Rules and Regulations

All shoots will be conducted using the Colorado 4-H State Shooting Sports Contest Rulebook. The rules and regulations will be strictly enforced. This rulebook may be accessed online at: https://www.colorado4h.org/ss/ss_contest/2012_colorado_4h_ss_state_contest_rule_book.pdf All contest areas are divided by Junior (ages 8-13) and Senior (ages 14-19) divisions. Ages are determined as of January 1 of the current year. Members must provide their own safety equipment as well as their own equipment and ammunition.

Requirements The Adams County 4-H Shooting Sports Contests are open to any 4-H member, between the ages of 8 and 18, who is currently enrolled in a shooting sports project and who has met all requirements of the shooting sports program, as detailed below: • All 4-H members participating in the Adams County 4-H Shooting Sports project must attend at least five county practices per discipline. o A county practice is defined as a shooting sports practice that is overseen by a certified shooting sports leader. o Practices at home or with a non-qualified shooting sports leader will not count as one of the county practices. o Members will be given an orange practice requirement card, which must be initialed or punched by a qualified shooting sports leader for each practice the member attends. In addition, an extension staff will attend at least four practices for each discipline, which will be posted in the e-minder or newsletter. Members must attend one of these practices and have their orange card initialed or punched by the extension staff. o Members must be enrolled in the Shooting Sports project as a 4-H member in order to receive their orange card. Practices that a member attends prior to enrolling in the 4-H program will not count towards the member’s requirement of five practices. o With entry forms to the county shoot, members must include their orange practice requirement cards, intialed or punched by a certifed leader, in order to compete at the shootoff. Only orange cards will be accepted, and coaches’ records of practice attendance will not be taken into account or any member. Practices completed after the entry form deadline will not be considered for orange card requirements. Failure to include a completed orange card with the shooting sports contest entry form will result in disqualification from the county shoot-off. o All county shooting sports practices will be published in the Adams County 4-H Fourcast Newsletter as well as through the weekly e-minders from the Extension Office at least 48 hours in advance.

• All 4-H members enrolled in a Shooting Sports Discipline are required to turn in one e-record book and shooting sports display for one of the shooting sports disciplines they are enrolled in for the year, which they will indicate on their Fair Enrollment Form (separate from these forms, available through the Extension Office).

• Each member is required to successfully complete the Colorado Hunter’s Safety Course. The member must have their hunter safety card before the county shoot-off.

• County shoot-offs will be held prior to the county fair at sanctioned county shooting practices. The dates will be advertised in the Adams County 4-H Fourcast Newsletter as well as through the weekly e-minders. o If you are in more than one discipline or have a conflict arise with the shoot-off date, you must make arrangements with the designated shooting sports leader in advance. The make-up shoot-off will be held during a sanctioned county shooting sports practice prior to the shoot-off date. • Each discipline has specific safety equipment that is required. 4-H members must have the required safety equipment to participate in each of the Shooting Sports Disciplines. For a list of what is required, please contact the Shooting Sports leader for each discipline.

Shooting Sports Project Entries at the Adams County Fair The Shooting Sports Contests and the Fair Entries are two separate events. 4-H members MUST complete a project poster and/or stand-alone display and record book in addition to the county shooting contest in order for their shooting sports project to be considered complete for the current year. Please remember: It is a Contest Policy that participants MUST complete the shooting sports project by exhibiting their project (posterboard and/or stand-alone display and record book) to be eligible for the Colorado State Fair or to compete in any discipline in the following year’s county shooting contest. In addition, members must receive a blue or red ribbon on their project in order to be eligible to compete in any State 4-H Shooting Sports Contest. You can find all exhibit requirements for your project at the state 4-H website: http://www.colorado4h.org/project_resources/gnr-projects/shooting_sports/ss_project.php This is separate from the County Shooting Sports Event. Each member must also complete an entry form for the Adams County Fair and schedule an interview for Interview Judging Day. Please read the Adams County Premium Book for all 4-H Project Rules that you are required to follow for the Fair Entries.
