A Z O O Q L A TECHAPA 2016 F 1. What is Techapalooza?

Techapalooza is a concert event that brings together 5 bands comprised of talented musicians who work in the I.T. sector. The bands will perform in front of an enthusiastic crowd who will vote for their favorite band to be crowned “Fan Favourite”. Meanwhile, 3 celebrity judges will critique the band’s performances and select the “Judges Choice”...and while rockin’ the night away, we’ll be raising money for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation 2. When did this all start? Techapalooza was first held in 2012 at the Park Theatre. We had a sell-out crowd of 300 and raised $25,000 for CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. After another great event in 2013 at McPhillips Station Casino with 500 rocking audience members, raising $35,000, we moved the event to the Hotel Fort Garry, and raised $60,000 in 2014 and $75,000 in 2015! 3. When and where is this event being held? Friday, February 26th, 2016

Bands need to apply to participate. Bands will be selected by the Techapalooza selection panel led by the musical director

Bands are strongly encouraged to adopt a distinct musical theme or genre and a fun name that is a play on I.T. terminology Bands are limited to a 25 minute set All band members are volunteers, working hard to entertain and raise funds for CancerCare. They receive no remuneration for their performance. 5. How are the bands selected? Bands must apply to participate no later than October 15, 2015 Application forms are available on the web-site and should be emailed to: musicaldirector@ techapalooza.ca The selection panel is the Techapalooza organizing committee Selection criteria include: »»

Eligibility (working in the I.T sector with no more than 2 ringers)

»»

Performance experience level

»»

Musical style, genre and theme

Doors at 6:00 pm – Bands at 7:00 pm The Grand Ballroom, Hotel Fort Garry, Winnipeg’s iconic and most celebrated luxury hotel. 4. How does the band thing work?

6. What happens the night of Techapalooza?

They do not have to work at the same organization

Order of appearance will be through random draw, determined prior to the event Audience members will vote for their favourite band of the evening The band receiving most votes will be named “Fan Favourite” Judges will agree on one band as the “Judges Choice”

7. Where do the funds raised go? We are targeting to raise $75,000 from the I.T. community. 100% of the net proceeds for this event go to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, where all funds stay in Manitoba to support cancer research, education and patient support programs 8. How can I donate? Become a Groupie! One of the key components to our fundraising is the donations made by family, friends, and co-workers to CancerCare directly through our “Groupie” website. In 2015 we raised over $20,000 in “Groupie” sponsorships! Facilitated by CancerCare, each band member is strongly encouraged to set up a donation page and raise a minimum of $500. It’s easy and fun to do, you can add your own graphics and content to encourage people to donate. Each band member sets their fundraising goals according to what they can realistically attain and we celebrate together. 9. How can I get my organization involved? Become a Concert Promoter! We are looking for volunteers from our sponsors and other organizations to promote Techapalooza to their co-workers. Concert promoters will have access to: posters admission tickets to sell 3 minute promo videos to use to promote Techapalooza at your upcoming company meetings If you want to incorporate a Techapalooza event into your next team meeting, we’d be happy to send some committee members out and help you promote! 10. How are expenses for the event covered? Expenses for sound and lighting equipment, food, marketing and promotion are covered from proceeds of ticket sales, donations of value in kind and auxiliary fundraising methods. After expenses are covered, excess funds go to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation except for a small operating float that is retained by the Techapalooza organizing committee.
