OTTERBEIN ENTERS OAC TILT FRESH: Otterbein returns to action this Saturday after last weekend’s bye. Two weeks ago, the Cardinals claimed an exciting 2827 overtime victory at Gallaudet (D.C.). Senior wide receiver Fortin Faustin caught a 25-yard touchdown on the first play in overtime to give the Cardinals a 28-21 edge. After allowing a Gallaudet touchdown, Otterbein made a defensive stand on a two-point attempt to secure the season opening win. Senior wide receiver Trey Fairchild led Otterbein with eight catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns.
GAME NOTES LAST MEETING: The then 11th-ranked Ohio Northern Polar Bears scored on its first two possessions and held then 18th-ranked Otterbein scoreless in the second half to win 34-10 at Memorial Stadium in Westerville. Although the Cardinals only trailed 14-7 at halftime, Otterbein committed four turnovers in the second half which resulted in 14 points for the Polar Bears. STOPPING THE RUN: The Cardinal defense held their own last week against one of the top running attacks in D-III. Gallaudet finished 2010 ranked 11th in the nation, while averaging 263.4 rushing yards per game. Otterbein was able to limit the Bison to 126 yards on the ground, while only allowing a long of 15 yards. ANYTHING BUT PLAIN: Senior quarterback Austin Schlosser had a career performance at Gallaudet. The Plain City native threw a career-high 271 yards with zero interceptions while completing 15 of 19 passes, and tied his career-high for touchdowns (3). Schlosser also tossed his longest completion of his career on a 93-yard touchdown pass. RACKING UP THE YARDS: On the receiving end of Schlosser’s career day was senior Trey Fairchild. The 5-11 wide receiver set career-highs of his own at Gallaudet, most notably his 93-yard touchdown reception in the 2nd quarter. Fairchild finished the evening with a career-high 196 yards receiving on eight catches and two touchdowns. IN THE MIDDLE OF IT ALL: Senior linebacker Shane Centers was all over the field at Gallaudet. The Zanesville native collected a career and game-high 15 tackles, 13 unassisted, and leads all OAC defenders in both categories.
STATISTICAL COMPARISON THE SERIES: Although the Polar Bears lead the overall series with Otterbein 33-18, the Cardinals have enjoyed recent success against Ohio Northern, claiming two of the last three meetings.

GAME NOTES CARDINALS IN OAC OPENERS: Otterbein is 6-13-1 (.300) since 1991 in OAC openers. The Cardinals are 4-4 in OAC openers under head coach Joe Loth. QUIETLY EFFECTIVE: While the passing game proved effective against Gallaudet, the steady play of junior running back Brock Burzanko forced the Bison to not totally commit to the air attack. The Burton native averaged 4.0 yards per rush on 16 carries and added a reception out of the backfield for 12 yards. KING FOR A WEEK: Junior punter Aaron Kingcade took over the punting duties for the Cardinals this year and after week one was named co-Special Teams Player of the Week in the OAC. His punts of 54 and 53 helped him average 46.8 on five punts. Kingcade also added a punt inside the 20, and narrowly missed a second.
MISSING A CORE PLAYER: Senior defensive back Anthony Korpieski established himself as one of the top corners in the OAC last season. He led the conference in interceptions and was named second team All-OAC in 2010. Korepieski missed the opener at Gallaudet First Year of Football..................... 1890 after suffering a pre-season injury.

touchdown. Pentello, a transfer from D-II Ashland, is in his first season with the Cardinals. EARLY SEASON ERRORS: The Cardinals commited nine penalties at Gallaudet resulting in 84 yards, most notably in the first quarter on a 4th and Goal from the 1-yard line. The Cardinal defense stopped Gallaudet, but an offside penalty gave the home team another oppertunity, and they capitalized.
RED ZONE FRUSTRATIONS: The Otterbein offense converted their first red zone chance at Gallaudet when Schlosser connected with senior wide receiver Steve Kuzyk on an 11yard touchdown in the first quarter. But the Cardinal offense failed to convert any of their final three oppertunites, including when a 32-yard Aaric Milligan field goal attempt to win the game was blocked as time expired. AFL CHAMPIONS HAVE WESTERVILLE TIES: A defensive standout from 2000 to 2004, Micheaux Robinson recently helped the Jacksonville Sharks win the Arena Football League Championship. The 5-9 defensive back led the Sharks this past season with 11 interceptions and was the team’s second-leading tackler with 114.5 stops. His 13 interceptions at Otterbein remains a school record that he shares with current head football coach Joe Loth.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Otterbein Cardinal defense made a gamewinning stop on a two-point conversion try in overtime to secure a 28-27 win, at Gallaudet. With the score tied, 21-21, Otterbein had an opportunity to win the game in the closing seconds of regulation, however Aaric Milligan’s 32yard attempt was blocked, sending the game into overtime. In overtime, the Cardinals struck quickly, as senior quarterback Austin Schlosser threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Fortinal Faustin on the first play. Schlosser’s pass was deflected in the end-zone by senior tight-end Gabe Shively, but the opportunistic Faustin snagged the ball for the Cardinal touchdown. With the converted extra point, Otterbein took a 28-21 lead. Gallaudet answered back with a 9-yard touchdown pass by Gabriel Paulone to Ryne Worsham on a fourth and two conversion. The Bison elected to go for the win, and on the 2-point conversion try Paulone was stuffed by the Cardinal defense, to secure the victory for Otterbein.
