ABOUT NOMADIC SANDAL STYLES SPRING 2015 ROPE ART HEMP SHOES UPCYLCED BOOTS NOMADIC APPAREL NICARAGUAN STORY

Picture yourself… anywhere. We at Nomadic State of Mind believe that while it may not always be possible to take your physical body to new and exciting destinations, you certainly can find small doses of time to let your mind wander into un-known territories. Whether you fancy physical travel (time travel or within this dimension), sense expansion (ever tried an unfamiliar cuisine?) or going for a ride with google earth into the depths of the globe to discover a small town in the other hemisphere– you have tapped into your Nomadic State of Mind… Now, take a peek into ours. Nomadic State of Mind, a grassroots-style handmade sandal company founded by Chris Anderson, began its voyage in the late 90’s. In the early years we ran the business out of a 1969 VW bus, which also served as Chris’ summer home (what nature loving, outdoor sports enthusiast, raft guide with a music guided-soul didn’t spend some time in a VW bus?). While we have come a long way since the days of Chris in his van, our philosophy has stayed consistent– If it is done right in the beginning, it will last a long time. Today “We” are: Chris, Entropy Engineer; Dave (Chris’ Dad), Shipping Guru and Disciple of the NY Garment Industry; Lara; rope salad engineer; and Kelly, Jeff, Ryan (your packing masters) a team of rope artisans, and distributors around the globe..At the turn of the century (the last one), Chris was introduced to a small community in Nicaragua that had been through some tough times and was in need of reliable income. He taught a small group how to make sandals, believing in fair trade and ethical practices, and sticking to our philosophy– Do it right. In the beginning, the road navigating the Wild West of Nicaragua was long and bumpy with scattered thunderstorms and occasional rainbows. But with perseverance and inspiration from lots of happy feet wandering the planet, we have found a home there for over a decade. So from a van by the river, to international availability and distribution

ABOUT NOMADIC

(we even opened a Nomadic State of Mind store in the country of Cyprus) we have continued to grow and “do it right”. Occasionally we let our imaginations take over, which has helped lead to an increased product line with the addition of various forms of rope art (using sandal scraps!), from handbags to water bottle carriers, to rugs and more.

Our apparel line uses organic cotton and recycled fabrics and the prints are inspired by Chris’ travel and photography over the years. The business is built from the heart and that’s apparent in the structure of the company as well. The company began it’s roots setting up sandal shops at outdoor music festivals throughout the country, and though the team and the company have grown, festivals are still a favorite activity for Chris and the crew and that’s where he can be found through much of the summer. Nomadic State of Mind is a growing team, and continues to design and build superb quality, affordably priced rope art sandals to market Made from real hands for real feet. Thanks for your support through the years! Peace. Love. good timess

Mountain Momma The “Mountain Momma” or “Mountain Poppa”, this unisex versatile sandal has a little less straps than the traditional JC, and an adjustable backstrap. Seen on all sorts of feet and the big screen.

TOE JOE Back by popular demand, the Toe Joe rope sandal was designed for those folks needing some big toe support, or toe bondage. Fully loaded with adjustable backstrap. Found on feet in the water, on the land, and on the beach.

SLIP ON The Slip On, also referred to as the house shoe and the prison slide. This style glides on and off with ease. Non adjustable as there is no backstrap. Enjoy them around the house, at the beach, or out of the backpack after a long day of hiking.

SAN JUAN The “San Juan” style was inspired by weeks of daily surfing in Nicaragua - when the mind finally calms enough to breathe with the flow of the ocean, and creativity once again appears from the horizon. This style has three straps across the top instead of one, alleviating strain on the sandal and foot.

WEDGE SANDALS

The Wedge, now a sandal - not just a famous surf spot. Available in women’s sizes only, because that’s who it’s made for. Rising you up above the heavens is the object, and we managed to get you about two inches higher! More of a night on the town sandal than a traveling the world sandal.

FLOWER FLOP

Our Flower power Flop with an adjustable back strap. Our flip flop rope sandal style with a little decoration for your toes. Available in womens sizes only.

WARRIOR SANDALS Our version of a “yoga sandal” - with an adjustable backstrap! Century old yogi’s recommend spreading your toes to assist in balance and alignment throughout the body, improving posture as well as bone and circulatory response. We are not in the business of claiming cure alls, but we have found they do seem to help with balance. Chris didn’t fall over once while trying these out hiking through Turkey!

MOKSHA SANDALS Spread the toes! The “yoga sandal” - without the backstrap! Inspired years ago by countless yoga classes and watching toes curl under with aging, which led to this style’s name. “Moksha” meaning liberation or freedom.

ROMANO SANDALS

Our gladiator style sandal with a thong between your big toe and interchangeble laces up the leg. Laces come in seven different colors and can be purhased individually or as a set. Mix and match for more fun! Get tyed up!

NONAME FLOP More like a traditional style flip flop, but our own version. Like no other - great for ease off and on, but not a trail hiker.

ECOLYTE SANDALS Using vintage sandal making equipment bought from a company that moved production to another country, we set up this machinery to make a simple sandal. Using a quality Vibram sole, with a super soft eva mid, high arch, followed by a layer of hemp canvas, and finished with a canvas strap - we made this sandal super comfy! For those who like to walk on hemp - that is all your foot is touching!

RECYCLED TIRES

UPCYLCED BOOTS These super colorful boots are sure to brighten any ones day. There are two styles: calf height (men and women), and just below the knee height (womens sizes only) The uppers of the these boots are made with up cycled vintage Guatemalan fabrics, and the bottom is a recycled auto tire, stripped down and cleaned. Even though we found years ago that the reused tires did not work well with our sandals, we have found they work very well with these boots. Boots are unique, each one is different, as we sell them, we put new pictures up online of the sizes. These are made in a shoe cooperative in Guatemala, by indigenous mayan family and friends. This project fits very well with our rope project, now you can wander the planet when it gets cold, with some hand made boots.

NICARAGUAN STORY Creating jobs, social responsibility, and environmental concern is the backbone concept of our company. We have been working and employing artists from the same community in the coffee production region of Nicaragua for the past 10 years. Each pair of sandals and other rope art directly supports efforts to help create sustainability in a small community in Central America. It is through making quality, wearable art that people love that we have been in business for over a decade. Thanks to the support of our customers we will continue to make sandals and use the scraps to make art and other products!
