AGGIE SOCCER FIELD Aggie Soccer Field has been the home to the UC Davis men’s and women’s soccer teams since 1985. Built with primarily volunteer time and materials, Aggie Soccer Field is a product of the community’s dedication to the sport of soccer. The stadium bleachers, which have a capacity of 1,000 spectators, are the result of a 10-year project that reached completion in 1997. There are 65 nameplates affixed to the seat backs to recognize major stadium contributors. Additionally, an electronic scoreboard and high-fidelity sound system has been added to the facility. Furthermore, new restrooms and concessions were added to the baseball/soccer complex during the 2001-02 year. In the summer of 2005, the field was resurfaced with a Bermuda hybrid and a new irrigation system was installed. Mark Lucas, who had previously worked at Cal, returned to UC Davis to supervise this project. In 1994, Aggie Soccer Field was among those facilities invited to submit a bid to become a training facilities for the World Cup.

COACHING STAFF TWILA KAUFMAN

MARCELO ANTONELLI

Head Coach 2nd Year Arizona ’03

Assistant Coach 1st Year Campinas State ’99

Twila Kaufman, associate head coach for the Pepperdine women’s soccer team that advanced to four NCAA Tournaments including a Sweet 16 appearance during her 10-year tenure, enters her second season as the head coach of UC Davis women’s soccer. Kaufman brings extensive high-level experience as both a player and coach to the Aggies. Besides valuable experience with the Pepperdine Waves, she was also head coach of the Los Angeles Legends women’ soccer team and was a team captain during her four-year career as a starter at the University of Arizona. Kaufman joined Pepperdine as an assistant coach in 2004 before being elevated to associate head coach in 2008. The Waves have been one of the west coast’s most accomplished programs in that span, posting a 108-63-29 (.613) record while advancing four timesto the NCAA Tournament, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2005. Pepperdine made back-to-back appearances in 2011 and 2012. Kaufman was integral in all areas of the Waves’ program, including practice planning, academics, conditioning and game management. She also served as recruiting coordinator, annually bringing freshman classes that were nationally ranked by Soccer Buzz. Kaufman is known for recruiting balanced classes that feature highly touted players as well as hidden gems. Pepperdine has also sent several players to the international stage, including national teams for Iceland, Italy, Mexico, South Africa and the United States Under-23 team. Kaufman’s coaching experience covers various levels in the sport. The L.A. Legends were members of the USL W-League which featured some of the top women’s soccer in North America. She was also a volunteer assistant coach at Northern Arizona, was co-director at the Northern Arizona Training Academy. Kaufman has also been involved long term with Region IV Olympic Development Program and has been involved with the United States Soccer Federation national training centers, most recently asa director for the Los Angeles Training Center of Southern California. Kaufman is a 2003 graduate of Arizona where she earned her undergraduate degree in secondary education. That followed an outstanding playing career in which she started all four seasons and ended her career having played more matches than any Wildcat in team history, Kaufman etched her name on several top-10 lists, was a two-time honoree on the Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic team and was the team’s Rookie of the Year in 1998. She continued her playing career with the Arizona Heatwave of the W-1 League. Kaufman added a master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University in 2009 and earned her USSF National “A” license in 2010.

Marcelo Antonelli became the newest member of UC Davis women’s soccer’s coaching staff on May 20, 2015. He assists head coach Twila Kaufman and assistant coach with recruiting, and works with position players, but his primary responsibility is the recruitment and development of the program’s goalkeepers. Throughout his eight-year tenure at Saint Francis University, Antonelli mentored the top three goalkeepers in the program’s history: Lauren Fearer, Brianna Butcher and Jessica Boyer. Through Antonelli’s instruction, all three honed their skill sets and posted the lowest all-time goals against averages in school history: 0.89, 0.97 and 1.17 respectively. Under Antonelli’s tutelage, Saint Francis’ goalkeepers collected eight league defensive awards, two all-conference selections and multiple all-tournament honors starting in 2010 when the Red Flash finished the season as Northeast Conference champions for the first time in school history. That year marked the first of four consecutive years that Saint Francis won a league title. A Brazilian native, Antonelli was admitted to the physical education program at University of Campinas (São Paulo), where he competed as his school’s goalkeeper and served as the coach of Unicamp’s futsal team. Upon graduation, Antonelli rejoined the Guarani Futebol Club - he represented the organization as its futsal goalkeeper prior to his arrival at Unicamp - as the head coach of its girls soccer program and U17 boys soccer strength and conditioning trainer. As head coach, his girls teams captured a U15 national soccer championship and the U15 Brazil Futsal Cup. Before he joined the women’s soccer team at Saint Francis, Antonelli competed professionally in Italy for five years as a member of three different futsal teams: Reggiana Calcio, Pescara Calcio, and ASD Regalbuto. In addition to winning two Italian Cups, Antonelli was named his league’s best goalkeeper in 2004. Antonelli is a member of the NCSAA Region I coaching staff and holds a premier diploma from the organization. Joining Antonelli in California is his wife, Jenny, and their dog, Kiwi.

COACHING STAFF KATIE ADDISON

Aggie Support Staff

Assistant Coach 2nd Year Florida State ’12

EMILY DEERING Director of Soccer Operations 1st Year

Katie Addison (née Riley), who played in College Cups for both Stanford University and Florida State, enters her second season as an assistant coach at UC Davis in 2015. Addison, a native of Manteca, is the newest assistant added to new head coach Twila Kaufman’s staff. Kaufman said Addison brings key experience as player that will lend to her becoming an outstanding coach. She will assist the Aggie soccer program in conditioning, training sessions, game management and academic affairs. Addison began her collegiate career at Stanford, earning significant playing time in 2006 as a true freshman. She started 12 games that season as the Cardinal advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Severe knee injuries prevented her from playing the next two seasons but she remained a part of the program; unable to participate during the Cardinal’s 2008 Final Four run, Addison returned to the pitch the following season. After receiving her undergraduate degree at Stanford, Addison conducted behavioral science research and coached U11 girls’ soccer at the Palo Alto Soccer Club for a year before relocating to Tallahassee, Fla., for graduate school. Addison transferred to Florida State for the 2011 season and found immediate success with the Seminoles. She picked up four assists-two of them game winners-and played in all 25 games as Florida State won 18 and advanced to the College Cup. Once Addison earned her master’s degree in sport psychology, she relocated to Tempe to begin a Ph.D program in physical activity, nutrition & wellness at Arizona State. After completing a year of her program, Addison decided to forego the Ph.D and pursue soccer activities full-time when the Valparaiso Soccer Club selected her to coach its youth academy teams. When not on the field coaching, she worked for a company that organized 6v6 leagues and tournaments across the country. A 2006 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Stockton, SchoolSports. com, named her its California Division I Player of the Year after recording 31 goals and 40 assists as a senior. That season, Addison was selected as the Tri-City League’s most valuable player in addition to receiving Bay Area Soccer Player of the Year accolades from High School Sports Magazine. Throughout Addison’s tenure at St. Mary’s, the four-year letterwinner and three-year starter led her team to four league championships and two berths in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I finals.
