In The Spirit By Cynthia Reyes As we all know, it is extremely difficult to sit at the same table with someone whom we may have had a disagreement with. Who really wants to share a meal together after all the harsh words or misconstrued actions have taken place, deliberately or unintentional? Is it not easier to avoid that person all together? Perhaps by ignoring it, the reminder of that person or that hurt will just go away? It is comfortable to enjoy a person who thinks like us, shares the same opinions as us, than those who are just plainly “not like us.” Um, is this attitude giving Spirit-life? Today, the readings are filled about the power of the Holy Spirit coming to not only the apostles but to other people outside of the inner circle as St. Paul tells us. The Spirit comes to recreate us into what we really should become: a loving, forgiving, holy, peace filled people. It is the Spirit that makes enemies speak. It is the Spirit that mends the brokenhearted into renewed hope in love. It is the Spirit, which brings what was once divided into a unity of wholeness, and filled of hope & redemption. It is the Spirit that nudges us into better people of God; letting go of resentments, replenishing us with peace, joy, and love. As we all renew and pray for the Spirit to take hold of our stony hearts, our hearts that have shut in resentment, anger, and disenchantment; let us all ask for the pouring of grace over all that binds us, over all that needs healing so that we can once again live with all the gifts which the Spirit gives us: love, joy, peace, kindness... The Spirit does all these things for us. We may just be the obstacles of his grace. Let go. Let God abide in each one of us! Happy Pentecost!
