Creating better environments

DURATION

APPLICATION

Forbo’s long-standing payoff «creating better environments» did not come about by commissioning a hot-shot advertising agency. It was the result of one of our internal management meetings, early 2000, that focused on future vision and strategy for our compagny.

Forbo Sarlino, flooring manufacturer, guarantees its products against any hidden vices that could adversely affect the product life, starting from the invoice date. Guarantee durations are equal to :

The guarantee is applicable for regular and first class products. Forbo Sarlino agrees that it will repair floors during the first two years in the case of a justified claim for which it is responsible, including supply, removal and relaying, or to propose a comparable alternative solution. If a new flooring is supplied, the quality and the colour of the new flooring will be similar. A floor repair will not change the initial end of the guarantee date, calculated from the invoice date. After these first two years, the compensation will be calculated as a fixed amount proportional to the elapsed time taking account of the age to reach the value 0 at the end of the guarantee, and will only apply to the initial value of the flooring.

Forbo has been the first flooring compagny to measure its environmental footprint by using Life Cycle Assessment*. Based on LCA we have set our target to minimize the environmental impact to a 25 % improvement by the end of 2015. * 1994 Leiden University, The Netherlands

Forbo Flooring Systems, by the nature of its products, is an intrinsic part of the building & construction industry. On a global scale building & construction is widely seen as the largest contributor to global warming. As such every participant in the supply chain of this industry has the obligation to strive to a reduction of CO2 emissions and to look for continuous improvement in the sustainable characteristics of its products and processes, leading to a lower burden on the environment, in order to create an ever improving environmental footprint. At Forbo, we consider the investments we make in our people, processes and products not a cost of doing business, but rather as our responsibility and the only just way to being a responsible supplier in the flooring industry. By investing in creating better environments, we aim at creating a value proposition for our children’s future. We like to ensure the buildings of today will become a sustainable basis for further development. In our «Sustainability Policy» we underwrite the 1987 General Assembly’s Resolution of the United Nation’s on sustainability which states that : «a sustainable development should aim at meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs». We claim our responsibility to create a better environment, to manage the impact of our products and processes. Therefore we work with the Life Cycle Assessment method (LCA), a scientific method to score a product on their environmental impact categories (from raw materiel extraction to the way we produce and take care of the end of life phase of a product). It is a clear and objective score that allows us to measure our achievements in a transparent way. We have set our target to continuously minimize the environmental impact as measured by the LCA method at minus 25 % before the end of 2015 (cf 2009).
