Introduction
General Information The LV 227 applicator has been specially developed for the application of water‐based cold glue (adhesives). It is particularly suited to intermittent application of adhesive. A special seal allows the applicator to be used with adhesive pressure up to 42 bar. The knurled screw on the top section of the applicator is used to adjust the stem stroke during operation, enabling the adhesive quantity to be precisely adapted to the respective requirements. Air is applied to both sides of the working piston. A pressure spring causes a nozzle stem to close the nozzle even if the control air is switched off, e.g. during a system shutdown. The spring is equipped to operate with an adhesive pressure of up to approx. 42 bar. Control air is generally triggered by the flanged electrical solenoid valve with 24 VDC, 110 VAC or 240 VAC.
Functioning When the flanged electrical solenoid valve is opened by triggering it electrically, control air is applied via the solenoid valve to the air piston in the control module and the nozzle is opened by raising the nozzle stem. The electrical solenoid valve is closed with the aid of compressed air as well as with a closing spring.
Intermittent Adhesive Application Adhesive can be applied intermittently or continuously. The solenoid valve transmits the control pulses to the control module air piston. The control air pressure must be adapted to the applied switching frequency. Even five intermissions per second mean that this pressure must be 6 bar.

Installation
Connections Connecting the Solenoid Valve Connection with the included plug, which must be screwed securely into place. The solenoid valves are standardly designed for 24 VDC, 110 VAC or 240 VAC. The voltage indicated on the solenoid valve ID plate is decisive.
Connecting Control Air Connect control air of max. 6 bar to the control air fitting (B).
Connecting the Material Line Remove the protective cap from the material connection and connect the material hose from the pressure tank or adhesive pump (A).
Operating Instructions Adjusting the adhesive quantity / stem stroke The required adhesive quantity or application pattern is set by
Adjusting the output quantity (pressure container or adhesive pump) and Adjusting the stem stroke. Optimal adhesive application is achieved by adjusting alternately. The stem stroke adjustment (C) affects the maximum nozzle stem stroke and thus the adhesive quantity flowing out of the nozzle. Turn to the left to increase the adhesive quantity. Turn to the right to decrease the adhesive quantity. NOTE: To prevent the adhesive from hardening in the nozzle tip during extended machine standstill, the nozzle should be sealed airtight (e.g. with grease or Vaseline).

Maintenance
Disassembling an Applicator Disassembling in the Case of Solidified Adhesive Do not disassemble an applicator in which adhesive has solidified! This would most likely destroy sensitive components. We recommend immersing the adhesive gun, without the solenoid valve, in warm water for 1 - 2 days to soften the glue. Repeat the process several times, if necessary. If the applicator still cannot be disassembled, return it to us for repair.
Disassembling in the Case of Soft Adhesive NOTE: Interrupt the control air.
Detach the solenoid valve and material nozzle Purge the applicator through the material connection with warm water until the water flows out free of adhesive residue. NOTE: Disassemble the individual components with extreme caution!
Extract the sealing screw by turning to the left with a screwdriver that fits properly. NOTE: The sealing screw and body can be easily damaged if an unsuitable tool is used or the screw is turned in the wrong direction.
Check all parts for damage or wear after disassembling, particularly the sealing elements.
Cleaning and Assembling Applicators All of the parts must be carefully cleaned with water or a mild vinegar solution before assembling. NOTE: When a used material nozzle is reinstalled, it must first be thoroughly purged with cleaning agent to ensure that no material residue remains in the nozzle. The shaft of the nozzle stem must also be free of any residual particles. If the stems are not thoroughly cleaned, leakage will occur immediately. Do not use metallic or sharp tools or aids to install the O‐rings. Lubricate the O‐rings before installing. Use the lubricant supplied with the seal kit.

NOTE: 1 Max. system pressure. Safe maximum system pressure. NOTE: 2 Working material pressure. Minimum and maximum working material pressure at which proper operation is ensured (depends on the material viscosity). NOTE: 3 When the material viscosity is > 5000 cps, it is advisable to use an adhesive pump with continuous flow. ATTENTION: 4 Risk of damage! Do not use switching accelerators that shorten the solenoid valve switching times with a brief surge impulse. Trigger the solenoid valve only with voltage of 24 VDC, 110 VAC or 120 VAC. Higher voltage (e.g. voltage peaks) will damage the solenoid valves. NOTE: 5 The time is heavily dependent on the adhesive and only serves as a
guideline value. The minimum uptime is related to the bead length, the minimum downtime to the distance between two beads (the stitch).
