Administration and Finance Collaboration  Collaborated with Academic Affairs to coordinate Shimadzu Grant for research center.  Collaborated with Hubble Roth & Clark to apply for and receive $780,000 SAW grant to identify sanitary and storm infrastructure issues and develop a plan for addressing in future.  Contracted with Clark Construction in an attempt to bolster Physical Plant’s project management capacity allowing higher level of customer service. Diversity  Human Resources collaborated with International Programs for immigration education and individual status updates.  Worked with Civil Rights Department and others internally to identify areas of improvement for ADA accessibility issues and implementing a plan to address them. Ethical Community  Continued to cultivate good labor relations with union leaders and all employees. Excellence  Classroom Readiness has been exceptional in the upper 90 percent range for summer, fall, and spring semesters.  Extensive IT system upgrades including the firewall security network infrastructure and wireless network.  Completed housing investment projects to improve on-campus student living environment.  The Football staff identified students with stronger academic preparation coming out of high school to recruit. The average HS GPA and ACT test scores for the last three recruiting classes have been: 2015: 2.9 and 19.4; 2014: 2.9 and 18.3; 2013: 2.6 and 18.4.  Men’s basketball will have five of seven seniors graduate this summer. The other two will graduate next fall. Learning  Officers from DPS presented to numerous students at FSU, including athletics, housing, Greek student organizations, and traditional academic settings on topics ranging from active shooters, drug and alcohol abuse, preventing sexual assaults, campus safety issues, etc. Opportunity  Launched the Staff Center for Training and Development on time with interest, participation, collaboration and training topics exceeding expectations.  Housing and Residence Life implemented a new tutoring program within the residence halls. Other  Health Care Committee and Human Resources collaborated with our external benefits provider to develop a new Health Savings Account plan and education effective July 1, 2015.

Diversity and Inclusion Collaboration  Worked with Gloria Lukesa-Barnett, a Ferris professor, to supply educational materials for low-income students in Muskegon.  Met with Latino Community members in Grand Rapids to discuss strategies for Latino student and employee recruitment and retention at Ferris.  Worked with Retention and Student Success and a university-wide committee to address achievement gaps.  Redesigned the Student Affairs Diversity web site. Diversity  Worked with Ibis Consulting to conduct a diversity and inclusion audit of the University.  Collaborated with Office of International Education to sponsor and implement the Beyond: Diversity project, a series of lectures, workshops, performances, and classroom activities.  On April 14 saluted the Office of International Education’s work in increasing the number of International students—which now exceeds 500.  With the Asian Student Organization, Office of Multicultural Student Services, and Student Government sponsored the 2015 Asian Pacific Heritage Month celebration. On April 22, motivational speaker Hoan Do, who was featured on the television show “American Ninja Warrior,” visited FSU and presented a keynote address. Ethical Community  Conducted diversity training workshops with supervisors in the Staff Center.  Closed captioned 15 videos. Excellence  Faculty/Staff Diversity Mini-grants and Student Diversity Mini-grants fund much of the diversity and inclusion related activity through these initiatives.  Jim Crow Museum featured on “Ten Things You Didn’t Know,” a History Channel television show.  Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion received Insight Into Diversity Visionary Award.  Managed the First Lady’s Attic which supplied—free of charge—professional clothing to Ferris students who were scheduled for classroom presentations and job interviews. The Attic was relocated to the University Building this year.  Two FYI students graduated at the May 2014 Commencement.  Worked with the Ferris Youth Initiative (FYI), offering supervision and training of mentors and mentoring for FYI students. Learning  Sponsored Ferris students, faculty, and staff from Big Rapids and Grand Rapids joined the César E. Chávez Social Justice March and Community Gathering in Grand Rapids.  The Diversity and Inclusion Office worked with Disability Services to create a field trip to the DisArt exhibition in Grand Rapids.  Sponsored Mother Daughter TEA (STEM initiative funded by Diversity Mini-grant).

Government Relations and General Counsel Collaboration  Developed partnerships and established collaborative efforts with Kent Intermediate School District, Rockford Public Schools, Michigan State Bar Association, and the Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation to promote the University and the advancement of students.  Developed and continued strong collaborative and engaged relationship with business communities in Big Rapids and Grand Rapids to enhance a vibrant presence for the University.  Collaborated with multiple departments to conduct the University’s business, such as training, resolving employee issues, responding to state and federal compliance requirements, legal review of agreements and responding to Freedom of Information Act Requests. Diversity  Provided over 75 training programs across campus regarding anti-harassment, antidiscrimination, search committee, and inclusion advocacy.  Investigated and remediated over 30 complaints of discrimination, harassment, or other conduct in violation of University policies, including employee dignity, student dignity, Title IX and other allegations, either made internally to the University or externally to MDCR, EEOC, or OCR. Ethical Community  Fair and impartial investigation processing and administration of over 30 complaints of discrimination, harassment, or other conduct in violation of University policies with no sustained appeals or external findings contrary to internal investigations. Excellence  In collaboration with University Advancement and Marketing, commenced establishment of Pre-Law Scholarship. Learning  Employment of first-year law students as summer legal interns to provide experience in a law office setting. Opportunity  The Diversity and Inclusion Office is developing a New Faculty and Staff Resource Guide. This resource guide is intended to provide new faculty and staff with the information necessary to make a successful transition to the Big Rapids area. Student Affairs Collaboration  Birkam Health Center collaborated with School of Social Work and Honors to create Bystander Intervention Programming.  Increased employer partnerships expanded campus visits and representatives serving on the Career Center advisory board.  Enrollment Services created a campus-wide strategic enrollment plan team.  Enrollment collaborated with University Advancement and Marketing to create a new Commencement Program.  Registrar’s Office Collaborated with Academic Affairs to develop an electronic program change form and class waitlist registration tool.  Enrollment Services created campus-wide committee to review daily visit and Dawg Days.  University Center supported hundreds of faculty, staff and student events and meetings. Diversity  OMSS created Black Male Network to support Black Male students’ success.  Student Conduct collaborated with International Office to create educational videos on conduct and conflict resolution.  Integrated Haven, an online gender violence educational module. Ethical Community  CLACS hosted anti-hazing seminars for Greek Life students.  UREC staff training incorporated FSU dignity and respect policies.  Student Conduct engaged students in conversations regarding workplace ethics.  University Center reservation system implemented as a sustainable on-line reservations process and the University Center uses recycle containers throughout the facility. Excellence  Financial Aid hosted Get Real with over 1000 students learning about financial resources.  The Registrar’s Office served on the Michigan Transfer Agreement implementation team.  Multiple staff members participated on the Achievement Gap Taskforce.  OMSS programming recognized the graduation of underrepresented students at Ferris.  Hosted three admitted student open houses to assist students with learning about Ferris.  Hosted University Center grand opening events and subsequent later night programming. Learning  Student Conduct required students to engage in reflection about exhibited behaviors.  Staff participated in the Learn Lab Fellows Program.  Members of the Division actively participated in professional development opportunities. Opportunity  Collaborated with MCAN and Academic Affairs to place graduates in AdviseMI schools.  Purchased 300,000 names of prospective students to increase opportunity to attend college.  OMSS staff coordinated programming in GEARUP schools to create a college-going culture for 800 prospective students.  Staff members served on National Boards, as faculty at institutes, presented programs at professional conferences and received many local, regional and national awards.  Staff coordinated the First Impression program during the start of the Fall Semester. University Advancement and Marketing Collaboration  Completed the renovation of the Football Locker Room through a collaborative effort of the Saginaw Correctional Building Trades Program, Physical Plant, Athletics administration, players and coaches, and alumni  Partnered with Admissions to launch the Alumni Student Recruitment Toolkit program.  Implemented the Colleges Advancement Plan to more fully engage the deans in friendraising/fund-raising  Developed marketing/promotion campaign with Auxiliary Services to encourage student retention in the residence halls  Created a new website with Student Affairs for Title IX compliance featuring university and community resources for victims of sexual assault  Partnered with the Office of Multicultural Student Services to produce seven videos as part of the Transitions to Success program to help new students make a successful transition to Ferris  Collaborated with CLACS, Plastics and Rubber, Television and Digital Media Production, Pharmacy and Athletics on alumni event/board initiatives Diversity  Completed an expanded, bilingual website for the Center for Latin@ Studies Excellence  To better serve donors, all gifts to the university are now receipted and acknowledged through The Ferris Foundation  Restructured giving societies to deliver better donor service and promote continued giving  The Student Alumni Gold Club was presented Outstanding Internal Program for District 5 by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education Affiliated Student Advancement Programs (ASAP) for their Brutus Mascot Program. Learning  The Student Alumni Gold held the 6th annual Rake ‘n’ Run this fall with more than 300 students from 30 RSOs raking 135 lawns in Big Rapids Opportunity  Received $5 million to the College of Pharmacy, the largest outright gift to Ferris, to support student scholarships, building renovations and program development.  Raised $7.9 million in new cash and new pledges as of April 30 compared to $4.8 million a year ago  Exceeded last year’s Telephone Outreach annual giving program with 2,621 pledges (LY 2,137); and $152,643 in gifts (LY $132,466)  Hosted the 16th annual Ferris Foundation Benefit in October with $133,000 raised to support the Foundation’s Opportunity Scholarships and faculty/staff merit grants for 2015  Conducted $15 million scholarship campaign feasibility study to test receptivity to case for support  Developed the Ferris First social media pride campaign --- http://www.ferris.edu/ferr1s/
