LOCATION

The San Diego Latino Film Festival has used the unique geographical and cultural position of San Diego, one of our country’s finest cities and attractive destinations for international travelers. San Diego is also unique in that it is an important part of the Border Region making the festival a premiere venue for the exhibition of international and U.S. Latino features, shorts and documentaries. The festival is located in Mission Valley, the heart of San Diego, home to large shopping malls, retail shops, restaurants, office space, luxury hotel accommodations and more. Mission Valley is the ideal venue to reach the 4 million-plus Latinos living in the County as well as in Tijuana. It is estimated that the buying power for this Latino population is $12.5 billion which includes retail sales of $3.0 billion. San Diego Latino/Tijuana market is the third largest Latino market in the United States!

Since 1994, SDLFF has received extensive coverage in the following publications, TV stations and radio stations:

ECONOMIC IMPACT The benefits of a large festival such as the San Diego Latino Film Festival to a community are of two basic types. One is the measurable economic impact of jobs and spending generated by the festival that infuses dollars into the economy. The other is the more subjective social and psychological benefits that cannot be readily quantified, but contribute to the community’s quality of life, entertainment options and opportunities, sense of civic pride and identity, and overall attractiveness as a business and visitor destination. Over $400,000 was directly infused into the local economy (i.e. hotels, restaurants, movie theater, shops, printing companies etc.) as a result of the 2006 San Diego Latino Film Festival. The full economic impact is greater than $400,000 because the money does not stop in the businesses where it is spent. These businesses spend the money again in many ways (i.e. salaries, taxes, insurance, etc.).

BOARD OF DIRECTORS Charles Simpson (Coca Cola), Vicki Estrada (Estrada Land Planning), Kristine Diekman (California State University, San Marcos), Judy Harper (Synergos Institute), Gonzalo Lopez (San Diego Metropolitan Transit Development Board), Mark Burgess (sandiego.com, Inc.), Mark Madero (CinemaStar Luxury Cinemas), Gabriel A. Martinez (Armando Martinez & Company), Linda Caballero-Merritt (San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce), and Alberto Cortes (Mama’s Kitchen).
