I

nnovation in the defence industry is flourishing everywhere, from small businesses to prime contractors, with new products and solutions coming to market all the time. Whether it’s demonstrating the latest cutting-edge technology, a novel application for established technology, feats of engineering and manufacturing genius or scientific research breaking new ground altogether, the defence supply chain always delivers innovative and effective products to meet defence and security requirements across the globe. The importance of innovative new products to defence customers is unquantifiable – threats are always evolving and so must defence solutions. Threats find form in a variety of different ways and businesses in the defence sector are swift and resourceful in responding to, and even predicting, such threats to both national and commercial security. New products appearing in the defence market are invariably impressive in operation, whether as stand-alone innovations or as integral components of larger defence solutions. Defence customers also have requirements that extend way beyond core defence equipment, and again industry has proven time and time again to be highly agile in meeting these demands through the

solutions it develops. In short, defence relies on the products developed by industry. Defence and Security Equipment International is the world’s premier defence and security trade show, with the 2015 event set to welcome over 30,000 attendees at London’s ExCeL exhibition centre from 15 to 18 September. It’s an audience that will span top-level international military staff, senior defence procurement officials and the entire industry supply chain, from the largest of prime contractors to some of the most niche technology pioneers. It is for this reason that a variety of exhibitors choose DSEI as their platform to launch new products directly to the marketplace. Interest in new defence products is always high, but surely never higher than at DSEI. DSEI 2015 will showcase products from all domains across defence in a variety of themed zones. Whether you are interested in land, sea, air, medical or even counter terror solutions, there will be defence businesses exhibiting relevant products at the event. DSEI will bring together the entire defence and security industry to source the latest equipment and systems, develop international relationships and generate new business opportunities. DSEI is a launch pad for new products.

In this special supplement, MOD DCB is showcasing some of the innovative new products you will encounter this year at DSEI. These products are the culmination of long periods of research and development, and reflect an intense drive and ambition to meet the evolving needs of defence customers at home and abroad. There is much to see over four busy days at DSEI 2015 and the solutions featured in this supplement offer a flavour of the calibre of new products on show at the event. Be sure to take a close look at what’s on offer at DSEI, particularly the products in this supplement, and visit the relevant stands to see the solutions on display. One thing you are guaranteed at DSEI 2015 is that you will discover innovative cutting-edge products, finished to the highest possible standard, ready for use by defence customers around the world. The products in this supplement represent an impressive sample of the many supply chain solutions and innovations sure to shape and drive the defence market in 2015 and beyond.

SSDL adds Ethernet back-up and restore capability to its SCSIFlash® replacement drives for critical legacy computer equipment Solid State Disks Ltd (SSDL), have announced a new Ethernet capability for its Compact Flash (CF) based solid-state drives, providing a network capability and life extension for critical legacy systems. The SCSIFlash drive is targeted at applications where disk, tape, floppy and MO drives are difficult to repair or replace as they become unreliable or obsolete. A drop-in replacement, SCSIFlash provides a highly reliable and low-cost alternative to a complete system upgrade. The new SCSIFlash feature enables back-ups of a complete image of its CF card whenever required, allowing the image to be transferred via secure network and restored later. Universal TCP is used for disk image transfers with remote execution of back-up and restore operations controlled by either a user API or via a web browser should security restraints allow. The product offers far greater environmental tolerance than the mechanical electro-magnetic drives it replaces with a factor 1000 improvement in MTBF.

• SCSIFlash is an industrial OEM grade SSD offering a CF capacity up to 128GB

• Fast, efficient field replacement with engineering support as required

• Zero impact on the existing legacy host software OS, drivers, diagnostics or hardware

• Reduced power consumption, noise and heat dissipation

• Dedicated embedded firmware exactly emulates the legacy target SCSI device from disk and tape to floppy and magneto optic drives

• No additional software is required, no register changes.

DVS will be exhibiting: a Covert driving system. b Merged image range finder. c Long range surveillance system

VS offers a system using two different wavelength sensors, mounted behind a common objective lens with the output provided as a blended image. This combination of SWIR and Visible, used in conjunction with a 1550nm LRF, enables the warfighter to see the LRF spot on the target.

Email: [email protected]

Based on this successful DUAL BAND system, DVS is now developing a TRI-BAND system. This new system incorporates LWIR, SWIR and Visible channels, again mounted behind a common objective lens. The output from the system can be selected as individual images or as a blended image, enabling the user to view and evaluate any single channel or, by blending, to enhance the viewed image.
