SENIOR ACTIVITIES

COMMUNITY CENTER PROGRAMS

Community centers are integral to the neighborhoods they call home - Mt. Pleasant, Sterling, Freetown, Slater Hall, Happy Hearts, Woodfield, Staunton Bridge, and Brutontown. Neighbors gather for community meetings, health and wellness classes, and seasonal events. Young people engage in after-school and summer programs, and seniors find a wealth of opportunities for enrichment.

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Greenville County Rec is cool for after-school. Kids get homework help and a chance to be active with sports and games. Programs available at Slater Elementary School, Mt. Pleasant, Brutontown, Freetown, Sterling, Staunton Bridge Community Centers, and the Pavilion.

Seniors are a vital part of our programming, whether hurling horseshoes in the Senior Sports Classic or enjoying fellowship with friends on field trips. You will regularly find folks sewing, cooking, crafting, and learning how to improve and maintain their health. Programs offered at Freetown, Sterling, Mt. Pleasant, and Staunton Bridge Community Centers, as well as, Slater Hall Annex and Westside Aquatic Complex. For information on the Senior Sports Classic, call 864676-2180 ext. 126.

ATHLETICS YOUTH FOOTBALL

Ages 6-13 team registration is July 1-24. Season begins September 4. Youth Flag Football Association registration is January 19 - February 6. Season begins in March.

Joggers, walkers, and bicyclists will enjoy the GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail. This 18.6 mile paved greenway trail connects downtown Greenville, Furman University, and Travelers Rest. Additional sections in Fountain Inn and Lake Conestee Nature Park.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

Mountain bike skills area and pump track at Gateway Park. New mountain bike trails at Pleasant Ridge Park.

JFA Trail located at Pleasant Ridge Park is a 5.3 mile loop trail offering hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. GHS SWAMP RABBIT 5K May 1 / 6:30 pm / Downtown Traveler’s Rest / One of the largest 5K runs in South Carolina with a great celebration afterwards at Gateway Park. It is a Corporate Shield event so bring the co-workers. Register online at www.ghs.org/swamprabbit5k.
