LITTLE SMILES MISSION STATEMENT   Little Smiles of Florida is a nonprofit organization that grants wishes and sponsors activities to delight, entertain and engage children who are experiencing difficulties and challenges due to a medical condition, homelessness, recent separation from family or other traumatic event. Little Smiles currently serves over 15 facilities in the southeast Florida region. Little Smiles is a volunteer driven nonprofit that is primarily funded through special events, local foundations and corporate sponsorship. Little Smiles employs an Executive Director and Program Manager, all other representatives are volunteers. Little Smiles was created in 1999 as Videos for Kids and has since grown into an organization that has three chapters in Florida, Philadelphia, and North Carolina. HOW CAN I FIND OUT ABOUT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES? All upcoming events can be found on our website littlesmiles.org/floridaevents. You can also keep up with Little Smiles news and events through our online monthly newsletter. There, you will find stories on recent gift giving, upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. You are always welcome to contact the Volunteer Coordinators, Christie Self and Amy Hall, with any inquiries. HOW DO I SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER AT AN EVENT? Every active volunteer must register at Trackitforward.com. You will be able to sign up for events and log/track your hours by logging into your account. HOW MANY OPPORTUNITIES ARE THERE A YEAR? Little Smiles participates and hosts 15-20 community events every year. Some of these events require participation from over 30 volunteers! Little Smiles also hosts several Signature Events throughout the year. Getting involved with a committee is a great way to meet new people and to have a voice in how an event works. SIGNATURE EVENTS Stars Ball – February 13, 2016 Golf Tournament – May 13, 2016 Lift for Little Smiles – November 19, 2016 Bamboozle – October 15, 2016 Toy Drive – November & December Other volunteer opportunities that provide office and program support are available throughout the year.

AREAS OF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES EVENTS & FUNDRAISING  Little Smiles Signature Events o Assist with set up and/or clean up with event o Help provide information about Little Smiles at our information table o Sell raffle tickets o Distribute information about Little Smiles at event o Assist in marketing the event o Sit on a planning committee  Community Events o Assist with set up and/or clean up with event o Help provide information about Little Smiles at our booth o Distribute information at the event o Sell Little Smiles merchandise ADMINISTRATIVE  Assist in bulk mailings  Data entry  Marketing/Social Media  Donor and Volunteer outreach FACILITY PROGRAMS (Competitive: Lead Volunteer is assigned first, and in 2016 they must be nominated by staff or board, with a 1 to 2 year rotation)  Assist with pick-up and/or delivery of requested items to local hospitals o Fun food o Pizza o Costumes o Toys  Assist with activities honoring facility staff or children  Plan and execute projects to improve facility amenities for children  Pick-up and/or delivery of toys during annual toy drive Note: Volunteers must be over the age of 15 to enter most facilities. This is a facility rule that we must follow at all times.

ONGOING FACILITY ACTIVITIES 

A “Fun Food Run” is a delivery of snacks, microwaveable meals, candy, and other goodies to the children and families in Little Smiles’ facilities.



A Nerf Gun War is an event that takes place between the children in the facility and either the Little Smiles’ Board of Directors or an organization that has sponsored the event. We bring Nerf Guns to the facility for an hour of fun with the kids.

KEY THINGS TO TELL PEOPLE ABOUT LITTLE SMILES 

We are a non-profit organization that helps delight and engage children in hospitals and shelters.



Individuals can sign up to be a Friend of Little Smiles by donating $5 per month or $60 per year. As a Friend of Little Smiles, they are helping to pay for the cost of the many events and gifts that Little Smiles provides.

There are Corporate Sponsor opportunities available for businesses.



We have three chapters: Florida, Philadelphia, North Carolina. All of the money raised stays within its own chapter.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS OF A LITTLE SMILES VOLUNTEER As a volunteer for Little Smiles, it is expected that you:  Uphold the ideals and mission of Little Smiles.  Be a positive and professional representative for the organization.  Arrive at the event or volunteer position at the time you committed.  Follow through on your commitment to volunteer.  Carry out the responsibilities of the volunteer position to the best of your ability.  Dress according to the event – Little Smiles T-shirts will be given to volunteers.  Provide at least two days notification to the Volunteer Coordinator, if you are unable to volunteer.  Encourage others to get involved in the organization.  Seek advisement should you need assistance answering questions.  Be flexible should we need to assign you to a different responsibility.  Have fun!

Little Smiles Waiver Recognizing that Little Smiles serves a diverse multi-cultural and multi-generational clientele going through a various number of hardships, I realize that the often well-meaning actions of volunteers can have unintended consequences. Therefore, in order to protect the image and credibility of Little Smiles, I fully acknowledge that… …Little Smiles is not responsible for damage to volunteer’s personal property. This includes, but it not limited to, hand bags, purses, eye glasses, and automobiles used at Little Smiles serviced facilities. …a volunteer at Little Smiles serves at the pleasure of Little Smiles staff. A volunteer’s service may be terminated at any time. …a volunteer is encouraged to bring any concerns about policy and/or procedure to the immediate attention of the Executive Director. …a volunteer at Little Smiles is not permitted under any circumstance to be alone with a client off site. Violation of this rule will result in immediate termination of volunteer service. …a volunteer at Little Smiles is not permitted under any circumstance to drive a client to any destination in his/her personal vehicle. Violation of this rule will result in immediate termination of volunteer service. …a volunteer at Little Smiles is not permitted under any circumstance to visit a client in their home, apartment or residence. Violation of this rule will result in immediate termination of volunteer service. …a volunteer may not, under any circumstance, give personal funds, money or goods to a client. Violation of this rule will result in immediate termination of volunteer service. …a volunteer may not, under any circumstance make lewd or offensive jokes or comments referring to a client’s age, race, ethnicity, color, creed, religious beliefs or sexual orientation. Violation of this rule will result in immediate termination of volunteer service. …a volunteer under the age of 18 may not travel with a representative of Little Smiles off site without the written consent of a parent or guardian. General Volunteer Waiver of Liability This release and Waiver of Liability (the “Release”) executed on ______________date, by_________________________________________________ (the “Volunteer”) in favor of Little Smiles, Inc., a non-profit organization, its directors, officers, employees, agents, and representatives, and their respective successors and assigns, heirs, executors, and administrators (collectively “LITTLE SMILES, INC.”). The Volunteer desires to work as a volunteer for Little Smiles, Inc. and engage in the activities related to being a volunteer (the “Activities”). The Volunteer understands that the Activities may include, but are not limited to, providing transportation (using their own vehicle), cooking, carrying and lifting items, participating in special events and fundraisers, and engaging in other activities relevant to Little Smiles, Inc. The Volunteer hereby freely, voluntarily and without duress executes this Release under the following terms: Release and Waiver: Volunteer does hereby release and forever discharge and hold harmless LITTLE SMILES, INC. and its successors and assigns from any and all liability, claims and demands of whatever kind or nature, wither in law or in equity, which arise or may hereafter arise from Volunteer’s Activities with LITTLE SMILES, INC. Volunteer understands that this Release discharges LITTLE SMILES, INC. from any liability or claim that the Volunteer may have against LITTLE SMILES, INC. with respect to any bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death, or property damage that may result from the Volunteer’s Activities with LITTLE SMILES, INC., whether causes by the negligence of LITTLE SMILES, INC. or its offices, directors, employees or otherwise. Volunteer also understands that LITTLE SMILES, INC does not assume any responsibility for or obligation to provide financial assistance or other assistance, including, but not limited to, medical, health, or disability insurance in the event of injury or illness. Medical Treatment: Volunteer does hereby release and forever discharge LITTLE SMILES, INC. from any claim whatsoever which arises or may hereafter arise on account of any first aid, treatment, or service rendered in connection with the Volunteer’s Activities with LITTLE SMILES, INC. Assumption of Risk: The Volunteer understands that the Activities include work that may be hazardous to the Volunteer, including, but not limited to, transportation. Volunteer hereby expressly and specifically assumes the risk of injury or harm in the Activities and release LITTLE SMILES, INC. from all liability for injury, illness, death, or property damage resulting from the Activities. Insurance: The Volunteer understands that LITTLE SMILES, INC. does not carry or maintain health, medical, or disability insurance for any Volunteer.

Photographic Release: Volunteer does hereby grant and convey unto LITTLE SMILES, INC. all rights, title and interest in any and all photographic images and video or audio recordings made by LITTLE SMILES, INC. during the Volunteer’s Activities with LITTLE SMILES, INC., including, but not limited to, any royalties, proceeds, or other benefits derived from such photographs or recordings. Other: Volunteer expressly agrees that this Release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the laws of the State of Florida and that this Release shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida. Volunteer agrees that in the event that any clause or provision of this Release shall be held to be invalid by any court of competent jurisdictions, the invalidity of such clause or provision shall not otherwise affect the remaining provisions of this Release which shall continue to be enforceable.
