FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION The Sure Power 41222 is a remote enabled, step-up DC to DC voltage converter powered from a 12 volt charging source. It is designed to provide a nominal fixed output voltage of 2 times the input voltage at an output current of 10 amps continuous when the input voltage is between 6 and 16 volts (see voltage profile in electrical characteristics). In addition, a switched output is provided to match the logic of the 12V-enable signal. Protection is provided against input reverse polarity, short circuit (1), over voltage, under voltage, and over load conditions. Internal thermal protection forces a gradual reduction of available output power in order to keep unit temperatures within a safe level (see electrical characteristics). A sealed case provides protection against chemicals and corrosive materials, such as fuels and cleaners.
Overload, Short Circuit, and Reverse Polarity Protection When the converter is overloaded (greater than 10 amps) the converter operates in a constant power mode in which the output voltage is folded back as the load current increases. Protection for short circuits and extreme overloads is provided via an externally connected fuse on the converters input (see electrical connection diagram). The converter is designed to survive short circuit currents required to open a 30A ATO style fuse. Reverse polarity protection on the input is provided internally using electronic components that sense and block potentially damaging reverse battery connections.
Converter Operation To enable the converter the input voltage must momentarily be above the undervoltage turn on requirement simultaneously with the application of either or both of the enable logic inputs. Once enabled, the converter boost the output to twice the input and will supply the full rated output current throughout the input voltage range until both enable signals go low or the input supply is removed. Should an input over-voltage occur, the converter will discontinue to boost the output to twice the input and passes the input voltage to the output minus the internal voltage drops. Notes: (1) Short circuit protection require the use of a externally connected fuse. Reference electrical connection diagram.
