Prof. Dr. Richard P. McLAUGHLIN Dr. Richard McLaughlin completed his orthodontic training at the University of Southern California in 1976. Since then he has been in the full time practice of orthodontics in San Diego, California. He has lectured extensively in the United States as well as internationally. He is a member of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the American Association of Orthodontists, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is the Component Director of the Southern California Component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists and Past President of the National Angle Society. He is the recipient of the 2009 American Board of Orthodontics Dale Wade Award as well as the 2010 Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists Award of Merit. In addition, Dr. McLaughlin is a clinical professor at the University of Southern California, Department of Orthodontics in Los Angeles, California, and an associate professor at Saint Louis University, Department of Orthodontics. He has written more than 30 journal articles and co-authored 5 textbooks.

orrection of a malocclusion to a position in which the condyles are in the correct position can be likened to the proper construction of the foundation of a house. Without it, the house is subject to future instability, as is the malocclusion treated to the incorrect condyle position. This course presents a comprehensive review of the management of orthodontic patients with temporo-mandibular disorders, as well as preventive 2

considerations. A historical review is presented, in which the concept of ideal occlusion is discussed, as well as its relationship to temporo-mandibular disorders. A protocal for diagnosis and treatment planning, as well as splint therapy is discussed. This is followed by a working classification of TMJ disorders, and numerous case examples describing the management of each category within the classification.

Historical Review Pertinent aspects of the literature will be reviewed concerning occlusion and the temporo-mandibular joint. A detailed discussion of static (centric) occlusion and functional occlusion will be presented. The controversial subject of centric relation will be reviewed. During this lecture a classification concerning the skeletal and dental components of TMJ dysfunction will be presented. n Diagnosis and Treatment Planning The diagnostic process for the TMD patient is reviewed. The benefits and use of the articulator will be reviewed. A three phase treatment planning process is then presented. n Splint Therapy A discussion of splint therapy will be presented as it relates to management prior to orthodontic treatment, as well as to management during orthodontics. n Molar Fulcruming Problems Cases that present with average to high mandibular

plane angles frequently show a molar fulcrumming problem. Several of these cases will be presented and the mechanics of their treatment will be described. n Lack of Vertical Posterior Support Cases that demonstrate a collapsed vertical dimension will be shown and methods of treatment of these cases will be described. n Management of Anterior Slides and Anterior Posturing A number of cases in this category will be presented with comments concerning the use and misuse of functional appliances. n Correction and Avoidance of Distal Displacemen Distal displacement of the condyle is frequently seen in patients with TMD. This subject is discussed and a number of cases within this category will also be presented. n Management of Lateral Skids and True Skeletal Deficiencies Discussion and case presentations concerning these two categories will be presented.

Prof. Dr. Kee - Joon LEE Dr. Kee-Joon Lee is the professor of the Department of Orthodontics, Yonsei University College of Dentistry, Seoul, Korea. He received DDS and PhD degree from Graduate school, College of Dentistry, Yonsei University. He completed the orthodontics specialty training in Yonsei University. He was a visiting scholar at the Departmen of Biochemistry, University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2002-2004 and at the Division of Plastic Surgery, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 2010-2011. He was an adjunct professor at the Department of Orthodontics, Temple University, and at the University of Pennsylvania (2010-2011). He has contributed many book chapters on biomechanics of miniscrew-driven orthodontics, non-extraction treatment in adults, up-to-date lingual orthodontic mechanics and surgery-first approached using TADs. He is the first who demonstrated the miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expander (MARPE) for adults in AJO-DO, which was cited by many other authors. He has published many articles and case reports regarding the treatment of non-eruption, and total arch movement for hyperdivergent face in orthodontic journals including two cover issues in AJO-DO. His fields in research include clinical biomechanics regarding TADs application and the suture and bone responses to orthodontic stimulus. He has served as a reviewer in major orthodontic journals, including AJO-DO, Angle Orthodontists and European Journal of Orthodontics. He has been invited to many international orthodontic conferences around the world.

COURSE PROGRAM In spite of the growing demand for the lingual orthodontic treatment among adult patients, biomechanical limitations in three-dimensional control of tooth movement and difficulties in the access to the lingual side still exist. In this course, an up-to-date lingual mechanics via combined use of virtual setup models, orthodontic miniscrews and self-ligating brackets(SLB)will be extensively demonstrated in the following aspects. 1. Simplicity in the diagnosis n Quick and easy diagnosis using three-dimensional template analysis n Visualization of treatment goal and midline-based disgnosis 2. Simplicity in the bracket bonding and alignment n Application of CRC tray for lingual SLB n Readily available rebonding system n Quick and easy leveling & alignment using universal leveling wire 3. Simplicity in the anchorage preparation n Symmetric/asymmetric anchorage using miniscrews n Total arch movement in lingual orthodontics 4. Simplicity in the torque control n Arbitrary torque control using single wire n Troubleshooting-loss of torque during treatment

CA Clear Aligners represents a well-established and esthetic solution for treating easy to moderate cases of malocclusion. With a history of over 10 years and more than 100.000 treated patients, the treatment philosophy behind CA Clear Aligner benefits from the developments in digital technology, for an increased degree of precision and predictability. For each step of the treatment the patient will be wearing 3 Aligners of the same conformation, with progressive material thickness, that will allow a gradual adaptation of the teeth to the exercised forces.

1. Create the model

2. Scanning process

3. Digital Set-Up

Create a plaster model of the patient’s jaw in your practice.

We digitalize the patient’s plaster model by using a 3D scanner for a 3D based diagnosis and treatment plan.

With highest precision and control, qualified and experienced staff will fabricate a custom-made digital set-up.

4. Rapid Prototyping On your approval, the set-up model will be produced according to the individual treatment plan using 3D printing method.

5. Fabricate the DIGITAL CLEAR-ALIGNER 7

DENTAL FOCUS

The Individua concept represents a digitally planned tray for high precision indirect bonding. The brackets are virtually placed in the optimal bonding position on the scanned model of the patient and then transferred on the malocclusion with the help of the Individua tray. The biggest innovation comes from the revolutionary used material, with soft elastic properties that allows precise capture of the bracket’s form and positioning, while preventing the tray from tearing during the bonding process. Due to the features of the tray bonding in under 4 minutes per arch is possible, resulting in a more comfortable bonding session for the medic, as well as for the patient.

Lingual retainer produced with CAD/CAM technology for a perfect adaptation to the individual shapes of the teeth and a considerably reduced size, that allows insertion also on the upper arch. The final format of the Memotain retainer is obtained by laser-cutting a sheet of Nitinol, according to a digitally established design. Due to the pseudoelastic properties of the material used and the production method that does not involve bending, the retainer does not have any predetermined weakening points.
