard, and it will be answered. On Earth, men love darkness; yet, the God of light still loves men. Perhaps the greatest miracle that can take place in a person’s heart is the transferring of love for darkness to love for light. If there’s a greater miracle than that, I’ve never seen it. The Bible says, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”78 The very gnawing repetition of darkness causes a craving for light. No one ever spent his last days wishing he had pursued greater darkness. The opposite is true. Are you sick of darkness? Then crave light! Let Jesus shine His life in and through you today! Allow Heaven to come to Earth. Remember, Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.”79 Be that light!

“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, 'God is tempting me.' God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else.”

Identity Prayer “Lord Jesus, I know who I don’t want to be, but don’t always know who I am. The devil wants to destroy my identity, and You want to reveal and establish it. Cover my future with Your protective grace. Deliver me from evil. Let Satan have nothing in me.80 Cause me to repent of sin. I don’t want to hurt those I love; most of all, I don’t want to damage my relationship with You.”

Relationship With God

What’s it going to take to make you and I the complete person we want to be? There was a famous line at the end of a movie when a man finally admits he loves a woman and says, “You complete me!” Wow! That’s romantic! Sensational! It’ll make you cry! But it’s just not true! I love my wife dearly, and she loves me. But I don’t complete her, and she doesn’t complete me. Unless you and I find our completeness in God who created us, we’ll never be complete. In the Book of Colossians, the Bible is crystal clear, “We are complete in Him [in Jesus].”82 I’ve seen people try to find completeness in everything imaginable, but there’s only one thing that works: a daily relationship with Jesus Christ. It changes our heart from the inside out. Only the Creator of all things establishes our purpose: getting to know Him. Religion drove me to atheism, but a personal relationship with Jesus transformed my life. Life’s all about being more committed to knowing God and less concerned with what we think we need from Him. No one wants to be used! Not even God. Focus on abiding in Jesus— not using Him. Paul said, “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised Him from the dead.”83 God knows our needs even before we ask. To parrot the obvious to Him merely demonstrates how little we understand His heart for us. He’s already done more than enough for us to fully trust Him. May our eyes be opened to see Jesus, the lover of our soul, and not just the provider of needs.

Our struggle to love purely somehow captivates Your kind heart. Consequently, we are ever drawn into a deeper relationship with You.”

DESTINY — Relationship With God Scripture: John 14:23 (NIV)

“Jesus replied, 'If anyone loves Me, he will obey My teaching. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.'” Destiny Prayer “God, You alone are the Lover of my soul. Like the prophet Hosea, you have looked past my unstable heart. In the end, Your love will win out. I need only to surrender to its overtures. I was made for Your love, to receive it, and then to share it with a love-starved world. This in turn will provide my greatest joy: freely giving Your love.”

Seasons of Life

Are you embracing the season you are in? If not, you’re missing God’s best for you. When do we hear God most clearly? We hear God best in winter seasons of life. During the more fragrant and obviously blessed seasons we are, frankly, too busy, too distracted. In winter, all we have is time. We’ve been rained-out, snowed in, or buried under. At last God has our attention. If we spend time wishing winter was over, we'll miss the best time to rest, listen, and refresh. Each season has its strengths and weaknesses. Adam and Eve were seduced in summer. David fell in the springtime. Looking for fruit in the middle of winter will cause disappointment. Trying to hold on to parts of life in fall, when emotional leaves fall away, will produce frustration. Look to Jesus in every season! When God wants spring and summer to come, it will happen. But we do ourselves a distinct disservice by refusing the season right in front. Spring flowers will come soon enough. Summer fruit is on the menu. In the meantime, don’t miss what God is trying to show you today. I’ve squandered too many wonderful days, in magnificent places, with fascinating people, because I was unable to get my heart around what was happening. I longed for what was not. I’ll never get those days back, but I’m committed not to repeat that mistake. Our best season should be the present one. Believing yesterday wasn't a great day only means I missed what God was trying to do in me.

As You long to redeem every person, so You desire each to see with Your eyes the extraordinary opportunities for growth, no matter the season. Whether the growth is visible, as in spring and summer, or more subtle, as in fall and winter, help me to fully accept Your pathway through this season.”

Self

Are you more attached to knowing God...or receiving His blessing? When Jesus walked the Earth, many people loved to be around Him for the hot meals, for the loaves and the fishes. But when it came down to being whole-hearted followers... disciples...they were gone. Our motive determines the outcome of whatever we’re hoping for. We rarely call someone a “friend” who only sticks around for his own benefit. If our motive is to truly glorify God, and not merely profit ourselves, then God’s blessing and favor will rest upon us. Ask God to give you His heart to do His will and not your own. God has good things to give you but the best thing is a friendship with Him. The self-centeredness of others may have hurt you, but it will be your own self-obsession that will continually refresh the pain. The greatest enemy to freedom in Christ is not sin, but self! Jesus already took care of your sins when He died on the Cross. Now you must learn to die to yourself in order to be truly free. Freedom is ahead, when self is behind! Learn to rest so completely in God's perfection that you're not overwhelmed by your own lack. If we refuse to accept God's plan for our lives, we consign ourselves to a brave new world of perpetual unfulfillment. Waiting for a better life is like staring at your dinner, hoping to improve its taste. The magnificent life God created for you...it's what's for dinner.

So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Identity Prayer “God, I have allowed my obsession with self to rule my heart. I have given far too much attention to thinking about me. It has dug a deep hole of chronic unfulfillment. Help me turn my thoughts and affections toward You, Your heart, Your will and Your purpose. Jesus, may You become the center of every part of my thoughts and life. Only then can I see myself with Your vision.”

DESTINY — Self Scripture: Matthew 16:24 (NLT)

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If any of you wants to be My follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow Me.’” Destiny Prayer “Lord Jesus, please rescue me out of my self-absorption. My future gets brighter the more I cast my cares upon You. Help me to focus my thoughts upon Your Word and Your promises—not the challenges of this temporary home. Struggles

Are you in the middle of a storm? Do you feel overwhelmed? Meteorologists say that, on the ground, every storm feels the same as it approaches—whether it brings two inches or two feet of snow. So, we never really know which storm will bring the most challenge or the most benefit to our lives. Embrace your storms as they come; there are no accidental storms. An all-knowing God, who always has our best interest in mind, handcrafts every one. We were created to meet Jesus in the middle of our storms. Frankly, few of us have time for Him in the calm. It often takes hurricanes and tornadoes to get our attention. We should thank God for the storms in our lives, because they help us to become fully conscious, and more intimately connected with our ever-caring Creator. Avoiding pressure decreases your value. Deep-source volcanic eruptions deliver diamonds to the surface. But diamonds are rare. We can become God's priceless diamonds when we respond properly to the heat and pressures of life. But if we refuse and give in to discouragement and fear, we'll remain just a rock. Yesterday's tests prepare us for the greater trials of tomorrow. They shape us into the person we've always wanted to be. When it seems nothing's working out, when it appears your hopes and dreams are erupting in flames and going up in smoke, will you still trust the God who promises to give you a future and a hope? Will you allow Him to make you His treasure?

IDENTITY — Struggles Scripture: Isaiah 25:4 (NASB)

“For You have been a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat...” Identity Prayer “Father God, I struggle to find You—to break free from the patterns of unbelief and fear that make me feel lost in the pressures of life. I know that You hold me even now. Still I struggle to rest and trust that You are enough. Take the blindness from my eyes and the hardness from my heart. Make my life a dance—not just a struggle.”

DESTINY — Struggles Scripture: Philippians 1:28 (MSG)

“There's far more to this life than trusting in Christ. There's also suffering for Him. And the suffering is as much a gift as the trusting. You're involved in the same kind of struggle you saw me go through...” Destiny Prayer “Lord, I know struggling is part of the life that You have purposed for me. I am forged through affliction, perfected in pain, and sanctified while suffering. But keep me from selfinflicted struggles. May every ounce of distress and difficulty be God-ordained, and not the result of my own poor response to Your purpose for my life. Guide me through all aspects of the struggling process. I know You will. Thank You for doing so.”

Suffering

What teaches us about life? Malcolm Muggeridge, the famous British journalist and author, wrote near the end of his life, “Contrary to what might be expected, I look back on experiences that at the time seemed especially desolating and painful with particular satisfaction. Indeed, I can say with complete truthfulness that everything I have learned in my 75 years in this world, everything that has truly enhanced and enlightened my experience, has been through affliction and not through happiness.”85 What a revealing statement! If I love God and am committed to do His will, my difficulties will help shape me into the person I was meant to be. As painful as your suffering might be at this very moment, the Master Surgeon Himself can heal wounds no matter how deep. When does suffering produce a positive change? Change begins when our willingness to accept God-allowed pain exceeds our fear of pain. At times we will suffer pain before fully completing God’s will for our lives. Even Jesus endured a painful crucifixion before He completed the Father’s will for His life and could say, “It is finished!”86 As we keep our eyes on the prize, we eventually see that the pressure and pain in life pales in comparison to God's revealed glory.87 My prayer is that the Lord will help us see Him working in every moment of our lives, that He will lead us to trust that the plan we cannot see is greater than the circumstances we can.

The Unthinkables

Are you experiencing an unthinkable situation? Life is filled with them! We don’t mind the good unthinkables: an inheritance, a healing, a wonderful relationship, or even God’s forgiveness. But it’s the seemingly bad unthinkables: the sudden death of a loved one, divorce, bankruptcy, chronic pain, or a terminal illness that rock our world. The Bible says, “Have no fear of sudden disaster...”89 If we respond properly to the unthinkable tests of life, they’ll bring us to a whole new level of faith in God. It’s true, many things catch us off guard, but nothing surprises God. Believe that He is with you in the middle of your unthinkables. Why? Because He really is! I once heard some jolting news that could have saddened and disappointed me. But God in His mercy quickly reminded me of my only responsibility. I am only in charge of the Respond Well Department because He is in charge of everything else. Wow! What a relief! For a moment, I thought I might be in trouble. Then I got my eyes back on Jesus! The world says, “Be in control!” But the Word says, “Give God control!”90 Every challenge in life is designed to reveal our weakness and God’s strength—to make us realize not just how desperately we need Him, but how absolutely sufficient His grace is in each of our lives. God provides everything we need to love the life He's given.91

Deliver me from a cynical spirit. Bathe my mind in an unshakeable confidence that You are God. Thinking Victoriously

To blame God is to grossly misunderstand Him. Contentment means trusting Him no matter what's happening. It's more of a decision than a consequence. It's the opposite of the victim mindset and makes me responsible for my responses to life. Paul wrote, “I've learned in whatever state I am, there I'll be content.”94 He had the breakthrough of a lifetime because he accepted God's will. When a thought comes into my mind that disagrees with God's assessment of Himself, others, or me, I reject it and replace it with His Word. This requires two actions: applying the Word of God and trusting the Word of God more than my own feelings and circumstances. If you think you’ve got God figured out, your God isn’t big enough. Until we esteem God’s Word more than our own thoughts, we’ll squirm every time something happens contrary to our expectations. I don’t need to figure out what’s going on as long as I trust God who already knows. If I lack wisdom I can ask God for His help, but I must ask without doubting Him.95 The next time you think God’s withholding insight, believe that it would be way too much information. God will withhold nothing from us if it’s truly for our good. But never forget: only He knows what’s best, and we get a lifetime to learn this.

Troubles

We were born for trouble—created for a fight! Through trouble our soul is formed, shaped, and molded into the image of an untroubled God. I get a kick out of the expression, “If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much room.” Though it is a bit over the top, and I’m certainly not trying to initiate trouble, this statement compels me to think of troubles as an adventure rather than a difficulty. Living on the edge may seem rough. But if your troubles were completely removed, you’d simultaneously eliminate your life purpose: to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. “For whom God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son.”97 Defining your purpose reduces frustration, increases your focus, and keeps you on track to fulfill God’s will for your life. What happens to us may seem completely out of control, but how we view life is always a choice. I can choose to see my life from God’s life-giving point of view or from the narrowness of fear, unbelief, and ignorance which leads only to anger, panic, and despair. We have a choice to look up past the distracting troubles that keep us stuck in the past, bound in the present, and hopeless for the future. We must commit to go forward, whatever comes our way, choosing to remain “…steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the lord, knowing that our labor is not in vain in the lord.”98 Look up! God sees you! He will help!

Trust

As I was growing up, my family went on long car trips. I’d ask my parents, “Are we there yet? Are we there yet?” It’s a valid question, though when repeated every other minute, it can get really annoying. But, I never asked my parents “Do you know where we’re going?” I assumed they knew...I trusted they knew...I rested in their knowing. Trust is believing God has all the clarity I need. I don’t have to know what’s going on, as long as I know He knows. Many of my assumptions about life have really been presumptions. I’m not wallowing in ignorance; I’m resting in a confident trust that God is guiding my life. At times, we know where we’re going. Most of the time, we need to trust that He knows. The reason we don’t trust God is because we don’t know Him. The reverse is also true; we don't know Him because we don't trust Him. If we knew God, we’d certainly love and trust Him; we’d trust Him to reveal His understanding, in His time, not ours. The trusting person is no more attached to God’s clarity than God’s silence. It makes no difference! He knows the main event is not knowing what’s going on, but trusting God knows. The more I know God the more I trust Him. The more I depend upon my own understanding, the less peace I have.100 “...taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” 101

Unanswered Prayer

Do you think God answering your prayers will make your day? It won’t! You’ll just ask Him for something else. And the merrygo-round will...go round! Other requests will follow every temporary desire. At some point in life, I must learn to find my contentment in God alone and not in what He does for me! The purpose of prayer is not to get answers, but to get to know God! The satisfaction you're looking for comes from learning to love and trust Him, regardless of His answer. Soon, within your own prayer time, you will begin to understand God. Beyond His answer you will know Him. Don't obsess over what you don't have; rejoice in every morsel God provides. He's a loving Father who promises to give us everything we need. Even miracles will leave you dissatisfied if you don't turn your attention back to God. Only one out of the ten lepers Jesus healed came back to thank Him.102 Nine never looked back. Wait on God, not what He can do for you. When you really know God, you trust Him—for everything about Him is completely trust-worthy. Refuse to depend on what you seem to understand. You trust God with all of your heart, and not lean on your limited understanding.103 God doesn’t want to coddle you! He wants to comfort you! Don’t live waiting for tomorrow to begin. Learn to live hoping today will never end.

“If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer.” Identity Prayer “God, perhaps the greatest question I struggle with is why some prayers seem unanswered. Not just mine alone, but also prayers of those around me who struggle. It hurts to see faltering faith because someone feels You have deserted him or her. Please check me when I begin to accuse You of not caring for me, or for those I love. You never fail anyone, nor could You. So I will rest in the truth that whatever You withhold from me is for my absolute best.”

Unforgiveness I once met a missionary who spent years ministering to a remote tribe without witnessing any conversions. One day, a member of the tribe accidentally electrocuted the missionary's nine-year-old son. A tribal custom permitted revenge by the victim's relatives if they so chose. The tribe expected the missionary to take the life of the one who took his son's life. But instead of exacting retribution, the missionary forgave him. This response sent a shockwave through the tribe. They'd never heard of anyone forgiving such a deed. Eventually, because of his and his wife's selfless attitude, the entire tribe came to know Jesus. His family experienced an incomprehensible loss, but their willingness to forgive changed everything. When people hurt us, we have a choice. Either we seek the healing God alone can give, or we find ourselves wallowing in the pain of past offenses. No one escapes this life unhurt. It's the price of admission to the human race: a marathon not for the faint-hearted or faultfinding, but for the faithful few who are more humbled by their own shortcomings than the faults of others. Ask God to show you people's needs, not their offenses. Be a pathfinder, not a faultfinder! Learn to forgive, not just receive forgiveness. The captain of a slave ship, responsible for 20,000 deaths, asked God to forgive him. He then wrote these words to Amazing Grace: “I once was lost, but now I'm found.” All of us have messed up. We've all come far short of God's best. I owed a debt I couldn't pay. Jesus paid a debt He didn't owe. I'm eternally grateful.

Victorious Life Are you optimistic or pessimistic about your life? Long ago I settled that question. I want to enthusiastically wade through every disappointment. Paul the apostle was also an eternal optimist. He once wrote, “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ...”104 There’s no aspect of our lives that God overlooks. The psalmist wrote, “My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret…”105 God has never made even one mistake concerning you. “…I am fearfully and wonderfully made…and that my soul knows very well.”106 In addition, Jesus did not overstate His promise of the abundant life.107 Followers of Jesus are created to live victorious, resurrected lives. How will we know we are walking victoriously? You know you're walking in resurrection life when you're more concerned about Heaven's impression than Earth's impression of you, and when you're more interested in trusting God than understanding circumstances. Dead men have no preferences. They bask in total acceptance and complete resignation. It is God’s will that we have no preference other than to obey and be at peace with His provision. If we daily die to our own desires and yield to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, we will experience the abundant life Jesus promised. For it is in dying we live, and it is in living a fully surrendered life that we experience all God intended. This is victorious life! A gracious God has given us each an infinite potential. Let's purpose to live our potential!

Yesterday’s Woes Are you struggling to accept some part of your past? When we dwell on yesterday, we shouldn’t be surprised if tomorrow seems to never come. If we embrace what is happening, our feelings from the past won’t seem as important as they once were. Because tomorrow is promised to none of us, I’m committed to embracing my life today! Frankly, firm expectations often lead to bitter disappointments. At some point we must accept that, on many levels, God gives us the life He knows we need, not the one we wished we had. Embrace it! At the end of the day, resisting God’s work will bring confusion. Accepting God’s will, and trusting Him to lead you, will give you the peace of mind you want. Sure, it’s good to learn from setbacks, but dwelling on them is pointless. Learn to look beyond your setbacks and discover the purpose in your pain. If you’re focusing on what you’ve done wrong, you’re still living in the past. No good can come from watering last year’s crop. An ancient philosopher once wrote, “Waste not fresh tears over old griefs.” Water your future with faith! Believe that God can redeem every mistake...every disappointment...every hurt. Don’t let your past pain define you! Let God’s eternal purpose for your pain inspire you! Ask Him to reveal the true value of all you’ve been through. Even Jesus learned obedience through the things He suffered.110 Allow God to form you into the person He created you to be.

Destiny Prayer “Lord, I know yesterday’s trials are over. They cannot be relived or undone. So I place these memories in Your capable hands to discard, or to shape, or to heal. I will walk through my past, but only as You lead. I look forward to my future, but only if You are its centerpiece. Because I know You are with me, I will run to my destiny in You. Every day, I welcome You. I love You. For You alone make my future safe.”

2029—The Church of the Future* You can comprehend the future if you study the past and discern the present. God is not hiding what is about to happen. He longs to reveal it to us. In 1989, Francis Anfuso wrote We’ve Got a Future—The 21st Century Church. Now, two decades after its release, the book reads like a detailed depiction of today’s church. But the story is far from finished. This next volume details what is about to unfold—where the church must go, and the significant role you can play. 2029 is a glimpse into our future. A taste of what will shortly come to pass. Now is not the time for the Church to shrink back and recoil as the battle rages. Instead, we are approaching our finest hour.

Church Wounds— Francis Anfuso and David Loveless* Our wounds don’t have to disable us. They’re meant to be a doorway into the restored life God always intended. God wants to heal us, if we want to be. For God to free us, we must allow Him to touch our pain. Church Wounds examines the most common hurts inflicted by Christians on Christians: hypocrisy, judgmentalism, leader insensitivities, and abuse, plus many more. Read the stories of those who were not just hurt—but healed; and then experience the healing yourself.

NUMB We all fight numbness and its long-term effect. Unless our daily reality is greater than our inner fantasy, we’ll wander from one reality-replacement to another. When we forget what we know—we forfeit who we are. Everything God does is designed to lead us into intimacy with Him—to set us free from boredom, loneliness, and self-absorbed distractions. He loves us enough to allow us to be satisfied with only Himself. God’s not trying to crash your party. He’s inviting you to His! Unless the pleasure we find in God is greater than the pleasure we find in this world, we’ll always succumb to the evils of Earth rather than yield to the holiness of Heaven. If we’ll let Him, God will take our lives from subzero to superhero, from average to exceptional, from one-in-a-billion to one-of-a-kind.

revivalstories.org Why do we need a revival? Because a revival does what only God can do. Revival is when God springs a convicting surprise on His creation — it’s when Jesus is so lifted up, He draws multitudes to Himself. At revivalstories.org, you can access powerful videos describing some of the greatest revival moments throughout history. From the Great Awakenings to the great evangelists and revivalists, revival stories unlocks the heartbeat of the why and how of revivals. When a generation gets so desperate for Jesus to transform their culture that Christians finally humble themselves, crying out in desperation for God to intervene. Also contained in this website are Revival Forums where leaders discuss both the need and practical outworking of revival coming to a city and even a nation. What would happen if the leaders in your city were united in one mind and heart — if Jesus were lifted up? Even though revival can’t be worked up, it can’t be faked, there are things we can do to prepare our hearts and those around us for Heaven to come to Earth in revival. 94
