Information By law, employers are responsible to provide suitable respiratory equipment to employees who need respiratory protection for the task they are executing. They also have a responsibility to provide proper training in its use and maintaining the equipment in good order. The first responsibility for any employer or sole worker is to assess the hazard which is likely to hinder normal breathing. Such hazards commonly encountered are:-
DUST – MISTS – METAL FUMES – GASES – VAPOURS –
Produced when solid material is broken down into fine airborne particles. Tiny liquid droplets formed by atomisation and condensation processes such as spraying. Fumes which occur when metals are vaporised under high temperature and the vapour cools quickly and condenses into very fine particles that float in the air. Substance in gaseous form at room temperature. Often odourless and invisible. Gases which form when liquids or solids evaporate at room temperature.

All respiratory equipment supplied has been tested to the relevant European standard. Employers should arrange fit testing of respiratory equipment for wearers of half and full face masks and disposable respirators if they wish to comply with the latest Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (CoSHH) and The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations (CAW).
