The LOVE LUTON HALF MARATHON Under UKA rules UKA Licence No. 16/182 SUNDAY 30th October 2016 at 9am Dear Runner Congratulations on your entry into the Love Luton half marathon, we hope your training is going well and look forward to seeing you on the day. Race number and chip timing: Your race number and chip timing can be collected from 7:30am on race day. Please remember the clocks go back an hour on Sunday 30th October. Pick up is the starting point at Stockwood Park Athletics Track. Your number is personal to you and must not be used by another competitor without the prior consent of the race organisers. Secure your number to the front of your running vest with 4 pins (one in each corner), and ensure that it is clearly visible.

Your race number will be on publicised on the website on the week of the half marathon. www.loveluton.org.uk/halfmarathon. Please can you check the details we have for you are accurate as your first name will appear with the race number. The race chip should be secured following the instructions that come with the chip. On race day if you do not wear your chip you will not be registered with an official finish time. When you complete the race if you make your way to the Active Training World marquee which will be located near to the finish line - you will need to enter your race number into the machine. It will give you a print out of your running time and overall position. You will need to give it at least 15 seconds after completion of the race. A provisional results board will also be on display at the event. The results of the race will also be emailed to you. Location and facility details and how to get there: The race and start line is located at Stockwood Park Athletics Track,

Farley Hill, Luton LU1 4BH. There are four designated car parks for runners. There is the Stockwood Discovery Centre car park which is accessed via London Road or one of three car parks within Stockwood Park, which are accessed via Farley Hill.

If you need to leave promptly after the race you are advised to park at the Discovery Centre car park on London Road. Please follow marshals instructions at all the car parks. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS ONLY LIMITED SPACES IN THE CAR PARK OPPOSITE THE PLAY AREA. PLEASE ENSURE YOU FOLLOW THE MARSHAL’S INSTRUCTIONS SO YOU AREN’T BLOCKING THE COURSE. When you arrive at the car parks marshals will direct you. You can access the car parks from 7:15am. Allow yourself sufficient travel time as we do not want to see anyone wasting their training by missing the start. Changing rooms, toilets and showers will be provided at Stockwood Athletics Centre and additional toilets will be available outside. Sports massages will be provided courtesy of Barnfield College. These will be free of charge but runners may make a small donation to charity. This will be available before and after the race and will be located with the changing area. The Race’s start line is on the track. Runners should assemble in the designated assembly area at 8.45 a.m. Lining up should be done in your estimated time for finish e.g. 1 hour to 1hr 30 minutes at the front; 1 hr 30 to 2 hrs in the middle etc. Your time does not begin until you run across the mat which activates your chip timer.

The closest train station to the start is Luton Parkway or Luton Central which are short cab drive away or approximately 30 minute walk. Trains run from St Pancras and from the north, please check the timetables for details of any planned engineering works and train times. Do not leave any possessions in the changing rooms. There will be a baggage point in the baggage area marquee. This facility will be supervised but no responsibility can be accepted for loss or damage. Should you wish to make use of this service please see the marshals staffing the baggage area they will fill out a baggage label to correspond to your race number, your bag will be returned on presentation of your race number. All competitors will be taken back to Stockwood Athletics Track on a regular shuttle bus. We may be able to accommodate family members but priority goes to the runners. The race finishes in Luton Town Centre where there is also ample parking if you would prefer to park there and walk to the starting point. The course: The 13.1 mile course is a closed road race therefore runners have full access to the road. Please note there will be some car movement in the Luton Hoo, but this will be rigorously managed by Marshals and there will be full signage. Distances will be shown in miles and the route will be sign-posted with marshals in attendance.

Obey marshals’ instructions at all times. Across the course runners should generally keep to the left unless instructed otherwise but marshals and/or signage will give you clear directions. RUNNERS ARE STRONGLY ADVISED NOT TO WEAR EARPHONES WHILE COMPETING IN THIS EVENT FOR SAFETY REASONS. If a runners fails to obey (or hear) instructions from the police or a marshal, he/she will do so at their own risk and the race organisers will not be held responsible. Dogs (or other animals) will not be allowed to accompany runners and neither will unauthorised cyclists be permitted to accompany runners. The finish is in the town centre adjacent to the Town Hall. The course is not considered suitable for wheelchairs. Water stations will be sited at approximately 3 mile intervals which are: 3 & 6 mile Luton Hoo Estate (double water station located between 3 & 6) 9 mile Old Bedford Road 12mile Wardown Park Finish Line The course has a 3 hour time limit. Finishing times will be displayed on a clock at the finish.

Finisher’s medals will be presented at the end of the finish funnel to all those completing the half marathon. All runners will receive a goodie bag. Photographs will be taken of runners at the finish and out on the course, which will be available for inspection and purchase via the website – www.loveluton.org.uk/halfmarathon. Presentations to the winners of the half marathon will take place at Stockwood Park Athletics Track at around 12 noon (could be slightly earlier but we will announce this). Prize categories are first three males and females in the half marathon and Vet prizes will be awarded to the first male and female finishers in 5 year age groups (Female from 35 and Male from 40). It is not possible to win more than one award on the day. On the day, please do not run if you feel unwell or have been unwell on the days prior to the event. Nearly all medical emergencies occur in such circumstances. It is unfair to yourself, your family and marshals to risk becoming a medical emergency. There is always another race. Should you have a medical condition that first aid should be aware of, please give details on the reverse side of your race number. The event is fully supported by St. John’s Ambulance and first-aiders will be in attendance. It could be cold on the day so please do wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. The goodie bags contain a foil blanket so please put this on at the end of the race.
