I am so thankful to the YMCA, the staff, the trainer and the Kid Zone. You guys make it such a family oriented atmosphere, you care about your members and make it fun.

BETTER TOGETHER Dear Y Supporter,

We always feel welcome and encouraged to come and keep coming. The YMCA has helped my family become

130 years… that’s how long the Y has been strengthening our community. We’ve had good times and bad times. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s always been rewarding.

happier, healthier and

It’s been rewarding because it’s always been the people in our community, working together to make a difference. This hasn’t changed. We’ve spent a lot of time this past year asking you how we can improve the Y. You shared your ideas, and we’ve seen changes as a result - extended hours of operation, addition of sports opportunities, addition of equipment and programs for seniors and rehabilitation needs - to name a few. Today, we’re still making our community BETTER TOGETHER. This coming school year will be no different. We have a lot of exciting things happening, thanks to your input and support.

a lot more

Thank you Y! - Meg D

10,000+ donors 5,400+ volunteers

• Construction of a Newton YMCA begins, returning the Y to Harvey County • New YMCA Farha Sport Center Indoor Courts open in Andover • We sadly bid farewell to our longest-serving CEO, Dennis Schoenebeck, when he retires in January. To honor his accomplishments, we are adding his name to the North YMCA. • We warmly welcome a new CEO to our Y family • Expansion of the North YMCA waterpark begins, to open in May As with everything at the Y, you make this possible. We truly are BETTER TOGETHER. Thank you for your continued support.

REACH NEW HEIGHTS

At the Y, we know that when a kid masters a new skill it’s about more than simply reaching a goal. It’s about building a positive self-image. It’s about the journey to reach that goal which meant listening to and following directions, overcoming obstacles and facing fears, and developing perseverence and self-confidence by not giving up when previous attempts failed.

Participants discover basic coordination skills and tumbling. No skills required. 30-minute class | FEES: $24/month M

Children are like sponges – they watch and absorb knowledge, skills and values from everything and everyone around them. At the Y, we understand this and surround kids with learning opportunities that become the building blocks for future success.

4 Steps to Choosing THE BEST CHILD CARE 1. Choose a program that’s fun, educational, nurturing and will grow with your child’s needs. 2. Verify that your provider is licensed and/or accredited and caregivers have proper training. Note: Accredited centers voluntarily meet higher standards than state licensing requires.

4. Make your choice and stay involved. Your child’s care is a partnership. Participate in activities and see first-hand what your child is doing and learning.

REACH & RISE™ Youth Mentoring Program Together with local adults, we’re building better futures for kids and teens and helping them reach their fullest potential through the Y's FREE Reach & Rise™ mentoring program. Mentors gain listening and support skills while making a difference in the life of a child or teen in need of a positive role model. Youth have diverse upbringings, coming from different cultures and backgrounds who may have experienced poverty, crime, truancy, or other social issues, or come from a single-parent household. Nearly one in five youth live in poverty and are at risk of falling prey to crime, drugs and other hurdles that could keep them from reaching a productive adulthood, obtaining an education and successfully entering the workforce, but research also shows that youth are more likely to succeed with the support of a caring adult. Learn more at ymcawichita.org/mentor. To volunteer to be a mentor or learn about enrolling a child in the program, contact the program’s coordinator at [email protected] or 316.264.1610 x5543. 38

Greater Wichita YMCA | facebook.com/ymcawichita
