MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Newman Regional Health Foundation is to enhance the quality of health care for the residents of Lyon County and the surrounding counties by securing private gifts which support the mission of Newman Regional Health.

2014 HIGHLIGHTS Gifts in the amount of $712,353 were donated to the Newman Regional Health Foundation. Proceeds from these gifts are gifted back to support the mission of Newman Regional Health. Contributions have come as a result of special events, donor cultivation, general solicitation, grants for special projects, grateful patients, and memorials. $729,713 was invested back to Newman Regional Health for a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab, new medical equipment and technology, charity care, health care education, scholarship support for the Emporia State University Department of Nursing, Hand In Hand Hospice initiatives, and investment for future projects.

5TH ANNUAL DENIM & DIAMONDS BENEFIT IS A HUGE SUCCESS! Newman Regional Health Foundation is excited to announce that nearly $58,000 in net proceeds was raised through the 5th Annual Denim & Diamonds Benefit, held on August 1st. Monies raised are designated for a Sonosite® ultrasound in the W.S. & E.C. Jones Cardiovascular Lab, a surgical table in the Surgery Department, and future Foundation projects. The event continues to grow each year which reflects the value placed in Newman Regional Health and the services it provides for the community. New activities leading up to the main event generated excitement, made it possible for more people to participate, and added to the event’s success. The Kick-Off BBQ held June 27th launched the Denim & Diamonds Celebration, followed by the D & D Trade Show July 17th and Dining for Denim & Diamonds at Coach’s July 24th. Also, during the month of July, NRH employees paid to wear denim, capri’s, favorite scrubs, or special NRH t-shirts on Fridays to support Denim & Diamonds. Nearly 300 guests filled Webb Hall in the Memorial Union of Emporia State University to enjoy an evening that included a silent and mini live auction, dancing to the sounds of Mainstreet, a video highlighting the two Diamond Level sponsors, extra fundraising event features, and the announcement of Tom Mais as the winner of the blue and white diamond pendant generously donated by Kari’s Diamonds. JUNE BUG CANCER FUND IS CREATED IN THE NEWMAN REGIONAL HEALTH FOUNDATION under the care of Central Care Cancer Center in Emporia. The fund assists with some of the smaller cost of living incidentals that become more difficult to support as they struggle with their fight against cancer, such as transportation, lodging, food, and in some cases assistance with utility bills and acquisition of medical equipment such as wheelchairs or walkers. Approximately $35,000 has assisted patients with such expenses over the years. Those who qualify are asked to complete an application form which can be obtained at Central Care Cancer Center.

In 2007, employees of Central Care Cancer Center in Emporia established the June Bug Cancer Foundation, in honor of June Monnard Sauder, known as “June Bug” to her family. Mrs. Sauder was treated at Central Care Cancer Center for breast cancer for 11 months before her death in 2005. Newman Regional Health Foundation is pleased to announce that Mrs. Sauder’s legacy continues through the June Bug Cancer Fund, which is now a fund in the Newman Regional Health Foundation.

“Partnering with Newman Regional Health Foundation is important because it will increase June Bug Cancer Fund’s visibility in the community and will enable it to grow to meet the ongoing needs of our patients,” states Justin Branine, manager of Central Care Cancer Center in Emporia.

The purpose of the June Bug Cancer Fund is to help ease the burden of cancer for people 3

ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2014: Partnered with United Way of the Flint Hills to help bring the first book from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, The Little Engine that Could, to new babies born at Newman Regional Health. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a wonderful way to foster the love of reading and improve literacy. The books are delivered by “Read to Your Bunny” volunteers who already come to the hospital to visit parents. Beta Sigma Phi Chapters of Emporia hosted the annual Heart Dance on February 8th. Net proceeds of $4,165 were designated to the Beta Sigma Phi Endowed Fund, which was established in 2010, and Cardiac Services at Newman Regional Health. The Foundation and Lyon County Law Library co-sponsored a CLE workshop for attorneys called “Building a Flexible Estate Plan.” The presenter was Terri Munsell, Vice President and Legal Counsel for UMB Bank. The workshop was held on April 9th at the Trusler Business Center. For the sixth year, Newman Regional Health Foundation was one of the sponsors of ESU Volleyball’s Breast Cancer Awareness Night on October 17th. The June Bug Foundation was the recipient of donations from the sale of pink t-shirts, and a drawing was held to win a specially decorated Breast Cancer Awareness cake, autographed volleyball, and team poster. A sponsor of the Senior Prom hosted by the Emporia State University Student Athlete Advisory Committee and Presbyterian Manor Soup Supper. Partnered with Newman Regional Health and the Auxiliary to give a gift basket to the first baby of the New Year. Publication of Foundation News, a newsletter emailed to donors and placed in lobbies.

DONORS’ IMPACT ON NEWMAN REGIONAL HEALTH Below are items and initiatives that our donors have made possible through their generosity. Equipment purchased with these philanthropic dollars is used every day to help care for people from around the Lyon County area. Funds for education initiatives support students as they pursue a health care career with less financial worry. Thanks to the generous community support of the 5th Annual Denim & Diamonds Benefit, a Steris® surgical table was purchased with a portion of the proceeds from this year’s event. The table is a highly versatile general surgical table, giving the surgical team the flexibility, control, and convenience they need for today’s patients and procedures. Electro-hydraulically operated, the table is designed to accommodate virtually all patients with generous weight and height ranges, contours to most patient postures with a four section tabletop, and provides access for C-arm, permitting high quality images crucial to a multitude of procedures. “The Perioperative department is very excited for our new surgical

table! The new table will enhance patient safety, facilitate surgery exposure, and optimize workplace ergonomics,” states Amanda Sandstrom, perioperative supervisor.

State of the art equipment in the cardiovascular lab was made possible by the generosity of the W.S. & E.C. Jones Testamentary Trust. 4

Amy Feldkamp and Donald Wilcox were selected for the 2014 Health Care Student Intern Program sponsored by the Newman Regional Health Foundation. Amy graduated in May 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry. She was an honor student and very active in various activities on campus. Donald graduated in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and an Entrepreneurship Minor. Donald is also an honor student and is a member of the track team. Students are exposed to a variety of different areas learning about direct patient care and “behind the scenes” roles and how they indirectly contribute to patient care. Beta Sigma Phi Endowed Fund has reached an endowed amount of $14,490. Resources will be available for cardiac services for future generations. Funds for charity care at Newman Regional Health. Scholarships for students at Emporia State University Department of Nursing. Investment to Foundation Board restricted endowed funds – Advanced Technology, Endowment Growth, Lifetime of Learning, and future Foundation projects.
