Pastor`s Letter / List Księdza Proboszcza It's very difficult for us to think about divine matters. In our everyday lives we tend to react as human beings and wish for our desires to be fulfilled, in accordance with our human logic. Jesus, who announced his inevitable death on the cross – in the hands of his kinsmen responsible for the affairs of God – to his disciples, reprehends Peter, who dares to rebuke Christ and almost commands Him to realize his Divine Mission. He then accuses Peter “you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns”. We know this from our own experiences. When we are sick or a tragedy befalls us, it is difficult for us to accept the will of God as we have human concerns; yet God wants us – through these experiences – to experience salvation combined with the Divine Mission of the Son of God. Christ's next words speak volumes in this context: “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it”. This does not, of course, exclude our “human resistance”, which should subside once we consider our “losses and gains” of being with Christ, as was the case with Peter, or even with the prophet Isaiah, which our first reading concentrated on. Isaiah prophesied only misery will befall on the Kingdom of Israel, as ordered by Yahweh, and wanted to back out of his mission as prophet, but something inside did not allow him to do so. As he himself noticed: “(…) His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones”, and he could not extinguish this fire despite attempts. Salvation and the safety of man is – and always was – through God, and the cost of this salvation was the life and cross of Jesus Christ. This is the moral of today's readings. This is also confirmed by St. Peter, who urges us to offer our bodies, and all temptations tied with them, “as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship”. We must not base our actions on the follies of this earth, but turn our minds towards reading the Will of God.

Czyniłem wysiłki, by go stłumić, lecz nie potrafiłem”.

Summer vacation is over and a new school year has begun. We will soon begin a new school year at our St. Albert Polish School, which operates during the weekend. Following the summer our parish is even more open to our parishioners and operates at full throttle. I would just like to remind everyone that we have hired a new Director of Religious Education, Mrs. Alicia Pozywio, who joined the parish staff and will be in charge of the RCIA program. We welcome Mrs. Alicia to our parish and wish her a great school year and God's blessing. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all volunteers for their parish work: everyone who worked at the parish office and Mrs. Linda Ricchio for organizing summer bible studies for our children. May God bless you all!

Proceeds from the sale will fund renovations to our convent building. Thank you THE STORY OF THE NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY The Church has celebrated Mary’s birth since at least the sixth century. A September birth was chosen because the Eastern Church begins its Church year with September. The September 8 date helped determine the date for the feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8.Scripture does not give an account of Mary’s birth. However, the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James fills in the gap. This work has no historical value, but it does reflect the development of Christian piety. According to this account, Anna and Joachim are infertile but pray for a child. They receive the promise of a child who will advance God’s plan of salvation for the world. Such a story, like many biblical counterparts, stresses the special presence of God in Mary’s life from the beginning.Saint Augustine connects Mary’s birth with Jesus’ saving work. He tells the earth to rejoice and shine forth in the light of her birth. “She is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious lily of the valley. Through her birth the nature inherited from our first parents is changed.” The opening prayer at Mass speaks of the birth of Mary’s Son as the dawn of our salvation, and asks for an increase of peace. REFLECTION We can see every human birth as a call for new hope in the world. The love of two human beings has joined with God in his creative work. The loving parents have shown hope in a world filled with travail. The new child has the potential to be a channel of God’s love and peace to the world. This is all true in a magnificent way in Mary. If Jesus is the perfect expression of God’s love, Mary is the foreshadowing of that love. If Jesus has brought the fullness of salvation, Mary is its dawning. Birthday celebrations bring happiness to the celebrant as well as to family and friends. Next to the birth of Jesus, Mary’s birth offers the greatest possible happiness to the world. Each time we celebrate her birth, we can confidently hope for an increase of peace in our hearts and in the world at large.

NARODZENIE NAJŚWIĘTSZEJ MARYI PANNY-8 WRZEŚNIA Pismo Święte nigdzie nie wspomina o narodzinach Maryi. Tradycja jednak przekazuje, że Jej rodzicami byli św. Anna i św. Joachim. Do ziarna siewnego mieszano ziarno wyłuskane z kłosów, które były wraz z kwiatami i ziołami poświęcane w uroczystość Wniebowzięcia Matki Bożej, by uprosić sobie dobry urodzaj. We Włoszech i niektórych krajach łacińskich istnieje kult Maryi-Dziecięcia.
