ITINERARY DAY 1: ARRIVE IN CHRISTCHURCH Kia Ora and welcome to New Zealand. On arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in central Christchurch close to Hagley Park, the largest of the many parks in this "Garden City". The rest of your day is at leisure to explore the city. Optional activities include punting on the River Avon, floating gently along its tree-lined banks, riding the tramway through the inner city or catching the gondola cable car up the Port Hills for panoramic views of Lyttelton Harbour, the Alps and plains.

DAY 2: CHRISTCHURCH - AKAUNUI - MT COOK Leaving Christchurch, enjoy a special lunch at Akaunui Farm homestead before continuing your journey with sweeping vistas of tussock lands and mountains to the Mackenzie Country of Lake Tekapo and the famous Aoraki/Mt Cook.

DAY 3: MT COOK - QUEENSTOWN We retrace our steps down the Mackenzie Basin to the Lindis Pass, Kawarau Gorge into Queenstown.

DAY 4: MILFORD SOUND DAY EXCURSION Travel alongside Lake Wakatipu to the small lakeside town of Te Anau and onto the majestic Milford Sound deep in the heart of Fiordland National Park. The Milford Road is a panorama of high mountains and deep valleys studded with glaciers, waterfalls and mirror lakes. On arrival at Milford Sound enjoy a cruise out in the fiord before returning back to Queenstown with a scenic flight over the Southern Alps and Lake Wakatipu.

DAY 5: QUEENSTOWN Queenstown is the place to complete your adventure 'to do' list: Skydiving, bungy jumping, jetboating, canyon swinging, whitewater rafting, parapenting, heliskiing...Home to the world's first commercial jet boating, bungy jump and river surfing, there's something in the air. Queenstown's reputation as the world's favourite adrenaline destination is well deserved. From the mild to the wild you'll find your adventure threshold here. The expansive natural physical environment offers superb air, water and land based activities. Go walking, sailing, hiking, climbing, fishing, cycling, golfing, off-roading, skiing or mountain biking.

DAY 6: QUEENSTOWN - WANAKA Leaving the Adventure Capital, explore the historic gold-mining town of Arrowtown before traveling over the famous Crown Range via Cardrona to Wanaka were you will enjoy a sumptuous lunch at a private Wanaka homestead, followed by an overnight stay situated by the lakeside.

DAY 7: WANAKA - HAAST PASS - FRANZ JOSEF Drive beside Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka and into the pristine mountain and river scenery of the Haast Pass in Mt Aspiring National Park. Leaving the mountains, the road winds along the edge of the river to Haast and into the lush rainforest of Westland World Heritage Park before making our final stop at the famous Franz Josef Glacier.

DAY 8: FRANZ JOSEF We drive out to the coast to the tiny settlement of Okarito nestled between the Tasman Sea and Okarito Lagoon. Depending on your preference select a gentle kayak or cruise on the shallow waters of the lagoon. The lagoon is a feeding ground of the rare white heron (kotuku) which breeds in the nearby Waitangi Roto Nature Reserve. Enjoy the tranquility of this remote World Heritage Park. There's time for optional activities such as a helihike on the glacier or a flight over the Alps to Aoraki/Mt Cook and land on a glacier; or kick back and soak in hot pools fed by pure glacier water.

DAY 9: FRANZ JOSEF - PUNAKAIKI Leaving Franz Josef, travel north passing mirror lakes, boulder-laden rivers and the Sourhern Alps to Punakaiki, famous for the Pancake Rocks & Blowholes.

DAY 10: PUNAKAIKI - CHRISTCHURCH Retracing our steps down the coast we drive up the Otira Gorge through towering mountains to Arthur’s Pass National Park. At the summit we stop at the lookout for the views and to watch the mischievous antics of the keas (alpine parrots) before reaching your Christchurch accommodation late afternoon.

DAY 11: DEPART CHRISTCHURCH Enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning. You will be picked up from your hotel for a transfer to the airport for your flight home after a memorable New Zealand holiday with MoaTrek.
