1999 SPRING FIELD DAYS Gumom J.E. WELSH Spring cwtnts w m reported for 10 locations across the state with date ranging from 24 April to8 May. Birders idenaed 208 @es and a totd of 59,648 individuals on m t days, plus a Green-winged Teal found only during count week (Table 1). Thuty-two spedeswere h d on only one count, wh18 spedes w m found on only two c o u n ~S. i - e i g h t species were observed on all 10 counts. The Nashville count recorded the highest species total (158); Hamilton County was d o e behind with 157species.The Hamilton Co,Nashville, Knox Co., and Elizabethton counts had the most participants with 30,29,27, and 26. Level of effort varied considerably among counts with Clarksville accounting for the most party hours and party miles (Table 1). Species o k e d on only one count included Anhinga, Snow Goose, Greenwinged Teal, Northern Shoveler; Canvasbak Bufflehead, Ruddy Duck, Mississippi Kite, Peregrine Falcon, Common Moorhen, Black-nded St* Wdl& Whiterum@ Sandpipq Dunlin, Short-billed Davitcher, Caspian Tern, Forster's Term, Eurasian Collared-Dove, Blackbided Cuckoo, Northern Saw-whet Owl,Yellowbellied Sapsudcer, Willow Flycatchec Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Fish Crow, Bmwnheaded Nuthatch, Brown Cmeper, Bewick's WEQ American Pipit, American Tree Sparrow, ~ustylackb bird, Red Cbsbill, and Pine Siskin. Interntingly Black-billed Cuckoos were detected on only one count while Yellow-billed Cuckoas were detected on all 10counls. The five spring counts that were conducted in conjunctionwith the North American MigrationCount on 8 May anotd in Table 1 on page 125.M t s from these counts are reported here as well as in Hoff and Joslin(1999).
