CIPS Prague Czech Republic

Opening speech of the CIPS president Dear Sport Fishing Friends, We will all gather together in the beautiful spring month, April in Prague at the 38th Congress of the International Sport Fishing Confederation, CIPS, which will be organized by the Czech Fishing Federation. The Czech Federation is a federation with a long tradition, which has already many times confirmed and proved its engagement for the development of sports fishing which we all represent, not only at national but at international level as well. It’s a federation with a lot of success in sports fishing and in organizing major international events for our federations. I would like to thank our Czech sports fishing friends for all their attention to our present Congress which, I am definitely confident, will be a further success concerning the future of the sport fishing all over the world. It cannot be repeated often enough that one of the most important tasks of a community is to clearly discuss its situation and determine what to do next. We need these two important operations for our well-thought and coordinated actions. So these will be the main issues for our 3 days of meeting in the beautiful capital of the Czech Republic. I know, our task it not easy. Serious questions are raised for sports fishing to answer, as well as for the angling sport in general. The sustainability of sport fishing raises very serious questions concerning to strengthen our activity for the protection of the environment and the living world of the waters. We have the task to determine all reasonable limitations and all necessary sacrifices to protect the world of aquatic animals. We must prove clearly and definitely that sport fishing goes together with the love of nature, the protection of nature, the sustainability of the environment, the safeguarding and welfare of our partners in the game, the fishes. These will be the main messages given by our 38th CIPS Congress. I think it is evidently fundamental that through our confederation sports fishing has to be recognized and integral part of the international sport movement, together with all the other sports – this is one of the reasons why we requested a recognition by the International Olympic Committee as an Olympic sport. As much as our efforts for becoming active participants and partners in every international organization where the issues of the sport fishing are raised. In our ever-changing and fast-moving world, where information and communication play a key role, the CIPS would be launching a new dynamism, meant to become the sport fishing hub for all our confederation members as well as those exploring our sport. Priority to promote our sport, priority to make the sport fishing more spectacular, more understandable for the media and not only for whom interesting in sport fishing but, via the media, for everybody. The vision as one of the most cultivated and most popular sport deserves. Warm welcome in Prague to this 38th Congress and I wish you all a nice stay and very good discussions for being enable to go home with the pleasure that we did a big positive step on the way of ensuring even more successful future of our well-loved sport fishing. Welcome words to the 38th CIPS Congress 2017 Dear friends of sport, ladies and gentlemen, Allow us to welcome you on behalf of the National Council of the Czech Anglers Union (ČRS) and on behalf of the Moravian Anglers Union, meaning on behalf of the organizing federation. We would like to invite you to the 38th CIPS Congress which shall be held in Prague, capital city of the Czech Republic, between 27 and 30 April 2017. The Czech Anglers Union (ČRS), with several organizational changes, was established in 1957. This means that in the year of the organization of the 38th CIPS Congress, our federation celebrates the 60th anniversary of its foundation. With respect to the development of angling in our country, we would like to remind you of the fact that various independent angling clubs and organizations have a history longer than 130 years. The history and tradition of fish farming dates back to the 14th century, when a system of fishponds started being built in the Czech kingdom. These have been operated until today and they create an important fishpond network which is used by both commercial fishermen and sport anglers The Czech Anglers Union (ČRS) along with the Moravian Anglers Union, which is represented by ČRS in international organizations and activities, have more than 300 thousand members. From this number of members, youth up to 18 years constitute almost 30 thousand members. Sporting activities and work with youth form an integral and not inconsiderable part of the activities of our union. ČRS has been a member of CIPS since 1960. The first international event which we organized in co-operation with CIPS was the Casting World Championship in Svit in 1966. The first CIPS Congress was organized in the Czech Republic in 1972 on the occasion of the Angling World Championship on the Berounka River, not far from Prague. Since the 1980s, ČRS has been taking part in international sporting events abroad, where we have won many times as well as received many awards. Simultaneously, ČRS has organized various World Championships in all angling sports and in various categories. This period started with the Casting World Championship in 1982 in Karlovy Vary and was followed by other international competitions in Flyfishing and Casting. All competitions were always positively assessed by both participants and CIPS. The last CIPS Congress was organized in our country in 2007. This Congress was very well organized and those participants who were in Prague 10 years ago still remember it. Historically, the most federations and participants took part in this Congress. By this list and with looking back on the past activities of our union, we would like to assure you that we will devote much attention to this CIPS Congress, corresponding to its importance. Please accept our invitation to the CIPS Congress in our capital city. We hope you will be satisfied with our programme and organization as much as in previous years. 38th CIPS Congress 2017 Prague, Czech Republic 27. – 30. April 2017

Prague, the capital town of the Czech Republic History The capital city of the Czech Republic, Prague, is situated in the very heart of Europe, at a place that has been an intersection of continental merchant trails for time immemorial. Prague Castle was founded in the 9th century and it has been the seat of Czech princes and kings from 10th century of our era. In the mid-14th century, Prague became the centre of the Holy Roman Empire and Europe’s third largest city in terms of population. It is also place where was the history of the middle ages. On the throne there have been several very important European dynasties and royalties such as Přemyslid, House of Luxembourg, Jagiellons and others. As part of the Hapsburg monarchy, Prague remained the capital of Czech lands, which became the strongest part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in terms of economy during the 19th century. Prague was developing as an important centre where Czech, German and Jewish cultures met and mingled. Following the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918, Prague became the capital of the new country. It experienced a growth of its territory and a great construction boom. Currently, Prague is a large city of more than one million people, spreading over almost 500 square kilometres. Following the social and economic changes in 1989, Prague enhanced its historically strong ties with other cities in Central Europe, and has gradually been gaining a continuously improving position within the continental structure of major cities. Prague therefore has the entire prerequisite for being a good and recognized city. Centuries of construction gave rise to an exceptional integrated architectural complex, unique in the world as regards its size and concentration of cultural heritage. Different architectural styles mingle and intertwine here, and their symbiosis creates the city’s unique atmosphere. The most valuable part of the city’s centre with an area of 866 hectares was declared the Prague Heritage Reserve in 1981, which was included in UNESCO‘s world cultural heritage list in 1992. Prague is the seat of the highest-level legislative, administrative and political bodies of the countrythe parliament, government and president and the most important social, cultural and educational institutions reside here. The city is the entrance gate to the Czech Republic. The next informations concerning Prague city and history you can fine in every guide book about Prague.
