At anchor in Islands of Auckland
My love in life has always been yachts. I love the feeling you get from strolling the teak decks, fine wine at sunset and dining with a few close friends. Not to mention these same friends sharing the excitement of discovering beautiful new destinations with interesting and sometimes challenging activities each day. When I designed “Island Passage” the instructions were simple: I wanted a luxurious layout, spacious and comfortable for a maximum of 24 like-minded travellers. Similarly, I wanted oversized cabins, generous en-suite bathrooms, wide halls and decks that would prevent any feeling of being cramped and critically important to create an overwhelming feeling of being on board a small private yacht. I wanted an experience designed around the little details that really mattered; fine linens, ever changing selection of natural soaps and shampoos, nightly turndown service with delicious chocolates and bottled water, the fresh smell of flowers, ample lighting, storage and seating areas, individually controlled air conditioning in each cabin, fabulous cuisine and a crew who love to be of service to our guests. My other passions are food and wine - simply put, every meal has to be magnificent. Local seafood, maybe even some that you caught yourself, is featured daily. You’ll enjoy other delicacies and organic artisan foods produced locally. The best New Zealand organic lamb and Angus beef, fresh produce selected from local farmer’s markets, award winning cheeses and all presented by chefs with strong Pacific Fusion flair. Our on-board wine cellar is brimming with a selection of award winning Australian and New Zealand wines. This is constantly being updated with new releases plus our revolving collection that is personally selected from our favourite boutique vineyards. We have prepared a selection of the best intimate cruising New Zealand and Vanuatu has to offer. Wherever we are cruising we always work hand in hand with the local environmentalists to ensure that our guests are receiving the absolute best experience and that our impact on the region is minimal. We are licensed by New Zealand’s Department of Conservation to explore well inside Marine National Parks. In Vanuatu we personally know each Chief in each of the villages we visit who share their local knowledge of their particular region. In return we provide a much welcomed business opportunity to support a micro tourism industry in each of the villages. We do trust you will enjoy the cruises we have in this brochure as much as we have enjoyed preparing them for your pleasure.

Shortly after departure we anchor off Bokissa Island for dinner. Day 2 Monday – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner After a relaxed start to the morning, perhaps a swim before an a la carte breakfast, then we head south cruising towards the small but beautiful Wala Island. This remote, densely vegetated island will excite anyone with an interest in anthropology. Cut off from its larger neighbour, Malekula, by a deep channel, Wala is remarkably untouched by modern culture – astounding, considering its welcoming inhabitants, wondrous environs, world-class snorkelling and fascinating ancient traditions. Visit local markets and stores to pick up handicrafts, then cool off with a swim or snorkel off one of the island’s beaches. This evening’s dinner, if you desire, can be served under the stars on the aft deck. Day 3 Tuesday – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Today is a very special day, and as we anchor off Ranon on Ambrym Island you will immediately notice what makes this island so unique. It has two active volcanoes, Mt Marum and Mt Benbow and is sometimes called Black Island because of its black beach sand and its “black magic”, steeped in history. Today, the locals have extended us a special invitation to experience the very secretive and mystical Rom spirit dance, 14
Day 4 Wednesday – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner This afternoon we anchor in the most amazing coral reef complex, the Maskelyne Islands. Participate in the very best in-water activities Vanuatu has to offer, including snorkelling and boat tours or the option of a fishing trip with our guides. This evening as the sun sets, join in the Captain’s Cocktails and Dinner while reflecting on this and the previous day’s amazing and unique experiences. Day 5 Thursday – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Cruising north we land at South West Bay on Malakula Island where we spend time with the locals and admire their handicrafts and artwork, which are some of the finest in Vanuatu. The island is famous for the complex ceremonies and rituals preserved by two of its remarkable tribes, the Big Nambas and the Small Nambas. The large lagoon behind the village is perfect for exploring the daily life in this village while the waters are full of coral and offer excellent kayak and snorkel opportunities. Day 6 Friday – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner We stay for most of the day here in South West Bay. The villagers are very friendly and welcome us to explore further into their lifestyles. Early in the afternoon we sail north, hugging the fascinating coastline. Dinner will be served underway and we will have an evening arrival at Malo Island where we will spend the last night. Day 7 Saturday – Breakfast A Continental Breakfast is served before you disembark at 9.00am. You’re free to use the facilities at Aore Island Resort before you’re transferred to the airport for your onward flight for guests flying today. We hope to see you onboard again on another of our cruises in Vanuatu or New Zealand.

The Bay of Islands is one of the most interesting and beautiful maritime environments on the planet, complete with 144 islands and many fascinating stories from New Zealand’s history. As a nautical playground, it was made famous over a century ago by legendary author and game fisherman, Zane Grey. Further back it is the cradle of European civilization in New Zealand. “Island Passage” arrives here in early January, at the start of

canapés and getting to know your fellow cruisers as the exquisite scenery slips by. Crew are always on hand to explain points of interest, or refill your glass. Your first night will be spent at picturesque Opunga Cove, a tranquil haven for cruising yachts and launches. The cove faces west, so you can sit and enjoy the sunset from your comfortable steamer chair on deck. Opunga, also known as Assassination Cove, has a fearsome history. French Explorer Marion Du Fresne and 26 of his crew were killed and eaten in this bay in the 1800s. Utu (revenge) was carried out as the crew ignored warnings and fished in a tapu (sacred) area. Thankfully the tapu was removed many years ago, so our fishing guides can take you to their favourite spots. Day 2 – MONDAY Today you’ll visit beautiful Motuarohia/Roberton Island, which you can explore in many different ways. Snorkel in the sheltered lagoon, kayak around the bay or hike up to the historic Maori Pa site. From the summit you’ll be rewarded by blockbuster views of 26
Late afternoon we’ll motor to Urupukapuka, the largest island in the bay. While anchored in gorgeous Paradise Bay (which is very aptly named), you’ll enjoy our chef’s gourmet barbecue with fresh seafood and produce from the local farmers’ markets. Day 3 – TUESDAY Today there’s plenty of time to discover Urupukapuka Island. You could hike around the island, which has historic pa sites and several fabulous beaches. Or explore the edges of the island by kayak, stopping for a picnic along the way. Fishing from one of our tenders is also an option – maybe you’ll catch dinner! If this all sounds too much, simply lounge around on board with a great book and regular deliveries of cold drinks and tasty nibbles. After lunch we’ll cruise through the narrows of the Albert Passage and along Cape Brett Peninsula towards Deep Water Cove. Watch for gannets and dolphins along the way. Deep Water Cove is a magical nature reserve complete with an idyllic waterfall framed by native forest. We hope you’ll get the chance to swim

Your first night aboard “Island Passage” is spent anchored at Waiheke Island with dinner served from 7pm. Day 2 Monday – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner We have an early start today with a full day of exploring at Waiheke Island. Your day could start with a refreshing ocean swim off the back of the ship or sleep in until it’s time for a sumptuous breakfast on deck (with champagne if you fancy) – whatever you need to begin the day in a great mood. In 2009 plans began to create a wildlife sanctuary, including the erection of a 2 metre high electrical rodent proof fence which surrounds the whole property. Kiwi birds have been released along with a number of exotic native birds. A new professional shop and driving range have also been completed in late 2010, bringing Wairakei International right back up to one of the very best golfing facilities in the country.

Day 9 Monday – Breakfast Today is a round of golf at The Kinloch Club – Jack Nicklaus’ first and only signature course in New Zealand. Only 15 minutes from Taupo. Travel and Leisure Golf Magazine rated The Kinloch Club the best new course in 2007 outside North America. The course takes advantage of the natural terrain created by the supervolcanic Taupo eruption 26,000 years ago, which deposited pumice across a wide area. This allowed Nicklaus to build a course with Scottish links characteristics

and greens. This combination comes together in beautiful surroundings producing one of Jack Nicklaus’ proudest Signature Courses. In 2011, Sir Bob Charles, the Kiwi British Open Champion golfer, rated Kinloch the No.1 golf course that he has played. Day 10 Tuesday – Breakfast Get ready for your round at Cape Kidnappers. This wonderfully dramatic course, set high on craggy cliffs some 140 metres (450 feet) above the sea, was designed by American Tom Doak of Renaissance Golf Design. Arguably one of the most spectacular sites in the world, the 6,533 metre par 71 course provides a firm and fast surface for seaside golf at its finest. In 2008 the Daily Telegraph of the UK, described Cape Kidnappers as the No.1 Golf Course in the World. At Cape Kidnappers players may one minute be hitting shots over the tops of tea trees and then the next across a deep gully or along the edge of a deep ravine. Holes aptly named the Pirate’s Plank and the Widow’s Walk perhaps give you some indication of just how exhilarating this course is, overlooking the Hawkes Bay. After the round you will be transferred to Napier airport by your Coach. For a short scenic flight up the centre of the island into Auckland at 6.50pm. We will happily arrange overnight accommodation in Auckland.
