EDITORIAL The letter from Fred Mullany published in last month’s newsletter has prompted me to propose that we introduce a list of service providers for inclusion in future newsletters. That is to say a list of service providers in relation to classic cars who are willing and able to offer their skills and/or services to club members. This would include full-time businesses and part-time skilled individuals alike and not necessarily local to South Cape. So, whether you are reading this in Knysna, Gauteng, Cape Town, Durban or elsewhere and can offer a service to members please let me know and I will include the information in future editions. On a more serious note, and the kind of service providers we don’t want,- be aware of the demise of Motostars, the classic car dealers in Cape Town. A court case is pending because Motostars are alleged to have offered a Porsche for sale on consignment, sold it to a German buyer who is a “swallow” and has a house in Cape Town, “forgot” to pay the owner and the car was then repossessed by the owner leaving the buyer out of pocket hundreds of thousands of Rands. Rumour has it that there are several cases like this involving the same business – the moral of the story is, be very careful if you offer your car for sale on consignment through a used car dealer. More information has been provided by the Northern Centre with regard to the 2016 Indaba so if you are at all interested in the event please take time to update yourselves on the booking arrangements and accommodation options, - see “Future Events”

FROM THE HIGH CHAIR,  July 2014  I write this in haste, somewhat prematurely, and briefly as I leave for Turkey early tomorrow. It seems only yesterday that I was writing the previous edition. The Indaba shutting down exercise is now nearly complete, the certificates are at the printers and most of the thank yous have been said or written. There was a flood of complimentary correspondence from the attendees which was gratifying. Duncan is enjoying the icy wastes of Alaska and will not be back till the end of August; the financial ‘closure’ will wait for his return and we will then announce the total amount which the club will be donating to charity. The Club will now settle back into normality and we will continue an entertaining programme of events for

your enjoyment. Big on the list is the tour to the Eastern Cape and you will have seen Fred’s notice about this. It promises to be an interesting trip and I hope that you will fill the available places. I shall be revelling in the warmth of Istanbul and a Greek island attending the wedding of my older son and will think of you shivering on your way to Zucchini’s for breakfast – enjoy it and enjoy the MG drive! Bruce

Silverton radiators I had a letter from Fred Mullany (which I have contrived to accidentally delete, sorry Fred ! ) Fred received excellent service from Silverton and wanted to record the fact for the benefit of members who may have radiator or cooling problems in the future. Fred is quoted as saying that they “went beyond the extra mile” to solve the problems with his MGA, for which he is extremely grateful. Silverton are in Uil street, 1st left off Vigilance Drive , Knysna Industria. IRISH OBSERVATIONS – Paddy says to Mick, "Christmas is on Friday this year". Mick said, "Let's hope it's not the 13th then." My mate Paddy just hired an Eastern European cleaner, took her 15 hours to hoover the house. Turns out she was a Slovak. ITALIAN OBSERVATIONS "The Ferrari F1 team fired their entire pit crew yesterday." This announcement followed Ferrari's decision to partner the SA government's job creation scheme and employ some Katlehong youngsters. The decision to hire them was brought about by a recent documentary on how unemployed youths from the township were able to remove the front spoiler and a set of wheels in less than 6 seconds without proper

equipment, whereas Ferrari's existing crew could only do it in 8 seconds with millions of dollars worth of hitech equipment. It was thought to be an excellent, bold move by the Ferrari management team as most races are won and lost in the pits, thus giving Ferrari an advantage over every other team. However, Ferrari got more than they bargained for. At the crew's first practice session, not only was the pit crew able to change all four wheels in under 6 seconds but, within 12 seconds, they had re-sprayed, rebadged and sold the car to the Mclaren team for 8 cases of Black Label, a bag of weed and some photos of Lewis Hamilton's chick in the shower.
