#2. “Why in December?”
Both can be answered very easily. Answer #1 is that I am trying to “work smarter, not harder.” With limited time and limited help on the ranch for right now, calving the vast majority of our cows in May/June can be done by one person basically. These bulls have not seen bad days since birth – less stress, less hot feed, less cost and the death loss is incredibly low! Our customers that have used these long yearlings love ‘em! The longevity on them has been well documented to be longer due to the gradual development in their growth pattern. The answer to Question #2, “ Why in December?”... We background the bulls ‘til May then grass them until September and when they are sold in December, you can either take them home to acclimate to your ranch for a few months instead of immediately being thrown in with the cows after a spring sale. There’s lots of advantages all around to this time of the year!
