2011 Social Impact Report

Accelerating social change by strengthening organizations today while developing leaders for tomorrow.

A Message from our Leadership Dear Friends, Greetings! As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we are proud to share highlights of the past decade and specific snapshots of this past year. For ten years we have pursued our unique mission: accelerating social change by strengthening community organizations today, while developing leaders for tomorrow. As we enter our second decade, we are pleased to share our achievements and to announce a new multi-year partnership with Accenture. We look back on our first decade with pride, and look forward to working with new and long-term partners to expand our impact going forward. When New Sector Alliance first became a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2001, we envisioned a “New Sector” where academic, business, and social sector leaders would work collaboratively to address society’s most pressing challenges and opportunities. During the past decade, we have leveraged the talents of well over 1,000 business leaders as consultant mentors and trainers, engaged over 1,000 new emerging leaders in the social sector, and created lasting and meaningful partnerships with over 400 academic institutions and nonprofit clients. We are well on our way to establishing that “New Sector.” The stories and information in this report detail some of the highlights of this past year, which build upon 10 years of accomplishments. Over the past decade New Sector program participants have served hundreds of clients, creating management systems, enhancing program design, mobilizing volunteers, and contributing thousands of hours toward organizations’ ability to effectively build a healthier, safer, and more equitable and sustainable society. We are proud that 99% of the nonprofit clients who hosted our Residents or Fellows have reported that New Sector had a measurable impact on their organizations and beneficiaries, and over 90% want to host another New Sector Resident or Fellow. Meanwhile, 95% of Residents and Fellows have indicated that New Sector’s program has increased the effectiveness with which they will contribute to the social sector. We more than doubled in size by launching programs in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2010-2011. Now, with the generous support of Accenture, we are enhancing and expanding our training curriculum, as well as developing program activities to support veterans as agents of social change. We are deeply grateful for each of our supporters and partners along the way. On behalf of our Board of Directors and staff, thank you for being part of the New Sector community.

With warmest regards,

Carlin B. Janson CEO & Founder

Harry (Hap) Brakeley Chair, Board of Directors 3
