Greetings! It is my honor to invite NBPA family, friends and colleagues to the 33rd Annual Conference and Job Fair, to be held July 10-16, 2016. Our destination this year is St. Louis, Missouri, with the host hotel being the Hilton Ballpark. St. Louis is at the center—not only geographically, but in its significance in the future of criminal justice, policing and community relations. The debate that has emerged in the two years since the events of Ferguson has cast a spotlight on our system—what we are doing right, and what we can do better. As African American prosecutors, we are uniquely poised to lead this discussion. This conference will explore the findings of the Ferguson Commission, look at the best ways to deal with police shooting cases, and how offices can best cope with a prosecution in the media spotlight. As always, our training will feature core craft topics and updates on cutting edge legal issues. We will also be partnering with the National Association of Attorneys General to learn about topics of interest to line prosecutors and Assistant Attorney Generals, enabling us to form partnerships that are more cooperative in our home jurisdictions. Our week will culminate in a tour of the Historic Old Courthouse, site of the Dred Scott case. We are not all work and no play—the hospitality suite, off site activities and our gala will be the family homecoming that we have come to expect yearly at the conference. So, meet us in St. Louis! The job fair will bring eager and diverse talent; the CLEs will be thought provoking, and a great time will be had by all! Yours in service, Melba V. Pearson President National Black Prosecutors Association
