Chumash Casino
The Chumash Casino is located in Santa Ynez, California which is 86 miles north of Ventura. It has a wide selection of 2,000 slots and video machines, from pennies to $100 denominations. It also has over 45 table games including blackjack, Mystery Card Roulette, EZ Baccarat, Ultimate Texas Hold ‘em, Spanish 21, Three and Four Card Poker. Donna was excited to be there. Henry’s favorite game was the $1 slot machine. John and Dorothy tried their luck at the blackjack table. David and Kathy played the slot machine. We had a great day at the Chumash Casino! Managers Doing Fun Activities With Residents
The Management team loves doing fun activities with the residents. The weather is mild pretty much year round in Ventura, offering a comfortable climate with an added dose of sunshine that’s perfect for outings around the city. Brandy took the residents to Ventura Harbor and Latitudes Fine Art Gallery. They had lunch at Andria’s Seafood and Thai food at the Rice. Yessenia played bowling with residents. They were quite competitive when it comes to sports! Residents enjoyed the woodwork making race car with Tino! Karen created greeting carts with them with many lovely ideas and messages for their loved ones! Harmony and Paz joined Chef Michael to make chocolate bark and peanut butter cookies. Everyone decorated their favorite chocolate bark with many delicious toppings like nuts, sheered coconut, dried fruit, Yaya played bowling with residents. Residents made delicious chocolate and more chocolate bars with Chef Michael and Paz. chips — chocolate chips on chocolate bark! The peanut butter cookies tasted amazing! It was a great snack for all! We can’t wait for another sweet surprise from Chef Michael! Memory Care: Professional Photographer and Diver, Patti Whitfield Takes Us Under the Sea Patti loved the mysterious underwater world. Patti traveled around the world diving in dangerous waters. Together with her dearest family, Debbie and Andre they captured beautiful life forms of sea. Patti’s amazing photos have been published in National Geographic, diver, and travel magazines. Phew, no shark encounters. Patti, thank you for sharing a spectacular time of your life.

Memory Care: Surf’s Up
DIY Custom surfboards! We started with foam poster boards cut into surf boards shapes. Some used stencils while others did free hand artistry for their designs. The unit was wall to wall in custom surf boards. We invited family members to create their own. It was a fun and awesome project!

Writing Is Exciting
My name is Muffi — I am a “newbie” at The Palms. I encourage you to write — keep a journal. When a memory flashes, jot it down. How did you come to California? (Perhaps you were born here.) Write it! How did you get to Ventura? or The Palms? Your story has begun. Write about your favorite childhood toy or funny things your kids said or did or travels, etc. Then Kathy, our Activities Director and I, will show you how to make a small booklet to present to your family as a year-end holiday gift. You will now have the title — “Author.” Please keep me informed of your progress ... writing is exciting! It improves our brain, makes us feel accomplished and impresses our kin. Think about entering your writing in the The Ventura County Fair in 2017. Your new pen pal, Muffi Ehrlich.
