FIFTY ARTISTS IN THE TOWN

Albigny Bay sets the scene for Europe’s biggest fireworks show and this year will bring to life the biggest cinema in the world for one night only: “Spotlight on the 7th art”. 70 minutes created by pyrotechnician Ruggieri with music, light and water… Inspired by the 1860’s great “Venetian” festival in honour of Napoleon III’s visit, this event returns every year with new firework techniques and creators of emotion. Almost 200,000 spectators flock to the banks of the lake to attend this amazing event.

The new mid-summer cultural event from Bonlieu Scène Nationale shows another side to the landscape with art installations dotted all over town. Thirteen temporary installations pop up in town and see it through fresh eyes, floating along the Thiou, blossoming in the stud farm or playing with plants. Fun and festivities are on the agenda with 4 parties, street shows and other musical surprises from the launch “La Grande Balade” on July 9th to the closing party on July 23rd. THE PYROCONCERT, 20TH EVENT OF ITS KIND

10 BACK TO THE ALPS, 43RD EVENT OF ITS KIND

CHRISTMAS IN THE ALPS

Flocks come back down from their summer pastures in early autumn and their return to the valley has been symbolised and celebrated by this event since the Middle Ages. On the second Saturday of October, the streets of Annecy are filled with artisans, age-old crafts, folklore groups with traditional instruments and regional producers. The region’s locals always come here to celebrate the arrival of autumn their way.

To end the year on a high, Annecy puts on its Christmas attire for visitors: illuminations, entertainment for all ages, concerts, nativities, Christmas markets, skating rink and tourist train. This is a great way to see Annecy in another light in a warm and social setting with fabulous views of the lake and snow-capped mountains.

Music and fireworks show, 9pm-11pm, Talloires Bay. The Pyroconcert is a show that awakens all the senses: sight, smell, hearing and even taste for those who sip a cocktail on the night. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Pyroconcert, Fêtes et Feux and the town of Talloires-Montmin have decided to pay tribute to Queen with Cover Queen performing “We are the Champions”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “I want to break free” and more. The event brings live music in an untouched setting together with pyrotechnic and light effects illuminating Talloires Bay. Directed by Jean Eric Ougier, lighting and fireworks specialist. TICKETS

ALPINE CAMPERVAN RIDE

The "waterfront" hotel is surrounded by nature and the building blends old world charm with contemporary design. One room has remained untouched and been listed as a Monument Historique. The relic dates back to the 17th century with original paintings of the Apostles and parquet flooring. Time seems to stand still in this room giving it a mystical and mysterious feel. The secret corridor running to the Abbey’s Chapel makes the historical site feel even more real. Unique feature of this construction period: tons of sand between each floor acting as fire screens.

Taking unique to the max! A leisurely walk through the forest on a hiking trail, an easy abseil to set foot on a wide and comfortable ledge for dinner as you watch the sun set over Annecy and the lake. Clients set up the hanging bed and settle onto the cliff face in a portaledge for a night under the stars. Duration: 2 days, suitable for children aged 10 and over (2-8 participants) “Adrenalin-pumping” package available.

BETWEEN LAKE AND MOUNTAINS, CITY IDEAL FOR BUSINESS TOURISM Business tourism is an integral part of Lake Annecy’s tourism and, perhaps surprisingly, it is older than regular tourism. In France, it accounts for 8.5 billion euros in economic benefits, 300,000 jobs and 107 million

euros in Annecy. The Rhône-Alpes region ranks 3 in business tourism and Annecy comes 2nd after Lyon. The Lac Annecy Congrès brand, part of Tourist Information, has two main goals: to promote and organise business events. rd

without affecting views of the lake. Access to the wooden green roof is a key part of the project as the panoramic terrace design meets the drive to provide a public area that anyone can visit, just like a balcony over the lake. The Centre will provide a full and versatile service with its modular 10,000m² space that has an exhibition space, 800-seater auditorium, modular function rooms and a panoramic restaurant. These new facilities will complement the Imperial Palace’s 5600m² conference centre founded in 1988.

There’s bags of corporate energy in the Annecy area with leading companies in their sector, networks of excellence, business clusters and university and research centres. What became apparent is that the area lacked the capacity and exhibition space to host trade fairs. The new Exhibition and Conference Centre will help meet the needs and changes of the market and

UNROLL A FULL AND SECURE CYCLE PATH AROUND THE LAKE

EXTEND THE PEDESTRIAN ZONE IN ANNECY OLD TOWN

In addition to the Green Path along the lake between Annecy and Doussard, Haute-Savoie Council and SILA (Lake Annecy Union) have designed a cycle path between Annecy-le-Vieux and Doussard. The project aims to boost tourism in the lake area and leisure services for locals as well as encourage green modes of transport. The path will come full circle by 2020.

The old town streets were getting traffic that was totally unsuitable for them and will now be far more pleasant for all the pedestrians visiting the area. Work will be conducted in several stages from early April to late November 2016. Work will be suspended during summer 2016. The final stage setting up Rue Filaterie is scheduled for 2017.

BUILD THE TRÉSUMS SITE 3

The urban landscaping project to renovate the former hospital into a residential area is called “L’AvantScène - Annecy Tresums” and owes its name to its great lakeside location at the foot of the Bauges Mountains. The seven plots of two or three buildings will stretch to the heart of a leafy 6 hectare park and will be arranged in several levels to link the lake to the ledge. In addition to the planned 632 lodgings, the site will have an old people’s home with 109 rooms, a hotel with 110 rooms and a large 2ha public park. The first deliveries are expected by the end of 2017. “L’Avant-Scène - Annecy Trésums” is designed by Christian de Portzamparc, French architect and urban planner.

800,000 bees got sponsors when they moved to the Trésoms hive. It enables 10 local businesses to do something for the environment by sponsoring a hive in a tree in the hotel’s grounds to encourage biodiversity in the surrounding area. Partners and clients can take part in hive life, the harvest and enjoying “floral” honey.

THE BETTER BOTTLE PROJECT 2

A CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN WAS LAUNCHED BY A YOUNG COUPLE WHO LOVE NATURE AND THE “VENICE OF THE ALPS” TO HELP PROTECT IT, ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMER WHEN VISITOR NUMBERS ARE AT THEIR PEAK.

Given that the lake water is what the 140,000 people living in the Annecy area drink, the idea is to give out reusable glass bottles for free to reduce the use of plastic bottles. The bottles can be filled at the many water fountains throughout Annecy. The bottles come with a specially designed map. The team also gives up their time to clean up the lake banks.
