About Me     

Graduated from UBC in 2003 with B.Sc. (added Project Management in 2008) Worked as Technical Coordinator at Weyerhaeuser between 2006-2008 Joined FARO Technologies and have since been involved with all types of PCMM’s since 2008 Started Digital Precision in 2011 as there was a gap in the service market for 3rd party 3D measurement Have been involved large projects involving, 3D measurement, alignment, and scanning/mapping › › › › ›

What is a PCMM?  

Portable Coordinate Measuring Machine CMM (coordinate measuring machine) A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is a device for measuring the physical geometrical characteristics of an object. This machine may be manually controlled by an operator or it may be computer controlled. Measurements are defined by a probe attached to the third moving axis of this machine. Probes may be mechanical, optical, laser, or white light, amongst others. A machine which takes readings in six degrees of freedom and displays these readings in mathematical form is known as a CMM.

Six degrees of Freedom 

When using a 3D device it allows for evaluating the six degrees of freedom of the component.

How much sag? Is it bent? If so how much? Are the flange ends parallel? And are they perpendicular to the shaft? Is the part flat? Concentric?
