CLEANLINESS IS HALF of OUR FAITH

The Islamic College is a very busy place right now. With only a few weeks  left of Term 1 there is a great deal of work to be done in classrooms. Years  3, 5 7 and 9 have the NAPLAN tests coming up early in Term 11, so they  need  to ensure that the required areas of the curriculum have been  properly covered.  Students have homework to do at nights and we expect  parents to check that they do it before going to bed early enough to get a  good night’s sleep.  Teachers also have their ‘homework’; there is a great  deal of preparation and marking to be done at nights and weekends.   You will have seen the building work going on in the primary school area.  In a few months’ time we will have four lovely new classrooms there to  accommodate our growing numbers of students.  At the other end of the  premises we have the new driveway which will soon be open for traffic to  enter from Cedar Ave and exit from William St, reducing many of our cur‐ rent traffic problems.  Our Board members keep a close eye on develop‐ ments and progress in these areas. As always, I ask parents to remember  their own responsibilities. It is important that every child:

 is well‐fed and clean  does homework as set by the teacher  has a good sleep every night  does not spend time on social media  comes to school every day as required by Australian Law ( if sick, bring  a doctor’s letter)  arrives at school on time every day (ie in time for prayers in the hall at  8.45am) has been told by parents about the value of learning The teachers and I thank you for your consideration in sending us children  who are ready and keen to learn.  Dr Pam Dettman

1 B     We have been very busy over the past few weeks in 1B. Students have begun reading testing with the teacher,  and parents should check communication books to be updates on reading progress. Please ensure that students  from 1B bring their tricky words to school on their allocated day to ensure they are tested with the teacher. We  have begun discussing the meaning of Harmony Day and look forward to celebrating it as a class this Friday.     Mrs Berry

Asslaam-O-Alaikum In last few weeks Kindergarten children were learning about Identity. So we arranged variety of activities to reinforce this concept. In week 2, we had morning tea with parents. We owe a big thanks to parents who send us lovely food to share. Beside this we are also learning about ourselves (parts of body, color of hair & skin). We incorporate this learning through songs and art activities. Our small literacy and numeracy groups are well settled now. Children are learning various Mathematics concepts and phonics in these groups. As a part of our curriculum we need to understand and respect the other cultures in our society. So we decided to learn about aboriginal culture. With the help of Multicultural Resource Centre we have got aboriginal artifacts, stories and games which children enjoyed in small group. In week 4 we also participated in Clean up Australia Day activities and cleaned our outside area in kindy. In week 5, Ms Zulekha arranged a fundraiser activity to raise funds for kindy’s outdoor equipment and home corner toys. We are thankful to all parent helpers who spent their valuable time to help us and made this event a success. We were able to make around 400 dollars from this fund raiser. Here we are sharing some of our activities photos with you. Kind regards Kindergarten Coordinator

Cleanliness A Muslim is always Pure and Clean. Allah Ta'ala loves those who are clean. Rasulullah [sallallahu alayhi wasallam] once said:"Allah Ta'ala is Pure and likes Purity, He is Clean and likes Cleanliness." (Tirmizi) Our Nabi [sallallahu alayhi wasallam] would always be neat and clean. He displayed the greatest amount of cleanliness. His clothes, his body and his house were always clean. As Muslims, we must follow this beautiful example of Rasulullah [sallallhu alayhi wasallam]. Our whole Deen (religion) is based on Tahaarah (cleanliness). One cannot even perform salaah or recite the Qur-aan if he I she is unclean. In the 11th para of the Qur-aan, Allah Ta'ala praises the people who built Masjidul Quba outside Madinah Munawwarah. Allah Ta'ala says, "It is better for you to perform Salaah (in Masjidul Quba) because in this masjid there are such men who love to clean themselves and Allah Ta'ala loves those who clean themselves." It is mentioned in the commentary of this verse that these men were very particular about Istinjaa. Whenever they went to the toilet, they would wash themselves with water and would also use clods of earth to ensure that they were completely clean and paak (pure). How important is it for a person to know how to use the toilet correctly? Being careless in this regard will cause a person to be punished in the grave. One must be extremely careful when using the high pan toilet as many a time the impure water splashes on one’s body when relieving oneself. May Allah Ta'ala bless us all with the quality of cleanliness and purity. Aameen. Year 6H The year 6 classes had a most enjoyable day at Semaphore Beach. Students were all well behaved and were able to collect and examine shells and sea grasses and saw evidence of crabs, sponges and a jellyfish. They viewed wave action and watched the tide coming in and saw the redevelopment of the foreshore with the planting of vegetation to anchor the sand dunes. They walked along the jetty and saw the change in the colour of the sea as it became deeper and then enjoyed a leisurely lunch and played on the play equipment. They brought back some sea items to use in their ocean dioramas. We are being very strict about the rules of wearing a hat for play and on sitting on a seat to eat and some students have already had a reflection for not complying. We are also sending notes to parents if children are late for school. They must attend in time for prayer which is at 8.45 a.m. Lessons start promptly at 9.00 a.m. On Wednesdays Students are learning basketball skills in a series of sessions provided by Tom, a specialist PE teacher. The second independent reading assignment is due on Friday 28 March so students should be reading their independent novel each night and completing 20 mins of maths as well. Their ocean animal poster is due this Friday and they have started a mini assignment on a person who was involved in Federation. This is to be presented as a booklet. Students are also working on a speech about a chosen topic of interest which they will share with the class next week. Please ask your child to share class work with you and check their assessment book to view their progress. Mrs E. Hewitt
